This classic starts off slow but then I found myself listening until 1:30am to see what would happen ๐Ÿคฃ I really enjoyed it and I‘m happy it was on my poster so that I could experience the islands mysteries ๐Ÿฅฐ

I've seen the movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. While the movie was fun and adventurous, the book was definitely better. It's amazing to be so wrapped up in the lives of the characters while being given facts of the flora, fauna , and even making gunpowder alternatives. This is a book of the triumph of the human soul in its desire to become the master of its environment. Well with thtoe time to read.

This might have been fun if it weren‘t for the weird semi-supernatural interference of Captain Nemo and, uh, the racism. Verne would get points for including a Black character but he loses them all for making that character a formerly enslaved man who is obsessively loyal to the master who freed him. ๐Ÿคข Anyway, the plot is about some men arriving on an uncharted island and having an unrealistic degree of success colonizing it.

A so-so that would have been a DNF if I were reading a book. As an audiobook it was OK. Good background noise I didn't have to pay close attention to while cleaning.

The engineer discussing extreme climate change in a book published during the 19th century is a little discomforting. Definitely can't be waved off as "things were different then."

This is another #audiobook that I recently finished, and acquired from #librivox. I really like their philosophy of providing public domain books to people in order to encourage a wider spread reading of literature and nonfiction.
There is not much that I can say positively about this book. It was long and not very interesting. Reminded me of a less enjoyable Robinson Crusoe. In fact, you‘re better off reading that book. Leave this one alone.
