Worlds of Ink and Shadow
Worlds of Ink and Shadow: A Novel of the Bront s | Lena Coakley
38 posts | 41 read | 61 to read
Charlotte, Branwell, Emily, and Anne. The Bront siblings find escape from their constrained lives via their rich imaginations. The glittering world of Verdopolis and the romantic and melancholy world of Gondal literallycome to life under their pens, offering the sort of romance and intrigue missing from their isolated parsonage home. But at what price? As Branwell begins to slip into madness and the sisters feel their real lives slipping away, they must weigh the cost of their powerful imaginations, even as the characters they have created the brooding Rogue and dashing Duke of Zamorna refuse to let them go. Gorgeously written and based on the Bront s juvenilia, Worlds of Ink and Shadow brings to life one of history s most celebrated literary families in a thrilling, suspenseful fantasy.

I‘ve got five days off this week! Hoping to get some reading done.

I really want to either finish or put aside my two current reads this week. I also need to get started on “The Queen of Nothing,” since it‘s due back in a week!

I‘m working six days this week (including a Sunday shift I had today) and I‘m somehow in the middle of reading three books! So I‘m going to keep my goals simple this week:

Continue to make progress in my current reads.

Finish at least one current read.

Start on “The Queen of Nothing.”

@Cinfhen

Cinfhen A 6 day work week is rough! Hope you get some quality down time ❤️ 5y

It was a really cool concept about the author of my favorite book, but for some reason I found this book extremely hard to get through

My reading goal this year started with a 16 book reading list, albeit I‘ve clearly gotten a bit distracted and added new finds to that list causing my goal to morph. I‘m happy to say that I started book 31 of 52 for the year earlier today. It‘s kind of interesting reading a story about the author of my favorite book #book31 #yearofbooks #2018 #bookworm #feedyoursoul #charlottebronte

This #historicalfantasyfiction is inspired by the true characters of the #Brontë siblings, Charlotte, Branwell, Emily & Anne. They acquired the abilities to physically crossover to other invented worlds. Truth be told I was skeptical about this book due to the below average ratings, but boy was I glad to be wrong! This book is rich with imaginations and the intriguing suspenseful plot will get readers hook right from the beginning! A must read! ❤

I loved the concept of this book, and thought it was excellently thought out and wonderfully crafted. The Brontë siblings actually travelling to the imaginary worlds they created? Love it! I felt that at times the imaginary worlds came across a little immature and not as flushed out as I would have preferred. That said, still a delightful cute read.

It was okay... I love Wuthering Heights with all my heart so I loved Emily as a character. Mostly I was bored. I love all the Bronte sisters writings but I didn't get connected to their writing inside this book. The concept was fun, getting to travel to the stories you create, but it just didn't capture me. The ending was just eh... If you like historical fiction with magic you'll probably like this.

#BookishMail from @craftshley and I am in LOVE with these dinosaur #BookSleeves 😍And that orchid one really does match this book so perfectly! It fits really well inside, and inside the dinosaur ones are hardbacks of Allegiant and The Raven King. She has code INSTASLEEVES for 10% off and she just added some new bookish prints ❤️

BooksTeasAndBookishThings @KassKho it is one I had on my TBR at the top, but then it kept getting buried, and I forgot about it until I remembered seeing her post with it and a sleeve like this. I thought it would be great motivation to read with a Sleeve this perfect for it 😍 8y

59 books this year. It's a personal record for me. so many great books and I could only narrow it down to 15 of my most favorite. A few like Jackaby and A Darker Shade of Magic I love the whole series. Fredrick Backman Needs to have a warning on his books that they will make you feel everything and Cry so hard. Super nice man his was my first ever author signing. So many amazing books in 2016. I can't wait for the books of 2017!!

Having trouble getting into this... I wonder if part of it is I haven't read anything from the Bronte siblings?

StaceyKondla I wanted to love it, but I found it turned into too much of a fantasy and not enough brooding Bronte-ness, if that makes sense. I love fantasy, but wanted family politics and foggy moores and moodiness 8y

I love this page! Coakley describes how the Bronte family's father would have the kids place on masks in order to lower anxiety in approaching him to talk openly. They were so intimidated by their father they needed alter egos

Coakley received a grant to research the Bronte family history - a history filled with tragedy, loss and wonder. Coakley weaves a story which answers the question, "why did the Bronte children die prematurely?" Her explanation is both fantastic and menacing. This is fantasy story set against history

I am new to Litsy so I want to post a few old pictures of previous boxes. I will post what I can find and all new ones. This is the January Magic themed box from @owlcrate !!!

pageturnersnook I absolutely love the Harry Potter figurine - where is that from? 9y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings Also from OwlCrate. They had a lot of requests to feature a Pop figure and the creators of the subscription box love HP, so they went with HP Pop figures to start. 9y

BooksTeasAndBookishThings Every month! Always a letter from the author and I think they have even had a few signed bookplates for the book that month. 9y

BooksTeasAndBookishThings I wanted Snape SO badly! I actually bought two friends that box and they both got Snape! I am so jealous of, but also very happy for them. ;) I love all 4 of my subscriptions, but I have gotten more OwlCrate boxes than the rest. They were my first and Bookish Box VERY shortly after. 9y
Zakia Wow... What is owlcrate? I'm so intrigued by the goody box! 9y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Zakia every month is a new theme and they send a new book, a letter from that author and bookish goodies around that theme. This month is Steampunk. =) it is one of my 4 subscriptions and I LOVE it!! 9y
bookishchelle @Books, Tea, And Bookish Things I thought about subscribing to bookish box, but decided to wait. I think the shipping to Canada was too high for me. 9y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @bookishchelle Yeah, I have heard that for USPS the shipping cost to Canada is really high... I have no idea why. =/ 9y

This book was pretty good. I absolutely love Charlotte Brontë so when I saw this was about her and her siblings I had to read it. I loved hearing their stories. It's important to read the authors afterword because it explains the characters and where she got her inspiration.
