Am I allowed to use one cover for four #Pantone2026 colours? @Lauredhel

Yes, I know, it‘s a classic children‘s book, everyone adores it… and yes, the story‘s fun, the characterisation is great… but… I couldn‘t settle into the crossover between human and animal world. How big is the toad that he can pretend to be a human?!

julieclair This is my #FictionalTraveler choice, too. But I‘m only a couple of chapters in. I just assumed I would love this book, and I bet you did, too. So now I‘m interested to see what I think once I‘m finished! 5d

Lucy arrives in Oxford for a visit with her beloved grandmother, only to find that the old woman has died and left her knitting shop to her. But Lucy knows nothing about running a business and can‘t knit! Within a few days, she learns that there‘s a vampire knitting club at the shop, her grandmother didn‘t die of natural causes, a family secret, and she‘s now in danger. Really enjoyed this one!

Beautiful writing, without any sensationalism or exaggeration, telling what it was like to live through 1943 & 44 in Italy, first far enough from the fighting to be considered a safe place to evacuate children, then literally the front lines. Fleeing at a moments notice, on foot, with 4 infants, 23 children under 10, and various adults. Dealing with partisans, fascists and Germans, all armed, all wanting to take whatever food, clothes etc.

Lcsmcat And thought it all she works on saving lives, while the fate of her extended family is unknown. Highly recommended. #letterW #litsyatoz @Texreader 11mo

“The connections between and among women are the most feared, the most problematic, and the most potentially transforming force on the planet” Adrienne Rich
This novel weaves together the stories of three women of the same bloodline: a 17th century witch trial; a young girl growing up during the war, kept closeted in her home by her father; and an abusive relationship in 2019. It‘s often a harrowing tale but I felt invested in the characters.

I think this was the best in the series yet—aspects of Agatha Christie-esque mysteries are thrown into this one. Eve, Roarke, and thousands in the audience witness a murder on stage. But, it‘s not as clear cut as it seems. Eve also continues to battle her last, and elements of the investigation do not help. I love to see the characters developing! #InDeathLongReadalong

2.25/4 ⭐️ (the lower end between ok and good)

Started with the audiobook but finished up with the kindle edition. Lord Wimsey is one to run on. What? The antisemitism and racial slurs make it hard to say I liked the book, but it I did enjoy the mystery and the wrap up. I might even give more Lord Wimsey books a try. I‘m glad this author was chosen for #authoramonth.

tpixie I‘m about 16% in on my kindle. I agree, it‘s very anti- Semitic, which makes it difficult to read. Sadly, I am reminded of the antisemitism of Sally Rooney (Intermezzo), Percival Everett (James) & other authors who have recommended banning Jewish books & authors & have refused to have their books translated into Hebrew or sent to Israel. My heart goes out to both Jews & Palestinians. I am against banning books of all kind for any reason. 12mo

I‘m giving up on the audiobook. The narrator is very high-pitched and her accent is such that I often cannot understand her. So I slow her down and heavens that‘s just dreadful. So I‘m switching to the ebook. But Lord Wimsey is getting on my nerves with his long-winded irrelevant speeches and odd ways of speaking. “What?” I also detect a strongwhiff of anti-semitism. I‘ll make it to the end; it‘s short but not making a good start of it. ⬇️

Texreader And I forgot, Wimsey breaks out in song periodically!! And so does the narrator. I ordinarily like some musical accompaniment but this is just too much!! 12mo
Sace The narrator in my audiobook is good. It feels a bit like an exaggerated David Niven. Exaggerated 20s posh accent I guess. Kinda funny…until you get to any talk of Levy. Strong whiff indeed. 12mo
