I‘ve read Angelou‘s prose, I‘ve listened to her speak, but Still I Rise is the only poem of hers I‘ve read until today! I'm spending some time this year working on myself, making some healthy habits and improving my overall Self, using #weightwatchers to do that. Oprah has been doing a weekly video series on #ww that I absolutely adore, and this week's video is on The Power of Words. She showed us in the video that Maya Angelou left all of her personal books to Oprah in her will. It was a nice reminder to seek out some more diverse reads this week. #oprah

I was independent & feisty so feminism came naturally to me. I loved escaping w/stories about strong women & girls confronting obstacles. Maya Angelou & The Handmaid's Tale were formative for me. They made me strident, gave me strength, & likely saved my life.
I still love reading about strong female protagonists & love channeling it into empathy & advocacy. xx Sarah
Here's one of my reading companions who hates to be cold and is typically found in one of these two positions. We rescued her the week Maya Angelou died, so it was only natural that we named her Maya. Her expression often says, "Phenomenal Woman, that's me." ? #readingcompanions #photoadaynov16

My son has been struggling this year in his current school. With much fear and trembling I have brought him to a new school for a visit today. It is full of kindness.
