I find that some books are longer then necessary this is one of them. This is not a negative it is just longer than it needs to be (in my opinion).I enjoyed the read and found it interesting 🧐 but like Brandon Sanderson books (don‘t hate me) it could have had more of an impact if it got to the point sooner… Again I did enjoy the read though

When I first read this (in 2017) I liked it but not enough that I bought the second and third books as soon as they came out—that only happened this weekend after I started rereading the tagged book. I liked this story of an island where the wearing of jade imbues some people with special powers (more or less) a bit more the second time around and I look forward to seeing where Lee takes the story—most reviewers say the third book is the best!

Flew back home and took a short break from ‘The Faithful and the Fallen‘ to read Jade City. Feels like the Godfather tune played on a Chinese harp. Enjoying it so far.
A super cool book with an awesome underworld crime world building to an upcoming war. With some awesome characters and commentary of culture and the struggle between excepting and new,or holding onto the old way.
This was a great ride and definitely recommend reading it

My Amazon book haul on top and my thrift book haul on the bottom! Pretty good stack if I do say so myself! Most excited for Pretty Girls, Jade City, and The Scholomance trilogy! 😁

A soft pick, really.
It took me 8 days to finish it but not because I was not enjoying it. Well, I didn‘t at first.
I found the world-building to be well done, although it's a whole new world for me. It took me a few chapters before I finally understood the jargon.
I'm not overly excited to continue reading the rest, but I am still intrigued.
Two strong-minded women in a man's world, if they do not quickly become allies, are destined to be incurable rivals.

More or less 10 hours. Aight, no biggie.
(I lie. It is, in fact, a biggie.)
FONDA LEE IS IN MY BOOTH AND WANTS TO TALK ABOUT US DOING COVERS FOR HER BOOKS

This #book has been in my library for ages!!
But I finally got around to it because #netgalley. And it's so good?! Or like 4.5 good. I felt like it was losing steam towards the end. Like, there was a lot going on but idk, I was feeling frustrated because of everything that was going on. It's not a fun read 🥹 or at least, it wasn't anymore after a certain point 😔 now I'm in pain 😭 I'm curious to see what happens next but also, am I ready??
Such a good book. This is a re-read so I can read the rest of the trilogy
Great world-building, well-drawn characters and a plot that has twists and turns galore.
Jade is a magical item in this world, giving those who can wear it, powers of perception and strength. But it only exists on one small island. Everyone wants it.
Moving on to next in the series.

My goal for the week is to read Fonda Lee's Green Bone Saga. I've read book one, but will re-read and plan to go on.

#UnpopularOpinion
This reads like written by an OWM. I know it's not, but that's what it feels to me. Few female characters. Slow pace. Several Deus Ex Machina situations in favour of one character.
Will not continue the series.

July reading wrap-up! I finished 11 books; ratings were overall lower than most months for me.
🥇Jade City
🥈The Spanish Love Deception
🥉Legends & Lattes
Enjoyed this book, although it took me 2 months to get through it. I appreciate the focus point veing the Kauls as a family, rather than a few main characters, and the issues arising from familial ties and expectations. I wish the intrigue and action had picked up sooner, but I enjoyed what the book set up for the sequel, and I want to see how many more plot points I can predict!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! 💚🐉🍀 Here are some dragons and a stack of green books! 😁 #dragonsoflitsy

Woah this book was so good! Exciting, heart-wrenching, nail bitting, and such cool world building. I can‘t wait to read the next book, anyone who likes organized crime/family drama or fascinating characters you should read this book.

This was an excellent, original epic start to a speculative series. Part fantasy, part family drama, it is truly original and I look forward to continuing this series. The magic system is very cool and the writing is top notch. The only reason I didn‘t give it 5 stars was due to the audiobook losing my attention at a few moments. 4.5⭐️

I've been reading a lot of fantasy lately, which is nice. I used to read scifi/fantasy exclusively, but since I've expanded my reading, I find myself reading less and less of it. This year I decided to fix that. Every time I read one, I'm reminded why this is my favorite genre. See below for my ratings and very brief thoughts on each title 👇
Great writing, but a little too character driven for me. I definitely respect this book and understand why it is loved by many. However, I was expecting a lot of action, and this just didn‘t deliver. I still plan on picking up the second book at some point in hopes that the title Jade WAR means more external than internal conflict.

It‘s been a loooong time since I‘ve read an Adult Fantasy book, and boy am I out of practice! 😅 The audiobook is like 19 hours long (😫) so it took me a while to get through, but it‘s definitely an interesting story. Full of family drama, clan power struggles, political intrigue, and a fair amount of violence. If that sounds like your thing, check it out!

This rainy weather makes me want to curl up, read, and never leave the house again!!!

Very interesting so far!! Excited to uncover more of this well built world.

TBR 2021

So third time was the charm and I managed to finally finish this one. It was very much a slow burn for me at first and I didn't really get into it for a while but once I was in I read it straight through. I've never really consumed many gangster type stories so the fact that this is all about honorable gangs was kind of a new thing for me. The story was left in an interesting place but I'm not ready to read more.

This week I finished a major chunkster and read the new Murderbot like three times lol I've also made a dent in Jade City so third times the charm for that one
#WeeklyForecast
My goal this week is to finish Jade City and then get started on what the new BookSpin picks are.

Hoping third time‘s the charm with this one. The first two times I got like three chapters in and then wandered off to something else. I‘m hoping the fact this is my #bookspin #doublespin will motivate me to stay the course.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good read. The author really gets us to know the characters. This is about rival gangs or mafias in a fictional place. I was invested in the outcome. It wrapped up nicely so that I may or may not read the rest of the series.

Couldn't decide what to pick up next from my TBR so had friends vote and this was the winner so today's read

😱 oh my goodness! What a stack Orbit is giving away this month!

I chose this book as a 2nd title to try in the grimdark sub-genre. It‘s described as a kung-fu fantasy that‘s heavily influenced by The Godfather series. Which sounds awesome. And though I enjoyed the author‘s world-building and magic concept, after 2 hours of listening I realized I didn‘t care about any of the characters. This book is action-driven, while my favorite things to read focus on character development.

🎧 Audible has been having a 2-for-1 sale that ends tonight ... I‘ve wanted to avoid it was down to 3 credits. Well yes I bought 3 new credits recently as I pre-ordered The Trouble With Peace. I love grim dark and A Little Hatred was my favorite book by Joe Abercrombie to date. Well I loved The Last Wish (a Witcher book that follows the entire first season of the tv series) & have heard loads of goodness about Jade City. So we shall see! 🖤😁

Jade City is coming to television! Peacock is developing a series based on Jade Lee‘s series. More info at the link below.

3.5 out of 5 🌟 I fell in love with the world building that focuses in Godfather/Kungfu/Samurai with a touch of magic gained from Jade stone to enhance physical and perceptions prowess.
What I love most in Jade City is how much each characters are evolving throughout the book. I rarely find a book, where I admire almost all the characters in it but Jade City surely changed that.

The 4th was great - until baby mama drama started. I‘m so done with people; I‘m emotionally drained. So are the kitties because we traumatized them with fireworks in the backyard; now we‘re all relaxing in bed while mama reads. #sendhelp #thiswomanisanightmare #anxietyonhigh #peoplesuck #booksandcatsarebetter

I definitely struggled a little bit at the beginning, it was a slow start but towards the middle it really picked up and I was enjoying it a lot more. Great pick @Shadowfat this'll be coming back to you tomorrow 😊

I started reading this last night after making a list of fantasy novels by Asian authors to choose from for my book club. Holy crap, where has this been all my life? How have I not picked it up yet?
