“Hatcher grinned. ‘Just because I‘m mad doesn‘t mean I‘m not right. And you were mad not so long ago yourself.‘”

Disappointing. I was enthralled with The Mermaid by Henry. But I just do not need graphic rape scenes that feel like they‘re only there to say “look how dark and gritty this world is.”
Henry‘s writing is great, so I might pick up something else by her later. After throughly checking trigger warnings.
After a full day headache yesterday, self care Sunday is all about household chores and audiobooks. So far this is… pretty much what you‘d expect. #bookwitharabbitonthecover #pop23
I didn't much care for the last Christina Henry book I read, but this one sounded so interesting I had to give it a chance, and I'm happy I did. Great story (so far anyway lol)
4.9⭐️ Alice‘s adventure in wonderland take the dark turn in this story. There is magic and murder and mayhem and I definitely suggest checking trigger warnings. This is definitely not your normal fairytale, and it gives life to characters that are such gruesome nasty people that you love to hate. I was not the biggest fan of Alice during the first part of this book, but by the end she is a bad ass, though Hatcher is my favorite Character.

This book is fantastic. The writing, the characters, the absolutely unsettling setting all work wonderfully well. Be warned, it‘s also not for the faint of heart. There are some deeply dark and disturbing moments throughout. Do a little research before you decide to pick it up yourself. And if you do decide to accompany Alice down the rabbit hole once again, know it‘s well worth it.
Absolutely fantastic book! A dark re-telling of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. Brilliantly told. Dark, twisty and very creative. Some content warning! Alice escapes the asylum with Hatcher, where she has been for many years. To seek revenge. To find the rabbit and to regain her memory.
1. I am unashamedly addicted to fairy tales & have been these 42 years or more.
2. I love getting pulled in to a story.
So - having said that - Alice us not for the faint of heart. It‘s gory, but the author doesn‘t dwell on description. In fact, the violence is disturbingly matter-of-fact. So reader be warned - this story has plenty of triggers (violence against women especially, but also generally). My first by the author, not my last.

Can you think of another book begining with A? @TheWolfbehindTheEyes @CymbaX13 @DaveGreen7777
Dark and a little bit twisted, this is one of my favorite Alice in Wonderland retellings.

After being very disappointed by my last read, I'll call it quits on page two. Not in the mood for something that seems so promisingly depressing
Bingo... 🙄 #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
⭐⭐⭐ I went from loving this to liking it. I've never enjoyed the beginning of a book more than the ending half till I read this! I'm just at a loss for words because it went from being so dark to a super happy ending and just kinda has me wondering why I'm bothered by that?? Haha! Honestly I feel like I always want books I read to be written a certain way and they always fall a little short! I wanted a darker theme from this throughout!
Does anyone else ever get to the last couple of chapters and feel like "NO, there is too much going on and not enough pages left?" I swear I've been feeling this a lot lately.
I'm at the halfway mark & loving it! ❤
I'd probably be done by now but life is very busy and I am in no rush these days! ⭐
Calling it a night 🌙 gonna read a little and enjoy a frozen hot chocolate. Goodnight Listy!!
Just finished Chapter 1 & I am absolutely hooked. Christina Henry's writing style is just beautiful to me. It's dark yet wonderful!
My Husband gave me the morning off to relax & took all 3 boys out! So I am gonna cuddle up in bed with my coffee and read. Very very excited to dive into this tagged book. I received it for Christmas and have nooo idea what to expect but I love a good Alice in Wonderland retelling. Has anyone read it? What did you think about it??
“There was comfort in ignorance, in thinking the world a certain way and not knowing any different.”
I finished this audio in an altered state of consciousness so that may have something to do with my highly rated recommendation.
Not for kids, not for many adults either. Thing is Alice in Wonderland is pretty creepy in its natural state, so the author here is just giving it a harder tweak.
If you‘re in the mood do check it out, but be mindful of potential triggers.
🐱👤 Thrillers, esp. psychological thrillers, are my faves. But I will read all of these genres as long as they are not too gory or vulgar.
🐱👤 Tagged. Read this one in January and found some of the characters REAL scary.

Part of my Alice in Wonderland retelling challenge. This is DARK I mean not for the faint of heart dark. Touched on abuse, mental illness…but I appreciate it for the risk the author took with her characters and her take on with this well known fairytale.
This book was dark, gritty and violent, with lots of mentions of sexual abuse, so just beware. The atmosphere of the book was like teetering on the edge of madness, and the setting was well developed. I liked the references to Alice in Wonderland. I enjoyed the plot and mystery and action, though the ending wasn't drawn out long enough and was slightly anti climatic, I'm curious to know what happens on the next quest.
I think this isn't a series for me. I found it really dark, disturbing and a lot of violence to women.
I prefer the bunnies on my bookmark to "The Rabbit" in this Dark Fantasy rethinking of Alice's adventures.
It's Alice, but there's no Wonderland in sight.
For me, there was too much gratuitous (mostly sexual) violence, for this to be an enjoyable romp. The lighthearted, YA-style writing jarred with the constant horror of the content.
It was OK, but I won't be rushing out to read the follow up.
⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars
Wow. This book took this tale to a dark but somehow more realistic place and I loved it. 🪓🐛🐇👧
Heads up, it is graphic and not for everyone. Definitely check the Goodreads reviews for CWs if needed because the cover and the innocent nature of the Alice you think you know do not begin to represent the horrors you will find inside this book.
Side note this was not on my TBR but Lost Boy was so good I had to read this one too!

This is the tracker I made for the challenge. I love how it came out and can't wait to fill it in each month. 😍
For January I read Alice & Red Queen by Christina Henry. I have Unbirthday by Liz Braswell on hold at the library so I'm going to just add it once it's finally available.
Happy Reading everyone 😃

This retelling is not for the faint of heart. It's dark and gritty and perfectly done. I absolutely loved it.
Alice wakes up in an asylum, and at first the reader has no clue why she's there. The story is fast paced and full of action from start to finish. And Alice is a badass!
Trigger warnings: rape, abuse to children and women.
"You're only a mouse if you let them make you one"
This was a dark and violent twist on Alice in Wonderland, I really enjoyed it. Will be picking up the follow up book so I can read it this month for the #FairytaleReadingChallenge #AliceInWonderland @Charityann
🎧 😐 Alice in Wonderland wakes up in an asylum with no memory. This book reminds me of Return to Oz but SO much darker!! After nearly a decade Alice escapes from the asylum with the prisoner/patient in the cell next door to defeat the creature Jabberwock. Many characters from the books show up in utterly twisted ways like the characters who portray the underbelly of the old city (mob bosses). There‘s magic. Definitely adult. ⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5
This counts as "animal on cover - real or imaginary", right? ?
#OutstandingOctober
A darker, fantastical twist on the original. One of the best retellings I‘ve read! Content warning for physical and sexual abuse and violence.
This one sat in my TBR pile for awhile but I finally finished it. As an Alice in Wonderland fan I wanted to like this but it wasn‘t great. I like dark and twisty fantasy but this one fell flat for me in so many areas and the dialogue, at times, felt forced. I‘m beginning to question whether I‘ll read the Red Queen which is also sitting in my TBR pile. Might have to wait awhile before picking that one up.
well, i was not expecting that. sexual abuse warning for those who don't stomach that sort of thing. although the revenge was satisfying, the story was overall bleak. not recommended for those who are looking for a dark whimsical retelling, this is a disturbing horror story. i understand those who don't like Christina Henry's books but i'm hooked, they never turn out the way i expect and i love that. pretty twisted.
