Fascinating look at the downfall of Theranos and its fraudulent founder Elizabeth Holmes 💉 🩸🧪

An astonishing story. I‘d heard a little bit about Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes, but I didn‘t know the full story. The level of deception and fraud that was committed is truly horrifying.
Totally engrossing. Fascinating characters. Good pace for nonfiction. Makes me wanna watch the series on it.
John Carreyrou is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter at the Wall Street Journal.
The book chronicles the rise and fall of “Theranos“ and its founder Elizabeth Holmes. A Biotech startup based in Silicon Valley was once the talk of the town for its revolutionary idea to transform the healthcare industry.
I‘m not the least bit sympathetic having read this book (one of the best books in my opinion). In fact, just 11 years? A man died and many more could have died thanks to her fraud.

I couldn't believe that a true crime novel not involving murders or missing persons could be so absolutely riveting. I found it especially interesting since I've been working at a small tech company for over 20 years, and this book is essentially a guide on how NOT to run a tech business!

Very late to the table on this one but…🤯🤬
I‘ve generally been fairly uninformed about the goings-on in Silicon Valley but have read a couple of books about how things go there and, just, wow!
Jaw dropped repeatedly listening to this one!

The story of Elizabeth Holmes is fascinating. I recommend the Carreyrou book, but have not read Billion Dollar Facade (free on Kindle Unlimited).

The ‘hound is ready to get this show on the road NOW PLEASE!!!
I‘m doing the print and audio versions of the appalling saga of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. I‘ve already seen the documentary series and the drama series but I‘m still hooked by this story.

Bill Gates said: “Bad Blood tackles some serious ethical questions, but it is ultimately a thriller with a tragic ending. It‘s a fun read full of bizarre details that will make you gasp out loud,”. It also serves as a testament to the power and importance of unbiased investigative journalism. It had my jaw dropping and my tongue wagging for days, and I highly recommend it. Thoroughly enjoyed this! Good writing, clear and precise, and the story basically tells itself in all its horrifying details. Topped with a little morbid fascination to see footage of her (and her voice) on YouTube to complete the experience. The psychology behind her ability to string along so many powerful people is fascinating! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have consumed everything I can about the story of Elizabeth Holmes, Theranos, and her defrauding of her investors. Carreyrou‘s reporting on this case is excellent. #scarathlondailyprompts #lies #teamslaughter
What a wild ride. It is just unbelievable how long investors and the health care industry continued to nod along when basic fact checking/peer review would have revealed huge problems. Interesting, exasperating, sad and occasionally funny from the sheer audacity. At one point Holmes uses the phrase “a chemistry is performed” to describe one of the processes of her machine in in an interview, and I am still reeling.👇🏻
This book is such an interesting but frustrating experience. It is massive red flag after massive red flag, then they check in on the date/year and you realize it will be years before it starts to fall apart.
If you‘re a McElroy fan, it is like the longest, most frustrating episode of Sawbones you can imagine (Justin not included).
Things are getting wild and I still have 4 hours left, I imagine I will be yelling in my car on the way to work 😆

Got bored and drew a picture of Elizabeth Holmes. (I haven‘t mastered noses yet, lol!) The more I listen to this audiobook, the more I can‘t understand how people believed her lies.
Happy birthday to this little bugger. Boots turned 13 today. We adopted her when she was 1 1/2 and she‘s been one of the best parts of our lives since. She is sweet, spunky, and aggressively affectionate when she‘s hungry. I was listening to this audiobook this morning and she was so aggressively affectionate that she headbutted my headphone off. Love her to pieces.

Just started watching The Dropout on Hulu and thought I would read this book. The story about Elizabeth Holmes and Thernos is fascinated and baffling. It baffles me that anyone believed her, but apparently she was very charismatic and persuasive. I feel for all the people who were misdiagnosed by her company‘s blood testing.
I was enthralled. Everything that happened is just messed up. So many people (men, ok) blinded by Elizabeth.
Totally engrossing. Fascinating characters. Good pace for nonfiction. Makes me wanna watch the series on it.
I‘ve read/ watched/ listened to a lot about Elizabeth Holmes, so the information wasn‘t new, but I loved hearing about how Carreyrou constructed his story and how the downfall of Theranos played out. A highly recommended read.
This book was crazy. I cannot believe the lengths she went to to cover a lie. What makes me mad is how she paved the way for women and then ruined it for all women in Silicon Valley after her. She was not the next Steve Job but she was the next Jordan Belford.
Listened to this one on my weekend (end of the week) get away with the hubby. OMG I knew the story but... didn't realize the whole story till now ! This woman! I am super excited to watch the Hulu Adaptation now!

The Dropout, the limited series on Hulu is my latest obsession. At first I wasn‘t convinced Amanda Seyfried was going to be a good Elizabeth Holmes but I think she is nailing it. I read the tagged book a couple of years ago & the series seems to be aligned from what I remember. I binged the first 3 episodes & have caught the last 2 episodes as they were released.
The first session of this podcast lead me to read Carreyrou‘s book - which I loved. So now digging in to the section batch of these podcast episodes!
**** A good read with lots of details I hadn‘t heard anywhere else
Wow! This is a shocking but fascinating story. How Holmes thought she could get away with it? Blind optimism? Too much faith in her ideas? Did she set out to deceive everyone? Be interesting to see what sentence she gets. Thank you for putting this on my radar @shadowspeak17 #newyearwhodis #nywd
Started a little slow, but definitely got good once you were in it!
It was above zero finally today after a few days of extreme cold, so we did a walk. It was still very windy, but Peri was happy to run around and sniff things (her favorite activity).
I'm about halfway through listening to this audiobook and completely fascinated. I'm glad I started it. #audiowalk
Just got mail for the first time in five days and this was in it. Perfect timing @BeckyWithTheGoodBooks
I haven't listened to an audiobook in a while and my Audible credits are stacking up. I just saw Elizabeth Holmes was found guilty of fraud and it reminded me that I wanted to read this book. I'm going to start it while making supper.
The wild story of Elizabeth Holmes and her startup company, Theranos. I was pretty familiar with the chain of events, but Carreyrou‘s investigation into Holmes‘s deception and fraud is riveting. I am completely baffled by Holmes‘s ability to lie and charm so many powerful people in her pursuit of power and money. This was especially timely as we await the verdict in Holmes‘s trial for 11 federal fraud charges.5⭐️#wintergames2021 #averymerrybingo
I don‘t read a lot of non-fiction, but this was riveting. What a despicable person. Glad I read it!
Well this was the wildest book I‘ve ever read and the wildest part is that it‘s all true. I haven‘t been following the trial, although I need to now. My husband does oncology research & drug development & gets frustrated by greedy & unethical companies like Theranos. He feels that this is what makes it so difficult for small companies to get funding or taken seriously (especially when coming up with novel ideas to treat diseases). It‘s just sad to
Taking a break from Christmas books. I just started this today & already a 1/3 of the way through the book. My reading buddy is ready for bed but this story is so bonkers I can‘t stop reading. I remember reading an article years ago when the company first started & thought how interesting it sounded. Never would I have realized what was happening behind the scenes.
Finally finished my #lmpbc book! It will on its way to you shortly @BeckyWithTheGoodBooks
Fascinating and truly bonkers story. It felt a bit slow at times and I wonder if it was just because it was so science based and technical. Still really interesting!
I had no idea the trial was going on when this title made it to the top of my TBR list. I'm emotionally invested in seeing Elizabeth be prosecuted for her narcissistic approach to business.
"Hyping your product to get funding while concealing your true progress and hoping that reality will eventually catch up to the hype..." ?
"Like her idol Steve Jobs, she emitted a reality distortion field that forced people to momentarily suspend belief."?
I had to fly for work this week (the first time in 2 years 😬) and started on my #lmpbc read. It‘s gonna be a wild one!
#OctoberWrapUp
Bad Blood was my favorite of October. Uzumaki was also good and was a hit with my book club. I also FINALLY finished Flights after starting it back in June. I didn‘t really end up enjoying it, but I‘m glad I stuck it out and finished it.
