I have read this book several times and picked up some very deep gems hidden in the words. At first glance, this book is almost like a meditation manual on mindfulness. I enjoyed the practical advice that I could put into practice right away. Many more “advanced“ Buddhist books speak a lot about mindfulness but few actually capture the topic and practices like Hanh.

This is a short book with lots of chapters about all kinds of topics to encourage mindfulness and peace in everyday life. Although it isn‘t life-changing, I did think it was very calming and had some good perspective on things. I liked the parts about breathing, smiling, and making sure not to develop grudges.

“I have lost my smile,
But don‘t worry,
The dandelion has it.”

My favorite quote from Peace In Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh.

It‘s also very gloomy today and I love it! 🖤 #gloomydays #rainydays #readingcorner

I‘m grateful I finished up Part III of this book today, as the morning was incredibly stressful. I am going to take some of Thich Nhat Hanh‘s teachings straight to my yoga mat when I meditate tonight.

I love that he also incorporates the many ways you can bring mindfulness to your daily life. I can‘t believe it has taken me so long to read one of his books!

alisiakae @Butterfinger Yes, it is Buddhist, more so in the 2nd half than the first! Thich Nhat Hanh is a Buddhist monk. 4y

Listening to this book today. 🎧 📖

Most books on mindfulness feel like it is written by someone cashing in on the current buzzword. I much prefer to go back to the teachers and spiritual leaders who dedicate their life to the message of peace. People like Thich Nhat Hanh.

#foodandlit #Vietnam

Butterfinger That is something to consider. Mindfulness has been around a long time by cultures who have made it a purposeful thing. 4y

I only read one book for #FoodandLit #Brazil in January, but I have a whole line up for February #Vietnam!

I don't expect to read all of these, but I like having choices!

💫 The Mountains Sing - Vietnam based author
💫 The Sympathizer and Refugees - from the diaspora, Vietnamese-American author
💫 I've been meaning to read Thich Nhat Hanh's books for years, and my library has the 3 above available on audio!

Crazeedi Thich Nhat Hahn! Thank you, I have a couple of his books 4y

Cosmos_Moon_River Sorry you had to say goodbye to your kitty, and hope the new cats adjust to being part of your family quickly. 4y
Susanita I‘m sorry about your cat. No matter how old, it‘s still hard. A friend of mine lost her 14yo cat and went through a couple “bad matches” before adopting an adorable orange and white kitten. 4y
ImperfectCJ @Crazeedi It's hard to decide when the best time is to bring new pets home. We waited six months but probably could/should have waited longer. I was just missing having cats so much. 4y
ImperfectCJ @Susanita I'm glad to hear that your friend finally found a good match. And I definitely hear you on the "no matter how old". Our newly adopted cats are 3.5 years old and have only been with us for a little over two weeks, and I already feel like it would hurt dreadfully if something happened to them. 4y
ImperfectCJ @Cosmos_Moon Thank you. These two are really sweet, and I feel confident they're going to feel like part of the family before too long. That might coincide with when they finally decide that my spouse isn't Incredibly Scary. 4y
ImperfectCJ @Megabooks Thank you! I have to watch or I find myself feeling guilty about how much I love these new cats already. 4y
Crazeedi @ImperfectCJ that's what I'm contemplating now, I miss having furballs on my lap😥 4y

I swear I‘m going to read every single thing Thich Nhat Hanh has written. He‘s far and away one of my favorite spiritual writers.

I have somewhat of a love hate relationship with non fiction and I picked this book up for The Two Book Nerds Talking challenge for a book on Mindfulness.

This book made me pay attention to my breathing, even more, especially while I yoga. There is a lot of self love in this one. Not a bad read.

His lessons are practical, and easily practiced. Which may be why I quite like this book. Nothing like the other fluff we see in other self help books.

I don't make #newyearsresolutions. My goal is always just to be kind. This year, after losing my husband, I withdrew even further into myself. I took way too many things to heart, stopped taking care of myself. I started taking many things personally, because I was already in such an emotional state anyway. I got my feelings hurt many times by things people said or did, that in times past would have been a momentary irritation.

The first 2 parts of the book were like a beginning guide to meditation and mindfulness. I got some useful ideas from them. The last section felt too advanced for me. There was a lot of interesting things to think about.

I especially love the section about easy ways to meditate. The suggestions are doable for beginners. Smile on the outbreath and notice the instant lifting in your mood.

A simple reminder to be present and to be kind. Certainly the world could use more of that.

Maewyn There are some wonderful videos of him teaching on YouTube that I watched while reading this. I love his very clear descriptions and explanations. 6y

It turns out concussions can take awhile to heal. I‘m almost at a month since the accident and I‘m very limited on my screen use, but I miss Litsy!

This was a good listen, and a good reminder about mindfulness. I‘ve been meditating every day for a few weeks now and I‘m finding it very helpful in recovery. There‘s been a lot of ugly crying and frustration too. I am healing, I will heal.

Well, apparently the Doctor's admins gave me the wrong date. The office was closed. I checked the email again. It says the 22nd of October for sure. I don't know what date it was supposed to say but that was apparently a typo. Oh well. Baby is napping now and I guess I'll read a little before trying to clean some.

Thich Nhat Hanh is amazing. I get a lot out of all of his books. This one I listened to on audiobook and liked the soothing narration of Edorado Ballerini. I must admit that while I like the format (self to family to community to world), when he gets macro, I feel completely lost. I guess I have more practicing to do! 😌

I read this on vacation last summer and then sort of forgot about it. A post I came across on Litsy reminded me of it last night so I decided to dig it out and bring it with me today 🙂

I mean the book has a freakin' forward written by the Dalai Lama. THE DALAI LAMA! How can it not be great?
