I am my own worst enemy. (Can we forget about the things I said when I was drunk?)
Having a quiet Saturday night in with some knitting, some tv, and my book.

"'Too New York' is what the last network that was approached about me responded, which is a cute way of being anti-Semitic, but who cares? I'd rather be too New York than too anything else."
I really couldn't agree more, Nora. I'd rather be too New York than too anything else, too.
I've only just started this one, but I really miss Nora Ephron.
Hey Littens! I'm doing a giveaway on Instagram--feel free to enter (you can find me there as @katedensen -- you can basically find me everywhere on the Internet as @katedensen).
I will be doing a Litsy-only giveaway, but I'm saving the reallllllyyyy good stuff for that 😉
I don't have to be at work for a few more hours, and it started pouring, so I stopped what I was doing to curl up with my book. Isn't rainy weather is the best reading weather?
Big Paul is basically me (redhead with very curly hair) & it has been awfully hot for July. These are the nicest things I have to say about this one, which I read because Noll was referred to as a Brazilian Murakami. Vaguely masochistic in an overtly wannabe Hemingway-esque way & mostly boring--the bulk of the action is rushed during the last 20ish pages and I cared more about seeing the book through than the narrator or his fate. A pile of meh.
"But people themselves alter so much, that there is something new to be observed in them."
Happy #JaneAusten200, Littens.
(Also, hi?)
Today's mini #bookhaul from McNally Jackson: Atlantic Hotel (Hotel Atlântico) by João Gilberto Noll (translated from Brazilian by Adam Morris) and Bye Bye Blondie by Virginie Despentes (translated from French by Siân Reynolds).
I forgot my book at home today, so I stopped by McNally Jackson to buy a few and have some lunch. #KateDensenDines #bookandlunch
Still recovering from a virus that knocked me on my ass all of last week, but I'm finally well enough to a) be in public and b) read and actually understand the words.
Fun fact: I hate summer. Especially in NYC. Can I just read until this heat wave is over?
Loving this Wonder Woman display at one of my all-time favorite indie NYC bookstores, Shakespeare & Company. Especially fitting because I'm (finally) seeing the movie later!
Spotted on the downtown A between 145th and 125th, 9:53 am.

You're too kind, @britt_brooke! I would love either The Animators or Lillian Boxfish Takes A Walk. 😍 #itsnotyouitsme
I was a very lucky girl who overheard the woman ahead of me in the line to meet @EloisaJames (who is LOVELY, so looking forward to drinks with her later) say that she was tired and going home and wasn't going to use her ticket to the Neil Patrick Harris signing. BRB, dead. #BEA17
Senator Al Franken and Marc Maron in conversation at #BEA17. Maron: "Let's address the elephant in the room: we're looking to you to save us all."
High Fidelity is one of my all-time favorite books that was turned into a film, because each is amazing in its own right. Also, John Cusack.

My life/work schedule is super last minute, so I didn't get tickets to either BEA or BookCon in advance because I didn't want to buy them and not be able to attend.
Butttttt...I'm just got tickets for tomorrow (Friday 6/2) at BEA and Saturday at BookCon, so reach out if you'll be there too. Yay, books!
Dinner (Korean-style chicken with pickled Enoki mushrooms and roasted potatoes/cabbage) has been cooked, eaten, and cleaned up, so now it's time for some (more) wine and my book.

Day 1 of #riotgrams calls for a #shelfie...my shelves runneth over, so I've started using my window sills as bookshelves, too. It's like a bookish life-hack!
Also, most of these are on my priority #tbr list, so let's just go with All Grown Up by Jami Attenberg for #MostAnticipated for #JuneBookBugs.
Finally figured out the perfect title for today's #JuneTunz theme of #SmellsLikeTeenSpirit. Also timely because the film (also amazing on its own) is being re-released.
Oh snap. It's my one-year anniversary on @Litsy
I love this community so very much. Thank you all for your words of support and kindness during the less than great times, and for being there for the good times too.
As many of you know, I'm based in NYC, so if there are any Littens at BEA or BookCon who want to meet for a bookish drink or cup of coffee, please reach out.
I was playing around with some hand-lettering last night and wrote out my May reads--six books total isn't so bad given that I was in a slump in April. I'm having trouble picking my favorite--it's a three-way tie among The Nest, The Secret History, and Talking as Fast as I Can.
What's the difference between a drama queen and just full-on psycho? Regardless, Martha (and maybe George, too) from Edward Albee's play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is my pick for today's #characters2017 theme of #dramaqueen. (Despite the recent controversy coming from the Albee estate--seriously, wtf--I still love the play.)
At what point does the perpetual stream of bad days become something else? A bad week, month, period, general time? Sigh. Trying to do some self care by spending some alone time with my book and a glass of wine at one of my favorite West Village spots.
I had an Epically Bad Day™, so I had pancakes and wine for dinner, resulting in a pancake coma and being in bed before 8 PM. These are my plans for the evening: starting a new book (yay!) and continuing to knit the ugliest scarf that ever did scarf. Also, rewatching 30 Rock on Netflix. Winning?
For all you Murakami fans...here's an article from Vulture, "What Is It About Haruki Murakami That Mesmerizes People?"

I was cleaning out my closet and found this amazing t-shirt from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart circa 2004. Still relevant or more relevant now? Sad to think about, but also, man, can we talk about how cool I was as a teenager?
Finished this around 1 AM -- a cute retelling of The Taming of the Shrew, which is an important play to me: my parents named me after Cole Porter's musical "Kiss Me, Kate," which is based on TotS. So, I was biased to like it, which deterred me from labeling it "so-so."
A light, fluffy read. Kate was a little too determinedly antisocial, which was probably a conscious move to mitigate the oft lambasted misogynistic themes of Shakespeare's text.
It's about 4:30 on Sunday, and so far today I have had (an alcohol free) brunch with my best friend from college and her baby, performed long form improv at UCB, had a post-show mimosa and brownie batter in a jar with @LBApple and her husband, and took a walk through a very crowded Washington Square Park.
Now, I'm starting a new book on the train home. Who's that busy bee? It me.
Another clever adventure with Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils.
Going on another adventure with Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils before I dive into my next novel (either Americanah or Vinegar Girl, haven't decided yet).
Thank you to the Littens who recommended this--a novel about a dysfunctional New York family told from multiple perspectives? As far as genre goes, it is up my alley & then some. I described it to a friend: "Think A Visit from the Goon Squad meets This Is Where I Leave You."
Sweeney's writing is gorgeous and I found myself rooting for all of the characters (except Leo), despite their myriad flaws, neuroses, quirks, etc.
(Photo from yesterday.)
Good morning, Littens! It's Friday and I don't have to work today, so I'm relaxing on the deck with coffee and this fantastic book (thank you to everyone who recommended it--could not be more up my alley). I've got about 40 pages left, so I'm hoping to finish before I have to move on to adulthood things like laundry and cleaning.
TFW you realize it's only Tuesday, but at least there's wine and your book.
I usually switch to a physical book once I'm on the subway, but this #audiobook was so delightful that I kept listening. I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan, so hearing how much Graham loved the show, being Lorelai, and getting to be Lorelai again was as heartwarming as Stars Hollow.
An affable narrator/author/actress with whom I want to be best friends. Excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch all of GG (including a Year in the Life) now. All the stars.
Found this cute little book while browsing at one my favorite indie bookstores, Shakespeare and Company, and wished I could buy and send one to every single Litten ❤️
Had a little extra time this morning, so I walked through Central Park to get to the East Side to meet a client while listening to this amazing #audiobook.
I blame my brain's current dark and twisty place for this, but here's my offering for today's #RockInMay theme of #TheRiver...it was literally the first book I thought of because of the ending (or at least what I remember of it, I read this when I was 10?), and wow, that's depressing, let me go listen to some more of Lauren Graham's audiobook.
I've always thought that Lauren Graham and I would be AMAZING friends, and listening to her book on audio is only confirming that suspicion. I love her "Hollywood Food Chart," especially the "Does not apply to French people" disclaimer.
I got about ten minutes of reading at Starbucks in before I had to work and go about my day 😒
Bailing just over a minute into this #audiobook because I can't stand the narrator's voice. She sounds computerized, like Siri or Stephen Hawking's text-to-speech. I do still want to read this one, but will have to do so the "old-fashioned" way.
For Day 15 of #MayBookFlowers: #fruit ???
This is such a weird (but truly great) book. I actually included it in a list of ten contemporary titles about dysfunctional families on my weekly "Kate Curates the Internet" blog post yesterday. The list is called "Unhappy In Its Own Way." ?
To see the list (and the rest of the post--there's actually a bunch of bookish stuff on there this week including some funny HP jokes): http://bit.ly/2qjEk6u
Got this email from NYPL last night--going to finally "read" this one. Also excited to start listening to audiobooks again!
For Mother's Day and my aunt's birthday, @LBApple (my best friend and cousin) and I did a third installment of this infamous (at least in our family) Wonder Woman photo. Here we are at age 3, age 16, and now (age 29). Next installment: age 42...oy!
