Muse of Nightmares
Muse of Nightmares: Book Two of Strange the Dreamer | Laini Taylor
Sarai has lived and breathed nightmares since she was six years old. She believed she knew every horror, and was beyond surprise. She was wrong. In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep. Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice - save the woman he loves, or everyone else? - while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of. As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel's near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with the thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead? Love and hate, revenge and redemption, destruction and salvation all clash in this gorgeous sequel to the New York Times bestseller, Strange the Dreamer. Praise for Strange the Dreamer 'Magical' Grazia 'Prepare to be enchanted' Sun 'Leaves the reader enthralled, enchanted and entirely entranced' New York Journal of Books 'Laini Taylor is so damn good and like no other' Leigh Bardugo, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom

It was a slow start with this one, but it picked up towards the middle and then I couldn‘t put it down. I really loved these characters from the first book until now, and they all had wonderful arcs across both books in the series. There‘s heartache, beautiful dreams and amazing world building, romance, and plenty of magic. It ended beautifully and I‘m glad to have read this series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

“Muse of Nightmares” is a satisfying sequel and conclusion to its previous “Strange the Dreamer”. I loved the character arcs and development as Weep deals with the aftermath of the previous book‘s ending and overcoming years-worth of hatred and bias. The introduction of Nova and the ties she had to the story was interesting and definitely not one I was expecting. Overall, this was a fitting end to the duology.

“For that instant, at least, they seemed one and the same, as though all anguish exists in the same deep well, no matter what loss or misfortune leads us to it. We might be at odds, hate each other, and desire each other‘s destruction, but in our despair, we are lost in the same darkness, breathing the same air as we choke on our grief.”

OMFG!!! I LOVE THIS BOOK SOOOO MUCH !!!! Seriously more fantasy books should go the duology route. There is just something about a story perfectly executed in two books and yet leaving you wanting more in a good way. There are so many complex and interesting characters and stories. Minya and Nova are phenomenal characters that absolutely break the heart. I can‘t wait to reread these books.I really hope the author takes us back to these worlds.

Deblovestoread Love this duology, too! 2y

Do you ever go about your day, doing what needs done, and keep having that nagging thought "I want to get back to that show I was watching and finish it. It's so good." Then you remember that wasn't a show you were watching, it was the book you are reading.
Laini Taylor is exceptional at what she does. The story so well written it plays out like movie within your brain. It is a complicated, magical, and beautiful place to be. ?

This sequel to Strange the Dreamer does not disappoint. Taylor takes the story to new and unimagined (at least by me) twists that fit perfectly with the world she created. All the narrative threads, so patiently woven, came together seamlessly and with authenticity, and all couched in her silken syntax that so delights my English teacher heart. In short, I am a devoted Laini Taylor fan!

Minya gets a story, but so do other characters that were entirely unneeded. For an almost 600 page book, it was pretty boring. I was hoping for a lot more. 😕

I'm combining #Haunted prompts 18 (Raven) and 19 (possessed) with a favorite of mine (instead of posting an Enchantment of Ravens like I was going to and several other smarties did!). This book comes with a bit of a possession reversal, where the ghosts aren't the possessors, they're the possessed! (Content warnings for implied rape, memory loss, loss of body autonomy, murder, toxic familial relationship, grief). #Ghost

Sadly I'm going to have to give this one 2 stars. I liked the first one but this one was just too lengthy. I got about half way threw the audio and thought wow that was a good sequel, then it went on for another 8 hours. Near the last couple hours and I just didn't care anymore and just wanted to be done with it. There were so many things that could have been cut. And I just didn't like the plot.

🎧 I loved Strange the Dreamer. This is a perfect follow up. Steve West has an amazing voice! I will relisten to this so I‘m spending my second credit of the year! 😁 This is a slow magical story that keeps you turning the pages. I like the writing style. I don‘t want to give anything away so I‘ll just say that if you liked Strange the Dreamer I think you‘ll love this one! Adding the hardcover to my Amazon wishlist! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Once again I enjoyed Laini's ability to create vivid flawed characters in the second installment of Strange the Dreamer.

Like the first book, this story is very character driven, probably even more so than the first book. I found the conclusion of this to be satisfying, but IMO it left it open for further stories within this world.

I particularly loved Steve West's narration.

A solid 4 star read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So I absolutely loved the first book, Strange the Dreamer. And I thought this story was so beautiful as well. This author is a fantastic writer. It deserves the four stars. I just thought this second book felt more like a stand alone. It did not have enough Lazlo Strange or Nero in it though. But still great! This was my #bookspinbingo No. 24 pick.

Oh I did not enjoy this book. I nearly stopped reading the last 100 pages, but forced myself to skim read through to the end. I still have the same issues as the previous book ( if the romance wasn't so flourished the book would be half its length). Specific to this book was that it had too many non MC povs that contributed nothing to the story. These povs had similar arcs as more important characters, thus being repetitive and boring to me.
