Really liked this book
Library haul from yesterday. Now, if you would excuse me, I've got some reading to do...
I had to bail on this one. I don‘t mind YA novels, but this is TOO YA for me. 🫤
“The New York Times bestselling School for Good and Evil series is an epic journey into a dazzling new world, where the only way out of a fairy tale is to live through one. Start here to follow Sophie, Agatha, and everyone at school from the beginning!”
Agatha and Sophie have solved the School Master‘s riddle - so now they should be able to go home. But I‘m only halfway through the book.
It got off to a slow start initially but picked up. It‘s not obvious where it‘s going yet, which is good. There were some odd vocabulary choices which didn‘t make sense to me.
This started out clever but am about a third into the book, and the characters are beginning to grate on me. So I am going to put this aside.
I'll just watch the movie for the summary. 😅
I always try and read books which my students say are their favourites, and this one was mentioned recently.
It‘s a fun take on the good/evil fairytale storyline, and I can understand why it‘s well liked.
For me though I found it a bit predictable, I listened to most of it on 2x speed.
I really liked the book, specially because the movie is really close to is. It is not like I saw an different story compared to the book. The book has even more specific details to make the story even better.
I was not expecting to like this book as much as I do. Predictable, but I enjoyed the journey!
I work at a bookstore and I‘m sad to say I‘m woefully inadequate when it comes to reads for kids outside of what I read as a child or my two sons reading choices. This is my first read from the pile I brought home from work. I thought this was a very creative way to address fairytales. I may even make an attempt to watch the movie.
"'You think he's your prince? He's just a puffed-up windbag who can't find anything better to do than prance around half naked and thrust his sword where it doesn't belong!'"

Loved the movie so decided to give the books a try 🧚🏾♀️
Doing a quick reread of the first book; with everything going on rn (kitty diabetes is nothing to mess with) it reads like an old school fairytale which is exactly what I‘m looking for. Plus the Netflix movie really made me want to finish this series😅
Just watched the school for good and evil film and quite liked it, I'd been debating the books for a while so wanted to sneak a peek. Anyone else watched it or have read the books???
I wanted to read this book before the movie came out. Overall, I enjoyed it, but Sophie‘s character may be the most frustratingly shallow person of all time. I realize this is likely very intentional.
With the movie right around the corner, I think it‘s time for a reread…
“In the forest of primeval
A school for Good and Evil
Twin towers like two heads
One for the pure
And one for the wicked
Try to escape, you‘ll always fail
The only way out is
Through a fairytale.”

Fun start to a series about two friends who end up in the School for Good and Evil but not on the same side. https://cannonballread.com/2022/09/the-school-for-good-and-evil-book-1-elcicco/
Happy Friday, littens! 💕📚💕 I'm working all weekend so today I made sure to spend a lot of time at the park reading! 😄
Beef stew, bread, and cheese for dinner! 😋💕📚 This is one of my favorite dinners because it always makes me feel like I'm in a fantasy story! 🐉📖
Reading fairytale type books in the woods is one of my favorite things! 🌿📚
I love this opening line! ?
"Sophie had waited all her life to be kidnapped."
Also, can I just freely admit that I am a huge sucker for books that have cool illustrations at the start of every chapter! ???
Chaplin decided we are going to read this next! 😸 My tween book club will be reading this for next month's discussion so it's perfect timing! 📚💕 #catsoflitsy #chaplin
This made for a fun listen for my car trip.
This was a struggle. Interesting idea, great premise, but it's a looooong and very odd book with a lot of massive plot holes...
For a middle grade book, this story had a surprising amount of darkness and cruelty.
Here is my current progress for #bookspinbingo. My March reading started off really great, but teetered off over the last week. Thanks to the #MarvellousMarch Readathon I‘m starting to get my mojo back, so I‘m hoping to get through a few more of these before the end is up…. Though I‘ve definitely been more into mood reading lately. 💛
Excited about this one!! It's gonna be a movie, already in post production! I have the whole series, so I'm hoping they turn all the series into movies. I hope I'm not disappointed with it. For now, I'm reading the first book.
Anyone read it? Any comments?
YES! Those paperbacks are driving me crazy!! I need to get hard copies so they match the collection. I also have the guide! It's heavy!!! LOL
I don't know whether this was because I was listening to the book rather than reading it but I found a lot of the descriptions off putting. There was a lot of comments on teenage bodies that bordered on skeevy and it really affected my enjoyment of the book
I don‘t know if the series gets any better after this book or not but I‘m not going to bother to find out. I really should have stopped when my brain started nit picking things that it found incredibly questionable and worrisome, and kept bothering me throughout. I wanted to see what the hype was for though and kept on, and really wished I hadn‘t.

Fantasy/ Fairytale
I was hooked when I read the first sentance the writer showed me the scene instead of telling it to me in a blunt and boring way. I have to admit I slowly started to lose motavation to read it but I was determined to find out what would happen to these two friends. I chose this book as a pick becayse it taught me that once you find your worth with the help of friends and family you only need them to be pure.
I really loved this book. It's a great dark twist on the magical school trope. The writing style is definitely developed with the older middle grade set in mind, but there are some dark & slightly more mature pieces that make it better suited for YA readers. The plot is fun & twisty with lots of entertaining moments. I just had a lot of fun reading this. It challenges the typical fairy tale tropes with a very flippant approach. Just a fun time.
Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. I wanted to like it - the concept is super fun & there were some great ideas, but ultimately the "message" about good/evil/beauty/ugly/friendship just felt incredibly muddled. I also felt like the characters should have been significantly older than 12 - I was bothered by descriptive phrases like "her extremely short dress showed off long, creamy legs" written by a man describing a child.
It wasn't a bad ⬇️
1. Not any more (although I use it for books A LOT). Growing up, when computers & internet were new, we used those resources all the time. (I wrote many college papers on the library computers!) Sometimes we would ride with my dad to the city & while he was at work, would spend the entire day at the main Columbus Metropolitan Library, which is an amazing place.
2. Not lately, other than asking them to bring my books to the car - curbside only ⬇
My #weeklyforecast is about as uncertain as Ohio's (we should be getting somewhere between 2-12" of snow...super helpful prediction...) These are the next books on the shelf, but since the tagged is due back at the library, it will probably be the next one I pick up. If I like it, my reading will veer into the rest of the (quite chunky) series.
Meanwhile, trapped inside a Kindle book that is apparently 810 pages long. Yet another reason Kindle ⬇️
#FabulousFebruary starts tomorrow & I'm super stoked!! I'll be a lot busier with work for the next three months (greenhouse season woohoo!!) so I'm really hoping to rack up some pages while I can!! My goal is to read 2500 pages across the nine days, including the tagged book which is on my #NewYearWhoDis list!!
Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 !! I love this monthly readathon so much!!
#wondrouswednesday
1. One of my favourite books 😍
2. I‘d love for Puck from The Scorpio Races to be my bestie.
3. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne to a friend.

I think the author started they way he did to hook the reader in and not be able to take there eyes off the book. I belive he did a splended job of pulling the reader into the book once I started to read I couldn't put it down. In the book it shows not tell how scared people are when children dissapear and instead of telling the whole plot you need to look deeper to find the message within the book.
Okay, I think I have my #BookSpin list!! A lot of Litsy books here - the tagged is my next #NewYearWhoDis, a series that has actually been on TBR for a while. The problem is that it's quite the chunkster & if I like it there are five more!!! My two #LMPBC books (can't remember what's coming for me from #GroupR lol), Orient Express for #agathachristieclubr2, two books about Vietnam for #foodandlit, Mansfield Park for #PemberLittens, Of Beasts & ⬇

Every four years two children are kidnapped one for good and one for evil. Sophie wants to be kidnapped by the schools master for the school of good and evil. While everyone else prepares many locks on their door and go to sleep Sophie sneaks to her best friend Agathas house. Hoping to be kidnapped and join the school.
I liked this one more than I thought I would. When it first started I was not too sure about then it picked up and I got into the story. Loved the characters of Sophie and Agatha and the theme of true friendship. Great lesson for kids to look beyond the surface and the goodness of someone's heart. 4⭐

1. Rescue Me by Sarra Manning
2. Love the tagged book, even got my daughter hooked on the series too
3. The scariest movie I‘ll be watching is Hocus Pocus 🎃😂😂
