Magnolia Table
Magnolia Table: A Collection of Recipes for Gathering | Joanna Gaines, Marah Stets
Magnolia Table is infused with Joanna Gaines' warmth and passion for all things family, prepared and served straight from the heart of her home, with recipes inspired by dozens of Gaines family favorites made famous by Joanna's bakery, the Silos Baking Co., and classic comfort selections from the couple's new Waco restaurant, Magnolia Table, which opens early 2018. Jo believes there's no better way to celebrate family and friendship than through the art of togetherness, celebrating tradition, and sharing a great meal. Magnolia Table includes 125 classic recipes-- from breakfast, lunch, and dinner to small plates, snacks, and desserts-- presenting a modern selection of American classics and personal family favorites. Complemented by her love for her garden, these dishes also incorporate homegrown, seasonal produce at the peak of its flavor. Inside Magnolia Table, you'll find recipes the whole family will enjoy, such as: Chicken Pot Pie Chocolate Chip Cookies Asparagus Fontina Quiche Brussels Sprouts with Crispy Bacon, Toasted Pecans, and Balsamic Reduction Peach Caprese Overnight French Toast White Cheddar Bisque Fried Chicken with Sticky Poppyseed Jam Lemon Pie Mac and Cheese Full of personal stories and beautiful photos, Magnolia Table is an invitation to share a seat at the table with Joanna Gaines and her family.

I resisted this book for a long time, but I finally have to admit I‘m attracted to several of the recipes. I just tend not to like “celeb” type cookbooks. But this looks really good and it‘s going to be dinner!

Decided to finally see what all the fuss was about - think this cookbook is going to be the backbone of my next few weeks of grocery shopping now. And love that I bought a book full of "recipes for gathering" at a time when gathering is not possible #covidfooddiaries #cookbook #gatheringrecipes #practicingforfuturegatherings

The biscuits from the “Magnolia Table” cookbook are delicious, especially when someone else makes them. I have had to remove myself from their presence because I‘m pretty sure I could finish the pile if I really put my mind to it. Happy Easter!🐰🐣🍬

Made the potato soup, fatayar (meat pie type thing), and ricotta pancakes. All 3 were fine/good. Not super impressed. I think I‘m done with this cookbook.

KendylChamberlain I have this one but havent read it yet... I have one for you.... Bread and Wine, I forget the author but her book is more about the friends and family around the table. Short stories and lots of great recipes. I actually pulled a Julie and Julia thing where I made 95% of the book‘s recipes! They weren‘t all good but I posted my journey on IG and my friends said it was fun to watch! Plus I got more than a few new recipes in my cook book! 6y

New Year‘s Day dinner in the south. Black eyed peas, smoked ham, turnip greens, white beans and ham hocks, cornbread. Don‘t knock it till you try it. The peas are for luck in the south. When General Sherman burned the south, they left the black eyed peas crop. The Yankees thought they were not edible. The peas left saved thousands of lives.

JoScho And the collards are for money! We are having the same thing for dinner 🖤 6y
Reecaspieces @JoScho you are exactly right. I am not a fan! 😂. I took my obligatory small bite😂. 6y
Addison_Reads We eat cabbage here in Texas instead of greens for money. But we have the black eyed peas for luck. This was very similar to our lunch today, except no meat since my husband and kiddo are vegetarian. 😁 6y

This #cookbook was a disappointment overall: beautiful design, but the recipes are a throwback to the 70s—with Velveeta, cardboard tubes of refrigerated dough, cans of creamed soup & packets by Knorr. Meals aren‘t complete without meat, except it‘s ok to serve veggie frittata for “lunch with the ladies.” Photography in creamy pastels with romantic/rustic ethos. The outdoor shots of the farm are as American-dreamy as those taken indoors.

saresmoore Thank you for reviewing! That‘s just about what I had anticipated with this one. I quite like Joanna‘s aesthetic & business sensibilities, but don‘t think I‘d trust her guidance beyond those areas. 6y
Lindy @saresmoore Mine is an unpopular opinion: I‘ve only seen glowing reviews online. The two recipes that generate the most excitement are her chocolate chip cookies, which I find ordinary, and her biscuits, which are made with eggs (nope). 6y
kyraleseberg I felt the same, nothing new or exciting. 6y
See All 6 Comments
8little_paws This sounds horribly unappetizing. I honestly don't see the appeal of this couple or any of the HGTV people tbh, but I don't have cable and don't watch them regularly. 6y
Lindy @kyraleseberg Glad I‘m not alone here. I don‘t need recipes for mashed potatoes and BLTs. 6y
Lindy @8little_paws I don‘t watch TV and hadn‘t heard of the couple until I had this cookbook in my hands. I heard about the cookbook because it was on longlists for awards and I‘ve waited months to get a copy through my library. 6y

“Creamy risotto is filling & satisfying enough to be a full meal, but if you are serving it to someone who doesn‘t consider anything a full meal without meat, stir in shredded rotisserie chicken. On the other hand, if you want to make it truly vegetarian, use vegetable instead of chicken broth.”
My first reaction to the vegetable broth advice was “Duh!” But the core audience for this cookbook may not know that chicken broth isn‘t vegetarian.

tournevis But... but... It's *chicken*... 6y
Lindy @tournevis Yes. I‘ve encountered plenty of people who ask if I eat chicken or fish when I say that I‘m vegetarian. 6y
DivineDiana I have had similar experiences! It is so interesting! 6y

melbeautyandbooks 🤦‍♀️ 6y
Lindy @DivineDiana @tournevis @melbeautyandbooks I wonder if it‘s the elasticity of the term “vegetarian”—that it means different things to different people—that has led to the use of “plant-based” instead, when describing vegetarian cookery. 6y
melbeautyandbooks I think you could be right about that. I have heard some folks refer only to beef as meat. Meaning, they don‘t consider chicken as meat. It makes no sense to me. 6y
8little_paws Good grief! 6y
DivineDiana Agree. I also have people ask do you eat fish? 6y

The recipe for Syrian donuts is the only one I was interested in trying from this #cookbook. Scenes from my baking project are above. It‘s a baked yeast donut with a firm texture, soaked in syrup. Gaines advises eating them while still warm, but I have found the flavour and texture is better on the second day. I‘m obviously not the only person intrigued by this recipe because you can buy it printed on a tea towel from Magnolia Market.

saresmoore It looks like you did the recipe justice! They are quite appetizing. 6y
Lindy @saresmoore Thanks! I am surprised they turned out as well as they did. I had to substitute flour because I ran out: I used a mix of all of the white I had, all of the spelt, and topped that up with whole wheat pastry flour. 6y
LauraBeth You know what would go perfectly with those bagels? Some Tim Horton‘s coffee! 😀☕️ 6y

Gaines: “If you told me I could have only one thing every day for the rest of my life, it would be mac and cheese. I realize this is exactly the choice that many 8-year-olds would make, and I‘m okay with that.”
Me: Good choice. But why make it with Velveeta cheese? And why call it a side dish, and recommend serving it with chicken or meatloaf? I don‘t understand these choices!

readordierachel Yeah, those are odd pairings. Mac and cheese is fine on its own! (Or with broccoli) 6y
Lindy @readordierachel As it happens, I listened yesterday to the Gastropod episode about mac and cheese. Learned there was a restaurant that served only mac and cheese for 9 years. https://gastropod.com/who-invented-mac-and-cheese/ 6y

Not really a fan of the couple or their show. Nothing personal, just not into that stuff. Wasn‘t really interested in this book since it‘s EVERYWHERE! But I decided to pick it up at the library and flip through it while on my lunch (because everyone needs some food porn every once in awhile).....and now I want this book for myself! Food looks fantastic and simple to make!!

Life goes on. And I'm being extra gentle with myself. Reading a magazine to get back into books. Chaos in the form of dogs and my toddler. But I like the chaos, keep it coming!
Also, have read the tagged book, such a sweet couple, even if I don't agree with all of their politics 😏

We tried Gaines Family Chili recipe from Magnolia Table cookbook (HGTV Fixer Upper) for dinner tonight. Is very good and easy to make, a keeper. 👍🏻😋

In 6qt stock pot brown 2lbs hamburger w/1 chopped onion. Drain grease. Add in 4- 15oz cans Ranch Style (Brand) Beans + 2- 10oz Rotel. Stir. Bring to boil, then simmer 30min. Serve in bowls, topping off with Fritos, then shredded cheddar cheese.

I may buy but has anyone tried other recipes in it?
