Great book! Bradbury discusses his writing processes, inspirations, and gives advice for aspiring writers. It is also part-memoir as he talks about how/why he became a writer and his early struggles.

Just… don‘t use the inflation calculator when he talks about how much he was paid for his first books. 😩

Me, trying to keep a writing schedule going after my creative writing class ended at the beginning of December 😭
I hadn't written in years and this short class was the kick I needed to be motivated and inspired... and I haven't written a word since the final class 😒 hoping it's just the holiday chaos and I'll find my way back to the page again in 2022 🤞

Had high hopes from this book, a collection of essays by Ray Bradbury on the art of writing. Some of the essays were great, others so-so. I think someone who enjoys Bradbury‘s short stories and novels would find the more enjoyable. #LitsyAtoZ Z for Zen in the Art of Writing

I really liked this little writing guide. I enjoyed Bradbury's descriptions of his own methods, where his ideas for his stories came from, his hometown, etc. He has an engaging, energetic way of description that sucked me in immediately. I want to read more of his short stories now.

I think it‘s time to admit to myself that I‘m not going to complete all my reading challenges this year.😢 I‘m 2 books short and don‘t think I‘ll have the time to get through. I completed and surpassed my #mounttbr goal and Goodreads challenge. One shy for #readharder2018 and one for #LitsyAtoZ. I think next year I‘ll take a year off aside from Goodreads. Part of what got me behind was wanting to read outside of my challenge lists. #lennox

BarbaraTheBibliophage I loved this book. And I hear you about challenges. This year I did too many. I just kept piling them on! In 2019 I‘m down to three, plus MountTBR. (Gah! Maybe it‘s still too many!) 6y
jen_hayes7 @BarbaraTheBibliophage Hahaha!! That is still so many challenges!! Though, now that you mention it, MountTBR is pretty easy to tack on if you‘re planning on reading from your existing library anyway. (And this is how it all starts!! 🤣) Good luck with your challenges and Happy 2019!! 🥳 6y

Visiting Gramma & I‘m struggling with #NaNoWrimo at the mo. Some days I can meet the word goal but I don‘t know my character and I think that‘s holding me back. Spanning decades, this is a collection of Bradbury's odds and ends on the topics of creativity and writing. The writer's-life philosophies he preaches, they're not anything new, this having been published in the 90s, but I do feel, because of Bradbury's way with words, the lessons got a little deeper under my skin. His journey is inspiring, and I'm more determined than ever to pick up Farenheit 451 as well as a couple of his fiction anthologies.

GingerAntics @jmofo no, I‘ve never heard of it. I honestly haven‘t read a lot of writing books. I‘ve really only taken one class and she didn‘t use any books on technique or anything. Meh. I was bored.

I know I am committing a sacrilege by saying that this book was boring. The book is a collection of essays on the craft of writing Bradbury wrote over the years for various publications. Bradbury comes off self-aggrandizing and pretentious. The most interesting part of the book were his inspirations for his greater known work. Don't get me wrong, I like Bradbury but just not this book.

Izai.Amorim No sacrilege. Most books on writing aren‘t good. 7y

I mentioned that Mr. B and I got new tattoos on Tuesday - my fourth, his first. It was an emotional choice, even though they aren't very big. Mine's on my forearm. His is on his upper arm at his shoulder. They're in memory of our beautiful granddaughter who passed away two years ago. Thanks to those of you who asked about them! Bradbury on writing and being a writer. I wish it wasn't so darn late. He's made me feel I can do it-that I HAVE to do it-and I want to sit down now and pound out my thousand words. A little typically heavy-handed Bradburyan, he still made me feel like he was talking to and caring about ME.

"So while our art cannot, as we wish it could, save us from wars, privation, envy, greed, old age, or death, it can revitalize us amidst it all." —Ray Bradbury.

Pretty pleased to get this book as a Kindle deal today. Read the 1st essay & then went to the desk for the first time in a while to write some (very rough!) fiction. Whew. Trying to channel Ray B's faith in the often uncertain process of just getting the words down & trusting what comes.
