Phasma fascinated me from her first appearance in the movies. Sadly, there's not a lot to learn about her there. That's why I enjoyed this book so much. Now I think even more that Phasma is a great character in the Star Wars universe, that deserved more than she got. Dawson wrote a great book, especially her way for telling the story pleased me. It's special, and that's what Phasma deserves.

This one was between a pick and a so-so for me… I enjoyed it, but I was much more interested in Vi‘s predicament and Siv‘s journey, even in Cardinal‘s motivations, than I was in Phasma‘s story. In fact I was left wanting to know what happened next for the three of them, much more than Phasma, so good book, but not necessarily for it‘s title character, which is sort of a shame.

#StarWarsBuddyRead

BookwormAHN I was hoping for a little more humanity out of Phasma but she still seems rather 2 dimensional for me. And I typically like the bad guys 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BookwormAHN I know what you mean, I found Cardinal much more compelling as the story when on (and I feel like we‘ve meet him before as Archex the child, I‘m trying to remember if he was mentioned as one of the children picked up on Jakku, maybe back in the Aftermath trilogy…but it‘s been awhile since I read them, so I‘m not sure.) 3y

I found this one really interesting. It's the backstory of General Phasma and since she is not one of my favorite characters I didn't think I'd like this one, but surprisingly I did. Although I still dislike Phasma.

BookwormAHN I throughly enjoyed Inferno Squad. I thought it was a bit gritter than some of the other Star Wars books. Presently I'm in the middle of Phasma and it's quite entertaining. 3y

Very enjoyable, though it further cements how unfortunately the character was treated in the movies. The reveal at the end about where her armor came from was a little blah, but I liked the storytelling aspect and the side story of Vi and Cardinal was very good.

Liked this book a lot better the second time around. I still have issues with the way the story is structured, but overall it has some really great moments and adds lots of world building to the ST.

Halloween's coming up, so this seemed like a good time to think about villains. I also realized in most of my recent reads the villian has been something like society or the concept of vengeance, which made this list a little challenging.

So I cheated a bit on my #starwarsbuddyread folks! I had been waiting on the hold for this one I‘ll probably just do a Re-read when it comes up because I LOVED it. This was a fascinating angle into distant parts of the galaxy and a character we know very little about. Also gave us some super interesting glimpses into the First Order. Absolutely loved and is one of my top Star Wars books!

callielafleur I thought it was very interesting that this wasn't from Phasma's point of view! I really enjoyed this one in general. Can't wait to do the reread, probably on audio this time. 6y
InLibrisVeritas I'm glad you enjoyed it! I am really looking forward to this one 6y
Alicia @callielafleur it is so amazing on audio! They captured Phasma voice perfectly! Also totally agree, I thought I was gonna end up liking her but since we don‘t really know what she was thinking it‘s a lot less sympathetic. 6y
CSeydel Is this one in the schedule? It looks interesting! I haven‘t seen (or I forgot) the master plan. I was so slow getting Lost Stars that I skipped Ahsoka ... but now I‘m reading Scoundrels. #worstreadingbuddy (edited) 6y
Alicia @CSeydel I assumed it is probably somewhere! But maybe far off!!! It‘s okay though! It‘s a new month! Though now I forget what we are reading for Sep.! 😂🤦🏽‍♀️ 6y

Still loving my obsession with Star Wars audiobooks. The only reason I give this a so-so, is because reading about the baddies isn‘t my fave. Interesting to see the roots of this intriguing character though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thought I would do something different for Friday.

With all negative things I hear about in fandoms I think it's time to spread the positive.

1. Chewy and R2D2
2. David Tennent
3. Team Snow
4. 3
5. Bunsen (and Dr Beaker).

HannaPolkadots Once, on an exam at uni, I managed to write about British PM David Tennant (instead of David Cameron)☺ needless to say he's my favorite doctor too 😁 6y
LibrarianRyan @HannaPolkadots that is funny. My micro bio professor always had a big points bonus question at the end of tests with random trivia. In 5 years I was the only person who could name the scientist muppets. 6y
BookishJess02 Ranking the Doctors?! 🤭 They are all the same person I will have you know. (That being said I too have a soft spot for Tennant‘s Doctor since I discovered the show during his era). 😀 6y

This book is listed twice, so I‘m posting on the version that has more reviews. I have no real way to express my feelings about this book but to do this:
Why you should read this book:
•Parnassos is a BEAUTIFULLY described world and is absolutely not to be missed by anyone who is into the Star Wars worlds
•The side characters are wonderfully developed
Don‘t read this book:
•Phasma is meh and her only character trait is evil
4/10

Library haul!!!! I don‘t really know when I‘m gonna have the time to read all these graphic novels but yay!!! Some were holds and some just sitting there!! I‘ve had to really utilIze holds a lot because our main library in Phoenix (closest to my house) was destroyed by a monsoon storm and it won‘t be repaired until late summer!

I know Captain Phasma is on the dark side, but... this was pretty darn dark. It felt a little off, tonally, like a Christopher Nolan take on the Star Wars universe. It was decently written, but I was looking for something a little more light and pulpy.

tournevis Dawson isn't exactly know for pulpy, though... 7y
2BR02B @tournevis I've only ever read her Ava Lovelace stuff, which was pretty light. 7y
ghosthost Have you read any other Star Wars novels? This is the only one I have read and I disliked it so much that I‘m afraid to try more. 7y
2BR02B @ghosthost No. I mostly picked this up due to the hype, not being a huge Star Wars fan myself. I don't know if I'll feel compelled to read any others, but if heard good things about 7y

I really enjoyed this book. It's a great backstory, and helped fill in some gaps about Phasma's role in the First Order. I got some vaguely Dune vibes from one of its themes, but that might just be me. All in all a really cool Star Wars story for anyone curious about Captain Phasma.

callielafleur I loved this one too! 7y

This was a great, suspenseful read! It used an interesting narrative structure, full of flashbacks, to dig deeper into the story of the mysterious stormtrooper leader Phasma from the Force Awakens. This was one of the best new canon Star Wars books I‘ve read. I really hope they end up using some of this material in the Last Jedi and expand Phasma‘s role in the film franchise, since she was kinda underused in Force Awakens.

InLibrisVeritas Glad to hear you enjoyed it! This is my next SW read. 7y
Jediash1 @InLibrisVeritas I hope you like it! I‘ve heard some did not care for the style, but I loved it. Sort of Star Wars meets Mad Max. 7y

Kind of disappointed in this book. The narration was all over the place and the story felt way to long. It succeeds in making Phasma a very evil and scary character but I still don‘t understand her at all, and in a book called Phasma that‘s a problem 😕
