Friday's Child | Georgette Heyer
224 posts | 20 read | 1 reading | 13 to read
"A lightsome, brightsome comedy." -Kirkus Reviews "Nimble, light-hearted chronicle of high London society in the time of the Regency." -The New Yorker Celebrate the 80th birthday of Regency Romance with great books from Sourcebooks Casablanca! Georgette Heyer's sparkling romances have charmed and delighted millions of readers. Her characters brilliantly illuminate one of the most exciting and fascinating eras of English history-when drawing rooms sparkled with well-dressed nobility and romantic intrigues ruled the day. Heyer's heroines are smart and independent; her heroes are dashing noblemen who know how to handle a horse, fight a duel, or address a lady. And her sense of humor is legendary. When the incomparable Miss Milbourne spurns the impetuous Lord Sherington's marriage proposal (she laughs at him-laughs!) he vows to marry the next female he encounters, who happens to be the young, penniless Miss Hero Wantage, who has adored him all her life. Whisking her off to London, Sherry discovers there is no end to the scrapes his young, green bride can get into, and she discovers the excitement and glamorous social scene of the ton. Not until a deep misunderstanding erupts and Sherry almost loses his bride, does he plumb the depths of his own heart, and surprises himself with the love he finds there. "Reading Georgette Heyer is the next best thing to reading Jane Austen." -Publishers Weekly Georgette Heyer (1902?1974) wrote over fifty novels, including Regency romances, mysteries, and historical fiction. She was known as the Queen of Regency romance, and was legendary for her research, historical accuracy, and her extraordinary plots and characterizations.

These are the Heyer books I have- i think quite a few courtesy of @mabell The ones I have not read yet are The Grand Sophy, Friday‘s Children, These Old Shades and Cotillion

TheAromaofBooks I very recently read The Grand Sophy, but otherwise am open to any of the others. I've actually been meaning to reread Cotillion, so that would be my top pick. 😁 12mo
julieclair Any of these would be fine with me! I have not read any of them. 12mo

I just wanted something fun to read and after aimlessly trawling though my TBR I realised that there's ALWAYS a solution to that problem and it's either Terry Pratchett or Georgette Heyer. This time I've gone for Heyer.

Mehso-so

Though not one of my favorite Heyer books, this one was especially charming because of its hopelessly naive young hero & heroine. It was refreshing to have a hero who may dress the part of a Regency Hero but was exactly what you‘d expect a barely-begun-his-twenties young adult to be, & a very young heroine who had spunk but not much gumption to back it up! It made for some comical dialogue & a cute, silly romp. ★★★☆☆.

1. The Most handsome Brittany you‘ll ever meet (Jaxson) 🐾
2. Homework, course work, and project work....oh! And how to train your dragon 🐉
3. Dog training, photography, scuba diving for some
4. Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington (too many things to see in each for me to limit it more than that 😜)
5. What was the last movie you saw?

madamereadsalot1 I don't watch a lot of movies, so it's been a while, but I did watch Dumplin' a couple months back. It was cute. The book was better. 6y
wordzie Black Panther about an hour ago on Netflix. Lol. 6y
ConfessionofaBookaholic @madamereadsalot1 I just watched that recently! I didn‘t get a chance to read the book but the movie was pretty cute. 6y

ConfessionofaBookaholic @wordzie lol, Netflix is my life if I‘m not careful, I really liked black panther. The take over the world scheme was a little cliché but I really liked the movie either way. 6y
madamereadsalot1 @ConfessionofaBookaholic you should definitely read it if you liked the movie. The movie is totally a "diet" or "light" version. Half the sweet stuff AND half the flavor. ? And some of the changes definitely took away from the sentimental "aww" worthy scenes. You never even got a chance to get to know Bo in the movie and he's such a sweet character! 6y
ConfessionofaBookaholic @madamereadsalot1 by your recommendation I‘m definitely adding it to my TBR list! 😊 6y
Jen_Reads If we are talking in theaters it was Jurassic World fallen Kingdom. I sadly don‘t get to the movies often. 6y
ConfessionofaBookaholic @Jen_Reads i totally get it. Jurassic world fallen kingdom was a doozy, I‘m still haven‘t finished figuring my feelings about that one, lol 6y
Lauredhel I rarely go to the movies but we got a voucher for Xmas. Went to the latest how to train your dragon 6y
ConfessionofaBookaholic @Lauredhel wasn‘t that the greatest way to end that series though? I saw it on Friday and loved it, probably the only case where the movie is better than the books 6y

Canndor I prefer stand alone books for the most part too. There are some series I love, but I usually pass on them. 6y
businessmermaid @Canndor My thoughts exactly 😊 6y

1. Teleport! Mind reading would be hell I think.
2. Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor (partway through, stopped to push on an audiobook due back at library)
3. Write more, procrastinate less. So far, mixed bag. Some really good, some really bad days, productivity wise.
4. Forensic Files and Friends. Downton Abbey and Mrs Maisel on Prime.
5. 🙌🙌🙌
