Prequel novella to the Good Daughter. Good Daughter was my first read from Slaughter &had me completely hooked on her writing. It was good to revisit the Charlie Quinn character earlier in her relationship with her husband. Quinn meets a teenage honor student/Girl Scout with a sob story & a sizable trust, gets maternal and takes her on as a client.
The conspiracy is top tier.

I didn't like it. Almost DNF.
Too predictable. I literally knew what was going to happen after listening to the first couple of pages. Because this is a prequel, I'm gonna give her another shot. I've heard great things about her.

This was a good book, but I wanted more of the story. I want to know what happens next. I'm disappointed in how abruptly this ended.

Since #TeamSlaughter won #Scarathlon2020, I thought it was finally time I read this author. I was going to start with The Good Daughter, but then saw this prequel.

Slaughter writes a great, page-turning thriller that kept me intrigued through the entire story. I'm excited to read The Good Daughter now.

A quick and engaging story about a 15 year old girl who asks a lawyer help her get legally emancipated from her grandparents, who are possibly abusive drug addicts who are using her for her trust fund. The questions keep coming as the story unfolds. Who has who‘s best interest at heart? 2 points for #teamtheme and 1 point for the post! #TeamSlaughter

Milkman has been on my radar for ages, & I read my first Slaughter on holiday (The Good Daughter) - really enjoyed it so trying this short one next!

I liked how it had some of the same characters in a few of her other books. The story was interesting but just ok. I enjoyed Karin Slaughter's other books more.

And that‘s a wrap for #4in48readathon I read 4 books in 2 days. Two were short, two were normalish length (about 300 pages). Every single one was good. I haven‘t read Karin Slaughter since the Grant County series because she made me mad. But this was good stuff and I‘ll be reading more. One of the most manipulative characters I‘ve ever read, I wonder if she‘ll come back to haunt Charlie. @Syndelle777

This is a novella from Karin Slaughter with some of the characters from The Good Daughter, I haven‘t got to it yet but it‘s only 130 or so pages so hopefully soon ! I think it‘s my only book with a heart on it ❤️#HeartsOnCover #HeartsAndHardcovers

Finished this up today. Pretty interesting especially considering how short it is. Should probably get around to The Good Daughter sometime soon.

Started this one on the way to work yesterday. The narrator is really good. I guess it‘s a good thing The Good Daughter has been sitting on my bookshelf, unread, for months, as this is apparently a prequel to it.

3 Stars - A short, but intriguing novella that gives the reader an additional glimpse at Charlie‘s life as a lawyer. Interesting story, but not as captivating as The Good Daughter. While the story had several twists I wasn‘t quite expecting, I found myself wishing it had more about Rusty and Sam.

This novella is a great prequel to The Good Daughter. Even though I read the books out of order, I really enjoyed it. It provided more of a view into Charlie‘s personal life and work as an attorney. Pictured are my layered pumpkin chocolate cheesecake pies. #audiobaking

This is a novella leading into Karin Slaughters new book A Good Daughter. I wasn‘t disappointed at all. Slaughter seems to be able to put just as much character development and story as she does in her full novels. The novella is a real page turner that keeps you guessing with plenty of twist and turns. I can‘t wait to go on and read the full novel now.

Excellent little lead-in to The Good Daughter which I hope to dive into next week... this installment is 13 years before the main story and I'm glad I picked it up- totally needed this to clean my palate this week. THIS is how to write a teenage psychopath.

I really like Slaughter. Her stories are always interesting. This book is a prequel to The Good Daughter, so I wanted to read it before I pick up that book.

Prequel to The Good Daughter. I bought it for 99 cents and thought it well worth the money, but most likely not necessary to the book at all. At 160 pgs, it was a nice introduction one of the major characters of The Good Daughter-to how she thinks and works, etc. I also love that it was a nice length for a "short."

I was surprised by several of the characters in here-I really liked that. Kept me on my toes.

(This is not a gritty, tough read.)
