I‘ve wanted to read Salman Rushdie for a while and I‘ve been told that the tagged book is a good place to start with this author. It‘s not the only one from him on my shelf though.

My first read by Salman Rushdie won't be my last. I went in soft for #AuthoraMonth and did not come away disappointed. Children's story be damned; I loved it for reminding me of how important stories are in our lives. It made me feel triumphant for teaching my students about the archetypal story pattern of all our lives: The Hero's Quest and that every story is the same story told in infinite variations. Thank you, Mr. Rushdie.
@Soubhiville
I have had *I am the Walrus* stuck in my head since starting the tagged book!
I really hope that we get to meet this mysterious character!
Can't imagine how much wackier this story can get though lol.

HERE WE GO! Been weirdly waiting for August all year. Note the bookmark in The Enchantress of Florence… 3rd time‘s the charm?

Last month's reading wrap up.
I am dubbing February Month of the Manga. Because I read A LOT of it lol. 20 books and more than half were manga. I fell into a rabbit hole on Manganato and now I wish I had discovered all this 10+ years ago. I would be so much more ahead. 😩
Favorite read was, The Shining, followed up with Haguya Kime (Moon Princess). The androgynous representation in Haguya Kime was *chefs kiss* exquisite.
#manga #monthlywrapup
I wouldn‘t really recommend it much, probably to a kid yes, it does open up the imagination a bit. The prose is simple, the theme is nice, but the ending was rushed.
I‘ve been meaning to read this for a while.
Sending prayers and thoughts of healing to Salman Rushdie.
Spine design matters. Case in point: the recently redesigned Penguin Black Classic spines. They have done away with the orange lettering for the author name which is now in white. I hate it. The majority of the time spine design is simply repeating the cover design. The 6 pictured books (Penguin Drop Caps, Harper Perennial Olive Editions, Everyman's Library) are deviations from this & I love them. More of this, please. @leahbergen
This is my ultimate favorite book. Whenever I am in a reading slump, I always come back to this one.
Delightful. I often laughed aloud. Felt like Phantom Toll Booth, Alice in Wonderland, and Little Nemo's Adventures in Slumberland all rolled into one!
Just a little gem I stumbled across while reading this book for potential teaching material. 💜

5* amazing book! A beautiful, dreamy, bizarre work honouring storytelling and imagination. It reminded me a lot of Alice in Wonderland in terms of how surreal it was, original and refreshing and not constrained by any logic at all, though the story never failed to make sense. The appendix on how the words were derived from Hindustani words and Indian cultural references was 💯💯💯 too

Final #BFC #BFCr4 Check-in! Can't believe we're done already! When's the next round?? 😁 I ran 4/4 times this week 🏃♀️💪 And finished my 9/9 books with the tagged #audiobook 📚🎧 It's been a good week and a good round! Thanks @wanderinglynn and my #RunningonReading team @BarbaraJean @Catlover23 @hermyknee ❤️🎉 #BookFitnessChallenge
I got in under the wire with my 24 hours of reading! It was a great weekend of reading, with tons of great progress on school readings, and several hours of fun reading squeezed in while cooking, eating, cleaning, running, taking the bus, etc. Finished and loved the 2 books on the top row. Loved reading with y'all and celebrating @MrBook ! 😊❤️🎉 #MrBook1inaMillion #readathon #LitsyPartyofOne #24B4Monday #catherbuddyread
Quick little morning #audiorun before getting ready to go to church! It was dim and foggy and cold outside, so I decided on the treadmill, especially since I still have a cough from my cold. Loving this audiobook still! 😍 15.5 hours for the #MrBook1inaMillion #readathon.

Went for an evening #audiorun on the treadmill (since it was already dark outside) and switched to some fiction for the first time in a week or so. This book is the perfect escape from all the academics! And it was so nice to run after having a bad cold all week. 💕💪🏃♀️😊

Great stress-relieving morning #audiorun! Love looking at the murals on the Ohlone Greenway. My last half mile was uphill and felt pretty challenging, but I ran by an unhoused man with whom I had exchanged smiles and waves at the beginning of my run, and he cheered me on enthusiasticly. He made me feel like I was running a race and near the finish line! I got that end-of-race burst of energy, and my last half mile ended up being my fastest. 😊
Dear Heather @Mynameisacolour, thank you so much for putting so much thought into this package. So thematic!! ❤️❤️💕I love everything in it! Firstly the book!!! 😍Can't wait to read it!!! And the bookmark which serves as a ruler too!! 😍😍 And the gorgeous card! So dreamy!! I'm gonna see if I can find a frame to put it in! I'm so touched! Tq, Heather... ❤️💕And @TheBookKeepers Amanda, THANK YOU for organizing #JustABookSwap! ❤️💕
My work day is over and this was such a fun way to pass the time. Neil Shah does an excellent job as narrator, with good voices for all of the characters. Now, I‘m going to try to finish at least one more book for 2018!
I grabbed today‘s Audible Daily Deal because I wanted something short that I might be able to finish at work today and I‘m pleasantly surprised by how much fun this is. The narrator is great and the story is very entertaining. It almost makes being at work on New Year‘s Eve tolerable. Almost.
This book was charming and beautiful. A quick read that took me forever because of the holidays haha.
Reading this as an adult was difficult. The various names that sounded similar to one another and the plot jumping around a bit made me struggle to navigate my way through this book. For children, this would be the perfect read. The wacky names of people and places, elements of magic, and the fun characters would be sure to keep a child interested. Not my favorite but still a good story.
I just gave up on House it Leaves. It never did grab my interest. Gonna start this one. Thanks again @vivastory for that secret Santa shipment 2-3 years ago :)
Rushdie, Rushdie, Rushdie. How do you do it? Always a magical time reading what you wrote.
This was such an odd book, I couldn't even finish it. I couldn't seem to get into it and I ended up bailing 1/4 of the way through.
This was recommended by a friend and I loved it! Very Arabian Night-esque with lots of humour, satire and #magic thrown in. Rushdie couldn't have given his son a better gift.
It's a story about a story, hence recommended for Littens who write.

‘Khattam-Shud,' he said slowly, 'is the Arch-Enemy of all Stories, even of language itself. He is the Prince of Silence and the Foe of Speech. And because everything ends, because dreams end, stories end, life ends, at the finish of everything we use his name. "It's finished," we tell one another, "it's over. Khattam-Shud: The End.‘

Posting because
1) It's a great cover &
2) It's Rushdie

I'm recycling an old #rockinmay post courtesy of @DivineDiana for #catsinthecradle. Rushdie wrote this one for his son while in hiding during the fatwa, so it seems to fit. And SR and the singer of today's tune have some bad blood between them so it works on that less heartwarming level if that's your preference. @Cinfhen
If I had given my daughter this book and told her to read it, she would have turned her nose up at it. So it rested quietly on the bookshelf for a few years, then lo and behold last night my daughter picked it out and started reading. And guess what? She likes it.
This book has a literary connection to the story of Aladdin because of the magical oil lamp that contains the Genie. Also connected by the magic carpet to Butt the Hoopoe because that is how both the ‘hero‘ characters are transported.#rockinmay #magiccarpetride
"It stood by a mournful sea full of glumfish, which were so miserable to eat that they made people belch with melancholy even though the skies were blue..." Loving this "children's" book #currentlyreading also love this illustration by Marika Chew
My favourite dedication can be found in my favourite Steinbeck - East of Eden. But my copy is not to be found (whoever borrowed it please raise your hand). So I present you a worthy runner up for Day 19 of #riotgrams #greatdedication. Rushdie's dedication in exile to his son "read, and bring me home to you"
Another great story from Salman Rushdie! This one is silly, fun, and full of puns. Definitely could be read in a sitting if you've got the time, and it will probably remind you of Alice in Wonderland... If she were transplanted to the heart of India.
So many options for today!! I'll post this one- good for adults, and I think it would be great to read to school aged children.

This was such a gorgeous, whimsical read. An adventure story where the main character is trying to help his father regain his storytelling ability by saving the poisoned sea of stories. I highly recommend it!
😍 This book 😍
😍😍😍
