October‘s #BookSpinBingo board. No bingo for the month, but I still marked off more than I have any other month this year. 😅
I didn‘t finish any books in September and then doubled my typical reading in October, so I swapped out the September space for an extra October one. 🤫😜🤣 Not that it matters, The Vaster Wilds is still haunting me daily and just might win the year… 😅❤️
#BookSpinBingo list for November. My main goal for the rest of the year is to get to a lot of the books I‘ve neglected from this year‘s events (BookSpin, Roll100, SeriesLove, etc.). I‘m WAY behind in my reading goal but I‘ve already read more books than I did in the past two years (individually), so honestly anything from here on out is a huge win. 😅❤️

Full disclosure, I haven‘t yet taken the time to do the deep dive on the music that inspired this novella. It might change my rating. For now, I‘m feeling a bit “meh”. I think that‘s more my fault for having different expectations of what it was going to be. It‘s a unique story of family, individuality, community, loneliness, needing to belong, the list goes on. It is impressive how many themes Solomon squeezed into such a short story.

This one truly surprised me. It is so haunting in its descriptions and prose. The terror of facing some supernatural evil that no one else believes in or sees, and having that compounded with how women have been treated for centuries… Absolutely chilling story. It does follow three different timelines and I know some people aren‘t fans of that sort of storytelling, but it‘s used so well here. The differing stories enrich each other rather ⬇️

I‘ll definitely need to read more of this series. This first installment does a good job of laying the groundwork of what seems to be a wacky, gory good time. I‘m interested to find out more about the little task force Chainsaw Man finds himself a part of and what exactly their impact on devils is. The artwork is great, I love the character designs.
My #DoubleSpin for October

This was going to be 5 ⭐️s with the unique lore and world building; the characters were so relatable and I was SO invested in them and their struggles. Then that ending comes and punches you right in the chest. I felt like the ending took away the whole point of the story. If there‘s ever a sequel, I will absolutely rush to snatch it up because I need closure. 😅🤣
Went to the pumpkin patch/corn maze earlier. The Wyrmling‘s napping on me now so I‘m starting this one that‘s been on my TBR for what seems like forever. Then it‘s off to my parents for stew and a fire pit with s‘mores.
❤️🥰❤️

I don‘t normally do .5 ratings, but this one is definitely better than a 3 but not quite a 4. I loved the unique lore and world building of this novel where zombies are sentient. Angel is a fun protagonist and I was absolutely rooting for her the whole way. The end felt rushed and I had figured out the “mysteries” pretty early on in the book. But I couldn‘t put it down and will get to the 2nd in the series sometime soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed this retelling of Poe‘s work. I tend to love the premise of gothic stories but end up let down by them. This one wasn‘t like that. I enjoyed the characters, especially their banter. Kingfisher does a wonderful job of creating a foreboding, damp, claustrophobic atmosphere that clings to the reader throughout.
I did find it funny that I kept thinking back to Mexican Gothic and then the author mentions it in the AN. 🍄❤️

I honestly loved this book. As a mom, I can say this played strongly on my fears of my child being stolen from me. I know I would go to hell and back to get him and keep him safe, but would I have the capabilities? I really loved the descriptive writing, the way Hill slowly builds up the suspense and makes the reader worry for the protagonists. I liked the characters, especially Lou. It got me in the feels a lot, especially in the end. ⬇️
My halfway points check-in for team #HexesandCrows for #HauntedShelf!
1.561 so far! Hoping for many more in the second half. ❤️

I really love this time travel/alternate history series! Chomping at the bit for the third one so I‘ll need to track that down asap. A LOT happens in this globe spanning epic w/ a large cast of characters, but it doesn‘t feel bogged down. I adore many of the characters (especially the Hollard siblings and their royal love interests 😉) and I think the author does a great job of not making the ancients stupid or inferior to the Nantucketers.
There were a few I left off because I wasn‘t sure if I‘ve actually seen the whole film or just some of it because of pop culture references. 😅
My random three:
The General (Buster Keaton‘s stunts are legendary)
Aliens
Evil Dead

Tagging anyone who feels confident in their scores! 😅
Still no bingo with my quarterly bingo. 😅 Here‘s hoping the rest of the year goes better. I don‘t know what system I‘ll choose to use next year, but I‘m definitely contemplating it…
My #BookSpinBingo board for Spooky month! The two with bat borders are my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin. I‘m very excited about October. Hoping to get plenty of good reads in.
1. I‘d like to say one of the novels, but Chainsaw Man keeps coming up in my thoughts. 😅
2. All baked goods are in danger when I‘m around, from here to New Year‘s. 🤣
3. Pumpkin patch, Halloween street festival, etc. This year will be the first year The Wyrmling can go Trick or Treating for real, so I‘m super excited about that!
4. They‘re pretty equal. Pumpkin spice in the mornings, apple cider in the evenings.
#HauntedShelf #HexesandCrows
My two recs for #HauntedShelf because I‘m completely incapable of narrowing down any opinion to a single thing.
Desperation was the first Stephen King I ever read. I was a completely different person after that. Should do a reread of this one soon.
World War Z is my most reread book ever. I absolutely love it. It‘s nothing like the movie. I loved the journalistic twist and the details and cast of characters makes it all so rich and fascinating.
I‘m late hopping on the #HauntedShelf bandwagon! There‘s still time to sign up if you‘re like me and didn‘t realize Halloween is literally breathing down our necks. 😅🎃🖤

My #BookSpinBingo list for October! I‘m so excited, I made a fresh list for the spooky month and have decided I‘ll actually participate in the bingo board for this month too. Time for the best time of year!!!!
🖤🎃🖤
@Fortifiedbybooks here is your #TrappedinaSpookyHouse list! Sorry for the wait, you had so many good books on your list and I kept going back and forth between a few. I really hope you have fun with the ones I chose! 🖤
In a Dark, Dark Room is the first book I can remember being obsessed with back in 1st grade. 🥰
So excited to start off my birthday month with these two that have been on my TBR for a good long while! NOS4A2 is the only September book club read that I own. The other book clubs I participate in are reading books that my library doesn‘t have available so I‘ll have a lot more reading time to devote to my own personal stack. Although I‘ve been enjoying the book clubs, I‘ve been neglecting the books I own too much this year. 😅

Unpopular opinion, but I really didn‘t like this book. Ish is an absolutely insufferable protagonist and I couldn‘t connect with him or any of the other members of The Tribe. Every time I thought something interesting was actually going to happen, it doesn‘t or it‘s skipped over. Ish‘s self-importance and how he looks down on everyone around him drove me insane.
I was THRILLED when a glimmer of conflict came but that was also quickly ⬇️
September‘s #BookSpinBingo list. Can‘t believe August went by in the blink of an eye. 😱

Little underwhelmed. This was another one where at the beginning, I really thought I‘d love it. The author‘s descriptive writing easily creeped me out. The unique lore that was brought into it had me intrigued. But by the 3/4 point, it felt like a lot of that was abandoned. I still don‘t understand the real motive of almost anything any of the antagonists did. The leshii seemed to just be a spooky plot device. Much of the horror came from ⬇️

One of the most beautiful, poignant novels I have ever read. This one will stick with me for a long, long time. I‘m so grateful for book clubs/buddy reads because they expose me to the magic of something I never would have had on my radar otherwise. This will be another one I need to hunt down and own. Wonderful message of what it means to truly know and embrace your place in nature. It‘s impacted me greatly and I want everyone to read it.
My favorite time of year is coming fast! I always love the Litsy goings on during the spooky season. @PuddleJumper is doing a fun event where people will be paired up and choose each other‘s reading lists. Check out the original post for the sign up link, open until September 15th. Bring on the spooky reads!!!
🖤🎃🖤
1. Every day. It‘s a bit sporadic ever since I hatched The Wyrmling. I have to take my reading in snippets throughout the day so I can‘t binge a whole book anymore.😅 Usually I average 30 pages in a sitting these days.
2. Bluefeather Fellini in the Sacred Realm.🤬
3. Two that have stuck with me over the years are Lord of the Flies, and Catcher in the Rye. I begged my husband to name our kid Holden. I lost. I‘ll just name a future dog after him.🤣

A much better installment to the TNG book series. I enjoyed the focus on Geordi and Data, especially the use of Geordi‘s visor! The moral questions brought up throughout the story were intriguing and made me think of a sci fi classic I read earlier this year, Way Station by Simak. But in this story, the threat of an alien conglomerate enforcing a handicap on a planets ability to govern itself and reach for the stars has become reality.

This was a “bought it for the cover” choice and honestly I‘m happy with that decision. The story‘s a little dated but that sort of just adds to the fun of it. I kind of wish it was a longer book and that we got to spend more time with the characters exploring the huge planet and its extremely varied cultures. I figured out one plot twist extremely early but there were others that kept me on my toes. Will be eager for another read by Vance.
Catching up on reviews.😬

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Can‘t wait to read more of Asimov‘s Robot series. It‘s more of a collection of short stories or even thought experiments. My favorite of them all was “Liar”. It didn‘t end up how I thought it was going to at first. The progression through the stories was nice, it kept them all connected. It definitely makes you think about the future of humanity and how it‘s interlinked with AI.

My books are all over the house. My typical shelves (I have six) are arranged by genre, alphabetical by author, and then chronological/series. I recently separated my paperbacks from my hardcovers and double shelved the paperbacks to save space. Hubby made risers at work to elevate back row of paperbacks. The shelf above my bed is my active TBR; the books pulled from the other shelves in the house and next in line to be read.⬇️
I‘m behind on a lot right now. Here‘s my August list for #BookSpinBingo. Debating on hunkering down over the next few months and just focusing on all of these that have been chosen over the past year that I still haven‘t gotten around to. We‘ll see.
☕️ So far so good.
☕️ Going to see Deadpool and Wolverine with my hubby today and then Twisters with my mom tomorrow. It‘ll be the most time I‘ve spent in a movie theatre in one weekend since I was a teen. 🤣
☕️ Going to try some new recipes for dinner and take The Wyrmling to a park we‘ve never been to.
☕️ Halloween merch is showing up at work, so horror has been on my mind. Started brainstorming what my fall/October reads will be this year. 🖤🎃
1. I wanted to reference dragons and being a bookworm, so I used the Old English wyrm. Then I was being facetious and decided to use as many synonyms for “big” as I could before using up the character limit. 😅
2. I don‘t typically listen to audiobooks. I honestly wish I could, it‘s just my mind wanders too easily and I snap back to myself and am completely lost.
3. Last book I finished was HEX by Thomas Olde Heuvelt.
#WondrousWednesday
1. No. I‘ve never been much for sports and the only one I actually enjoy isn‘t played in my country. So no one else really knows about it. 😅
2. The Only Good Indians- basketball plays a surprisingly significant role.

The scariest parts were the horrible townsfolk. The last few chapters are filled with some truly chilling violence. There were a lot of questions I had throughout and none of them are really answered in the end. Bit frustrated with how the story was told. The author originally wrote it in Dutch and then rewrote the ending when it was translated to English. I don‘t know if that impacted the story for me since I don‘t read Dutch. 🤷♀️
Negative stars!! If I could go back in time and stop myself from wasting time reading this, I would. I HATE this book.
If you want my full opinion, here‘s the link to my Goodreads. Litsy doesn‘t have the character space for this level of rant.

Omg! Guys! Look what I found in one of my library loans! This one came from several towns over. I wonder if they do this with all of their books? I love it! It gave me such a nostalgic feeling when I opened it. Can‘t wait to add mine once I finish it. ❤️
There aren‘t words for how I‘m feeling about the book I‘m reading right now. Two characters just decided to make love in the middle of a shootout and the girl got shot right through the eye socket. What the fuck did you THINK was going to happen?!?!?!
My bingo board for July-September. Modified a few spots again. Trying to find the perfect balance between Litsy and BookTube events, buddy reads and book clubs. 😅
I‘m honestly surprised at how this bracket has been turning out. 😅 Halfway through the year! Hard to believe. So many good reads. So many more to come. ❤️
My second quarterly bingo board. I don‘t think I‘ll finish my current read before July 1st. I‘ve definitely been enjoying doing my bingo boards like this. Now for July-September!
Library holds came in today!!! 🤘😆🤘
My choice off my wishlist is Making it So: A Memoir by Patrick Stewart. ❤️ Thank you @TheSpineView for doing a giveaway! ❤️
#Two4Tuesday #TuesdayGiveaway
My selection for July. I haven‘t been keeping up with these as well as I had planned. I‘ve joined multiple readalongs/buddy reads (which are all worth it, but tend to take me away from this list). Might get to Queer Magic before the end of this month, so I‘ll put a different selection up if I do. Good luck everyone!

I really enjoyed this one. The descriptions of the tech and time dilation were fun. I honestly liked Will for the most part despite his personal hang ups on a few things. I appreciate the fact that the violence/war wasn‘t glorified. The changes Earth went through over the course of the story were fascinating. There were a few things I rolled my eyes at, but they‘re mostly products of the time the book and author come from.
