A lot has happened since the last time (~7 months ago) I posted- life got very exciting yet very hectic for me so I took a hiatus.

- We had to move in w/my (future) brother in law for some time

- Had my condo on the market.. & went to settlement Friday!! 😅🤗

'Wayward Pines' with a touch of 'Stranger Things' vibes thrown in- in a GREAT way.
Definitely has a decent creepy factor & evoked very vivid images that will stay with me for some time.
One of the things I 🖤'd the most & which worked to the strength of this haunting tale, is the author's great integration of historical witch folklore & atmospheric isolation alongside modern day technology & social media. Fabulously creepy fall read!

The NOT so good news- I really wanted to like this but both the story & narrator just didn't do anything for me. Extremely flat narration, & yes I get that that's kind of Leah's 'vibe', but there was no affect in the narrator's voice at ALL.😑
Or maybe #YA contemporaries aren't my thing?🤔

While it was wonderfully nostalgic to revisit Salem, the Denisson family, & of course- the fabulously wicked Sanderson sisters; sadly this didn't bring or add anything of note.

Flat undeveloped characters & an underwhelming storyline, I just went through the motions of turning pages it seemed. The idea of this was more exciting than the actual delivery IMO.....Bummer. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Running my personal errands while the beau is at work, and that included at Target run to pick up these wonderful makeup wipes I recently discovered.

A wonderful introspective & heartfelt memoir in which Fields reflects on it all unflinchingly, raw & sincere in her assessment of not only her life & her craft, but most profoundly of herself & all that she's lived through, strived for, & deservedly achieved. An exceptional memoir whose last chapter & epilogue, utterly gutted me! 😪🤧

A solid #memoir, whose strength lies in its solid depiction of how the immigration struggle effects the children, not only with feelings of abandonment when they are left behind, but how those emotional scars can turn into resentment which in turn effect the parent-child relationship when they‘re reunited. While also having to struggle balancing assimilating to the U.S. while not losing sight of their culture & traditions from their home country.

Just made the 3🌟 mark, but barely.

Here's the thing:
➖ Way too many POV's throughout
➖ The shifts of POV's were completely abrupt & without indicators, therefore EXTREMELY disorienting & disruptive- especially on audio! 🤯

➕But Novik masterfully creates such vibrant & rich atmosphere that you truly feel like you're there, in that far away land feeling every bite of cold.

Taking advantage of the sun finally coming out to read my bookclub book in the courtyard at work while on my break.

It's a tough look into the toll immigration takes on the kids that are left behind while parents cross, as well as the struggle to rebuild bonds once reunited, very good so far.
Turns out it was the 'One Book One Maryland' read in 2014!

Absolutely wonderful from beginning to end & completely worthy of all the praise & accolades it's received. Equal measures heartwarming, hilarious, inspirational & informative, this audiobook should be required listening for all (high school age+).
A natural born story teller, listening to him tell his story made this all the more lovely as he does voices/accents for his family members.

Listening to Trevor's wonderful #memoir as I deprocess these books for discarding- a necessary evil in the library world to make room on the shelves for more titles.

But no worries, they'll be placed on our "Wild Books" cart outside where both patients & staff can pick as many as they like to take, like a free little library. ?

The premise of this 📖 checks SO many boxes for me: inheritance of a bookstore, family secrets, quirky book store staff, literary scavenger hunt (OMG YES!); which is why I had been hoping to LOVE this rather than just LIKE it.

I did enjoy it & yes it even gave me some feels, but the writing was...meh.

And the big central family 'mystery'? It was absurdly predictable- I guessed it w/in the first 3 chapters.

Nice & cozy enough.

I wish I could say that this #audiobook was as sweet & enjoyable as my Krispy Kreme doughnut was(😋), but to be honest, I found it nowhere nearly as entertaining as, 'The Wedding Date' and in my opinion, hardly believable.
I just didn't buy into these characters nor their attraction to one another unfortunately. 🙁

Both touching & heartbreaking, Contreras truly captured the atmosphere & sense of foreboding that permeated that era in Colombia with beautiful yet simple prose, told through the eyes of two young girls from vastly different socio economic backgrounds. As someone who grew up in a Colombian family, this truly resonated for me. A very strong debut. Bravo Contreras❣👍

Just finished while waiting for my dr. appointment.

This was GREAT.

It's been a while since a #CrimeThiller has captivated me like this did. From the continuously twisty plotline to the unlikely yet perfectly paired PI duo of Cap & Vega, I couldn't stop listening. Hoping Luna will write more mysteries with Vega as her lead character. There's so much more to her mysterious background that I want to know!

I was completely entertained & flew through this one.

Mr. Brown does it again & I'm not mad at him. 🤗

Told in a conversational style, the Gaines tell stories about their early yrs. & how their major milestones & setbacks effected them not only on an individual level but also as a couple & growing family. But tbh, this fell pretty flat due to its lack of depth. Even just a wee bit of deeper introspection would've helped.
For me, the true highlights here were learning about how & why Joanna's design aesthetic came to be & changed over the years.
