Ancient dark magic mixed with murder mystery – why haven't I read this sooner?
Such an elaborate world created by LB yet again. I was in love with the characters and hooked from the beginning. There was always something exciting happening, the story never got boring. I'm off reading the sequel! 🐍🔮
A girl travels with her yellow robot across 1997 America where society has collapsed thanks to some VR-like helmets.
The story feels quite unfinished and full of gaps, but it's really awesome nonetheless. If you like science fiction and/or dystopian and/or graphic novels, this is a must read. The artwork is eerily beautiful.

Lane Winslow, ex WWII intelligence officer, is swept up in a murder investigation again, this time because of her Russian language skills.
I love the characters of these stories, and the beautiful setting of British Columbia.

A book first published in 1987 that got a new edition with a lovely cover and illustrations.
Hungarian folklore meets Tolkien's world. A lovely fairy tale that I'll definitely read to my kids one day.

“People like to say it takes a certain type of person to do this job, a special person. They're probably right, just not in the way they think. Medics don't have to be heroic or tough or even good people. They simply have to enjoy the madness.“

This is a must read for all horror lovers. I think my favorite was the Romanian one.

Well this is the second Ishiguro book I can't finish. I really liked Never Let Me Go but this one and The Unconsoled are just too abstract for me I guess. Gave up at page 150.
I'm not sure if it was the writing or the translation that felt a bit weak, and maybe the romance was a bit too much for me but this was just an average 3-star read for me.

Another neat little mystery solved by Maisie Dobbs, psychologist and investigator.

“And I twisted myself about like the twisted ones.“
I guess this line will stay in my head for a long time 😅 this book was pretty creepy.

Current #audiostitching project is an easy little kitten. 🪡
Very well researched book about a really interesting person.
“I‘ve always been self-conscious about interviews, about my thinness, my tallness, my unattractiveness. My success — it still bewilders me.“

I really enjoyed these short stories about the gods of Asgard.
“Even the gods cannot change destiny.“
Pictured is my cat Loki, who is not as bad as his namesake 😄

Finished this one too 🪡
Currently without an audiobook, recommend me something! 🎧

What do you call a chunkster in audio format? 🎧 I guess this was one! An epic fantasy story that didn't blow my mind but was a pleasant read nonetheless. SK really can write anything.

I'm becoming quite fond of SK's non-supernatural novels. He can create suspense from ordinary things just the same. And his characters are always so lovable and relatable.
Current #audiostitching project just finished 😊🦊📚

Dublin, World War I and Spanish flu epidemic. Nurse / midwife Julia Power works on a maternity / fever ward with women sick with the flu and giving birth.
It was quite interesting to read as a nurse and primigravida myself 😄 I enjoyed both the medical aspects and the characters.
Current #audiostitching project: still unrecognizable 😅

I really enjoyed this eerie, atmospheric mystery novel set in the Outer Hebrides. I'm glad I chose the audiobook format so that I could hear all the cool Gaelic and Old Norse words pronounced properly. The story was also enchanting and held some unforeseen twists.

SM is an amazing writer and an even more amazing person. The “about the author“ page she wrote about herself at the end of this book makes me adore her. This story was twisted and wicked and creepy – so it was awesome! The characters were unique and lovable. Great fantasy / horror book.

If you're familiar with the books of MB, you'll know what to expect: a strong female character emerging from the shadows of history and making an impression on the world. This one's about Hedy Lamarr, a beautiful Austrian lady who made a difference not only with her famous movies but also with something less expected.

Final book of the Mist trilogy. Just like the first two, this was also full of magic and evil and adventurous, brave youngsters. 💜

I liked this one a bit more than the first book. The ending was a bit too dramatic for me though.
The writing also felt more like the Cemetery of Forgotten Books in this one. 💕
#LitsyLoveReads #spanish #ya
I'm in love with this cover!
It's noticeable that it's an earlier work than the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, but it's still very Zafón. 💕 This was a book that I'll keep for my children to read.

'The novel ends with one of the most reverberating shocks in modern crime fiction.'
Well I guess the problem is with me then. The twist at the end really is neat, but I didn't enjoy the whole of the book. Instead of being intrigued and interested I was mostly annoyed and frustrated. I didn't like the detective and I wasn't much impressed with the writing (maybe the translation wasn't the best either). ⬇️
Evelyn Hugo is a strong and badass woman who quickly learnt how to grab life by the balls and take things for herself, make herself great. She also hurt a lot of people on the way to fame. I think her story is interesting and educational for all women.
The ending wasn't a huge 'omg' for me, but it was a nice read.
Well, I don't know what to say. I think it was the cover that drew me in first (so pretty), and the whole premise was really interesting, but then some major plot holes started to appear and I wasn't really satisfied with the ending. ☹️
I enjoyed this book a lot. It was engaging, funny and exciting every step of the way.
I was quite satisfied with the movie too, although it wasn't as good as the book obviously.
This was an interesting and informative book about a piece of history I didn't know much about. Off to watch the movie! 🍿
Finished this audiobook while painting my little fox. 🦊☕ I kinda like those King books that have nothing to do with the supernatural.

“The world is a dark place, full of many kinds of wolves.“
I think this one was pretty weak compared to The Girl on the Train.
This book just didn't really take me with it, it was kinda meh.
My 2023 books, 55 in total. Let 2024 begin 🎉 Happy New Year to everyone! 🥂
"When you‘re told what to do every second of your existence, change is terrifying."
I'm loving this series ?? and they're making it into a TV show!

"Who knew being a heartless killing machine would present so many moral dilemmas."
#murderbot #scifi
Murderbot hacks its own governor module which means it doesn't have to obey orders anymore and protect the people it is supposed to protect as a SecUnit. But it doesn't care much for murder especially after finding out it can now access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. "As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure."
I enjoyed this short one immensely.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Kayleigh works at a social media platform as a moderator, reviewing uploaded content and deciding what can stay up and what has to be removed – she watches hundreds of videos depicting violence, child abuse, animal abuse, self harm and acts of terrorism every day. It's an interesting premise and I really liked the way this book was written, but it ended so abruptly and without any real closure. 😔

Weird little short stories by the author of #TenderIstheFlesh, the most gruesome and disgusting book I've ever read (and loved it). There were 4 or 5 good ones, the rest was a bit too abstract for my taste.
