mcctrish Poor Mina 😱 I‘ve got Backstreet Boys playing in my head 🎶 I may run and hide when you‘re screaming my name 🎶 Drac singing boy band tunes to the boy band chasing him down 1mo
CatLass007 It really had to hit these idiot men getting their noses rubbed in it to finally realize what‘s going on. 1mo

rubyslippersreads So Dracula doesn‘t have to snooze in his coffin all day? (Or should I say, one of his coffins?) ⚰️ 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly Gotta love/hate how Arthur‘s title conveniently makes so many things easy. People breaking their own rules for him! 1mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig This is where I lose any sympathy I had for Jan. It doesn't matter Max is a murderer, what's important is HE DIDN'T LOVE REBECCA! She becomes a bit like Rebecca in that she doesn't care about anything except what she wants. I could see her going over the edge in later years and murderibg Max because she thinks he doesn't love her enough. 7mo

BarkingMadRead @Crinoline_Laphroaig that‘s a really good point, it shows just how much she hasn‘t grown up! 7mo
julieclair Whoa! Didn‘t see that one coming! And Jan… she‘s a woman obsessed… it‘s like the knowledge that Max didn‘t love Rebecca is pulling her back from tipping over the edge of madness. 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly Augh… I was afraid she was going to try to protect him. I hope she fails. Will they find the bullet in the ship? It must be somewhere, so it‘s either in her body or in the cottage. But her body has decomposed (I think the cop said it was skeletal), so the bullet could have fallen somewhere they can‘t find it… (edited) 7mo
5feet.of.fury Yeah this is wild, she gets on board with the cover up wayyyy too quickly 7mo
IndoorDame How is having someone else‘s baby the one thing about living with her that tips it over the edge!!!!??? That would seriously NOT be my biggest problem if she were my wife! 7mo
ElizaMarie I had thought Rebecca was a cheater when they talked about these long nights in the cottage. Am I the only one that‘s okay with murder!? Ha. I mean. Not to say murder is super okay, but she did back him into a corner. And —- she was evil and… you are “allowed” to kill the antichrist. Right!? #NoItsJustMe 7mo
Roary47 @IndoorDame I agree, why is this the straw for him. I‘m thinking it was the delivery. @ElizaMarie I‘m with you. More a take down would have been more preferred, but your right he was backed into a corner with pure evil. If he wasn‘t backed into a corner I see that he could have showed her true colors. Exposed her infidelity. Something. 7mo
Ruthiella All I can say is keep reading folks! I have my own ideas about Rebecca‘s motivations. I also noted Jan‘s primary focus now of being truly loved and I think I would have had the same blind obsession at 21 or 22. (edited) 7mo
ElizaMarie @Roary47 Yes. like the question: “Would you go back in time and kill baby Hitler?“ I am guessing, yes.

But I agree. If she wasn't so cocky with her evilness. I am sure Max would have had no choice but to get divorced from her eventually. But, she was slipping up so much, it was going to all come out what type of person she was eventually.
7mo
Bookwormjillk This is my 3rd time reading and for some reason I remembered this as the end of the book, but we still have a ways to go. So hard to stop today. 7mo
willaful @IndoorDame It's because the baby would inherit Manderley. It's all about the property. 7mo
willaful @ElizaMarie That seemed implausible to me too. I'm sure Max could've found evidence 7mo
dabbe @Ruthiella Rebecca truly egged him on; it seemed as if she wanted to get as big a rise out of him as she could. As you so eloquently said, #keepreadingfolks! 🤩 7mo
dabbe @willaful Agree 💯. Maxim loves Manderley more than anyone--even the narrator. His de Winter pride is at stake. 7mo

Ruthiella I‘m thinking back and do we have any real confirmation of his initial preference for Kitty except as per Kitty‘s interpretation? 🤔. Also, anybody catch the return of Isabella Thorpe? #Ohnoshedidnt 1y
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella I believe it‘s all been Kitty and Emma saying so, I don‘t remember him ever showing any interest 1y
mcctrish #kittyisthenewlydia this chapter has reached a feverish pitch #whohascaughtmrpriceseye can Mr Moreland make an appearance? #theresgoingtobeaballatpemberley I‘m getting beauty and the beast vibes 🎶 tale as old as time 🎶 ( for the ball when Georgiana will realize Mr Price has eyes for her ) 🎶barely even friends and then somebody bends unexpectedly 🎶 1y
TheAromaofBooks @mcctrish - Thank you for that perfection 😂 1y
dabbe Elizabeth seems to be the “Emma“ in this book. And now I can't get the song “Matchmaker“ or “Beauty and the Beast“ out of my head! 🤣 1y

willaful As we thought! I think it's being set up for Kitty to not be the right one for him, but on the other hand, I can't see her being the right one for James either and she has to marry somebody! #womenssphere #jk 1y
Cuilin Georgiana seems a bit smitten with Price. Who will Moreland prefer? Hmm 1y

mcctrish Is it just me or was Kitty over the top? She loooovvveeess Price, but first thing she‘s doing is forbidding him from setting sail?! Sounds like she will have a marriage like her parents, all snips and barbs. If I was WP I‘d rather someone who was interested in my travels and happy enough to amuse one self #makesgoodchoiceswilliamprice #iskittythenewlydia 1y
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I was thinking the same. If he was trying to decide which to choose, I think he would go for the girl who supports him! 1y
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish she does seem like the new Lydia! 1y
willaful @mctrish I think it makes sense that Kitty is still Kitty-ish. She was always heavily influenced by Lydia and a complete turnaround seems more unlikely.
1y
dabbe @willaful Why can't Kitty live at Pemberley and be mentored by Elizabeth and/or Georgianna? Seems like a big enough place. Or am I way out of line with that idea? Glad she didn't go traipsing after Lydia this time. 1y
willaful @dabbe I sort of thought she had. Maybe her mom wanted to keep her home. 1y
willaful @dabbe Yes, she did. “Kitty, to her very material advantage, spent the chief of her time with her two elder sisters. In society so superior to what she had generally known, her improvement was great. She was not of so ungovernable a temper as Lydia; and, removed from the influence of Lydia‘s example, she became, by proper attention and management, less irritable, less ignorant, and less insipid.“ 1y

Ruthiella We most certainly met Polly again! But that neither Lucy nor Dr. John with their amazing deductive powers notice it???? Also, WHAT A COINCIDENCE! 😂 (edited) 2y
See All 13 Comments
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella right? And is this another case of Lucy keeping stuff to herself? 2y
peanutnine @BarkingMadRead I'm also curious if she knows and hasn't told the reader yet. I feel like Polly may have made the connection though... 2y
Bookwormjillk Of course it‘s Polly again! 2y
RebelReader When she said “where‘s my father? I get so anxious”. That was classic Polly. She could have changed that much that they wouldn‘t recognize her could she? 2y
Clare-Dragonfly PAULINA IS BACK!!! I didn‘t really get the whole Vashti thing. I suppose that was meant to be Sarah Bernhardt? And yeah, are we meant to think that none of them recognize each other? I‘d assume Lucy recognizes her except that she refers to her and her father as “strangers.” And it seems highly unlikely that Paulina wouldn‘t recognize them, but she says nothing! What is with these people seeing childhood friends and not saying anything?! 2y
suvata Oh joy, Polly‘s back! 2y
Bklover I wish they‘d quit doing that! (Bringing people in and not saying who they are) 2y
KristiAhlers Yeah I‘m actually perplexed by this. And I agree @Bklover it‘s getting rather annoying as I‘m thinking I think I know who they are but if the characters don‘t maybe I don‘t. 🙄🤣 2y
SarahBookInterrupted This is so weird. It was obvious that it‘s Polly and very strange that Lucy and Dr.John didn‘t know. I‘m sure her father hasn‘t changed that much. 2y

Chapter 9: cattiness abounds when rumors fly about Mrs G, and Gil is mad at everyone! #butaretheytrue #timewilltell #pemberlittens #chapteraday

julieclair Ugh. Cattiness. Why are people always inclined to believe the worst? 3y

Bklover Gilbert is sooooo self centered! Even when it sounds like he‘s being a decent human being he then throws in a comment that reminds you what a jerk he is! 3y
Bookwormjillk I almost for a minute liked Gil here but then he opened his mouth 😂 3y
Chili @Bookwormjillk 🤣so true!! He‘d be much more likable if he sat in the corner and didn‘t speak. He definitely needs to get off his high horse. 3y
