A Man Called Ove | Fredrik Backman

The books 📚 I packed for our family holiday🏞🏙:

- A Man Called Ove (because Sweden 🇸🇪)
-The Bear 🐻 and the Nightingale (because Russia)
-The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (because traveling 🧳)
-How to be both (just because)

I also have a few other books on my kindle which I haven‘t read it yet, so I should be safe 👌.

1. I've moved exactly 20 times.
2. My furthest move was 4,000 miles from Boston to Lucca, Italy.
3. I had 16 boxes of books, plus a stack I put in suitcases.
4. I now have a home & it survived Hurricane Harvey, so I hope to stay put for a while.
5. Yay. I suggest packing the boxes yourself & marking every box with a description of what is in it. Then have movers come to do the actual hauling.
@JoScho

JoScho Wow Boston to Italy! 😊❤️📦 7y

I just moved about 6 weeks ago, so this is fun!! 1) 3 times, this last time we had lived at the place 35 years . 2) From the far West Side of Chicago to the far south east side of Chicago. 3) Maybe about 15 or close to 20, including games and old notebooks and journals 4) I thought the last place was my forever home, lol, we only have a year lease at this place, but hopefully we can stay a lot longer!! 5) Boyfriend rented a UHaul he hurt his back!

JoScho Thanks for playing 😊❤️📦 7y

1. 5 times as an adult
2. 375mi
3. Idk.. 15
4. Forever home 🏡
5. Nay. I wouldn‘t trust movers not to cause damage
#packingdistraction @JoScho

JoScho Yay for forever homes 🏠❤️ 7y
tammysue @JoScho No fun moving but good luck with the packing! 😀😘 7y

1. Four
2. 31 miles (Closest move was one floor up in the same apartment building!)
3. When we moved last year, I shuttled books in a large box on a cart on about a dozen or more trips up to our current apartment. Packing and then unpacking books within a ten minute span is the pits.
4. Probably will look to buy a condo or house in the next couple of years. 🤞🏻
5. Never had movers but will probably invest in some for the next one. 🤑

JoScho Thanks for playing 😊❤️📦 7y

I want so badly to move right now that I'm even almost envious of your packing. Almost. 😉
1. 6 times as a kid, twice as an adult
2. 2000 miles
3. Last time I moved, there were something like 52 boxes
4. Moving again, I hope. The house we're in atm doesn't work for our family at all.
5. Heck YES.

JoScho Thanks for playing 😊❤️😊 7y

1. 9 as an adult.
2. From Jackson, MS to SLC, UT
3. 10?
4. I really hate moving so I‘d like to stay where I am for a long time. However, if I had the chance to move to the country and not have to commute downtown, I‘d consider moving again.
5. Yay! I‘ve never don‘t it but I‘d love to!

@JoScho #packingdistraction - I feel your pain. We moved last summer. 😬

1. I never moved as a kid, but my husband and I have moved 8 times in 16 years. All were across several states except the last one which was just 3 miles. 😆

2. SLC to Nashville (1300mi)

3. 20ish

4. We‘re tired of moving, but who knows?! We‘re open to new experiences.

5. YES

BkClubCare Hell YES to that all caps yes for #5. Your moving counts are significant. 7y
britt_brooke @BkClubCare Movers are SO worth it!! 7y
JoScho Thanks for playing 😊❤️📦 7y
Reviewsbylola Wow, you all are brave. I haven‘t moved since 2004 and I hope I don‘t have to move for at least another 14 years. 😂 7y
britt_brooke @Reviewsbylola My husband was in the army for 8 years so we didn‘t have a choice, but once he got out (9 years ago), we kept it going. 😬 I swear, we truly got used to it, but we‘re really tired of it now. 7y

1). As an adult: 6 times
2). Physically: Sydney to Shanghai. Metaphysically: Shanghai to Mumbai.
3). Boxes? Not sure but could only move 200 Books to Shanghai. I‘ve gone a tad nuts here which will be interesting for our next move!
4). Yep, at least two more moves in my near-ish future and they‘ll both be inter-country moves.
5). OH. HELL. YES. Also movers who pack for you (& are paid for by someone else. Gotta be an upside to this expat gig!)

JoScho Those are some big moves! 7y
DebbieGrillo 200 boxes or books? 7y
GlassAsDiamonds @JoScho yeah .... if you‘d asked me 6yrs ago if it was even remotely likely, I‘d have said no!! My best packing tip is to buy yourself a few treats/ presents like a book you haven‘t read, a really beautiful mug and say a bathmat you‘ve been craving then immediately pack them something for each room but don‘t use them, pack them. That way, when you‘re unpacking, there‘s a fun reward for getting through the boxes for each room 😊😊😊😊 7y

GlassAsDiamonds @DebbieGrillo 😂😂😂 Books... but if they were smallish boxes, I could have cracked that if they‘d let me!!!! (China heavily regulates Books coming in - in addition to avoiding “banned” books and genres (no religion, law, sci-fi, dystopian, politics, philosophy, unapproved maps etc., I was required to supply the authorities with a list of each book by genre, title and author and they still went through every single box! 😡😡😡😡😡). 7y
JoScho I love that tip! Thanks 😊❤️ 7y
rjsthumbelina @GlassAsDiamonds you can't read sci-fi??? 7y
rjsthumbelina @GlassAsDiamonds follow up question: is fantasy off limits as well? 7y
GlassAsDiamonds @rjsthumbelina basically nope, no legal sci-fi (& there are multiple levels of banned lists you need to try and comply with)! Some fantasy was theoretically okay but the standard they generally use to ban stuff is if it would “corrupt the morals of the youth” which included everything from time travel to talking animals to violence to any LGBT representation.... At one point, Alice in Wonderland was banned. Now Winnie the Pooh is...🤦🏻‍♀️ 7y
rjsthumbelina @GlassAsDiamonds Whoa! I wouldn't be able to live there! Makes me think about the little things we take for granted - the US is a shit show, but at least I can read what I want! And Winnie the Pooh?! What did Winnie ever do wrong? 7y
GlassAsDiamonds @rjsthumbelina yeah, small things eh? 😊 Part talking animals but mostly because someone decided Winnie the Pooh was a nick name for the currently president Xi Jinping so now they‘re worried about it being political discourse ...🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I gather it‘s getting even worse because they‘re now even limiting store imports: only 100 foreign titles per YEAR including kids books! It was NOT an easy place to live & I‘m glad we‘re out.😊 7y
