#LitsyConfession Last November (11 months ago!) the lovely @heidifk had a #giveaway for this book. The winner was to read it and pass it along, but I put it on my shelf and neglected it. The giveaway is open until 11:59pm Wednesday, Oct. 3rd. US only.

SexyCajun I‘m still enjoying this book and I intend to read til the end of it! 😬😬 6y
Karkar This is my favorite book! I loved getting to reread it😍 I was reading it when everyone at work had a cold and every time they sneezed I was a bit freaked out. 6y
DGRachel And I‘ll start us off with a #LitsyConfession. I bailed at around page 327. I tried listening on audiobook and the narrator was okay, but the story just felt like it wasn‘t going anywhere and was taking an insanely long time to do so. I didn‘t care about any of the characters that were still alive at that point, and just couldn‘t force myself to keep going. I doubt I‘ll ever try again. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
DGRachel @Karkar I could not have dealt with that. I woke up with a sore throat on my second day of listening to this and was completely freaked out. I didn‘t realize before I started that this was an Outbreak Book and I think that terrified me more than any fictitious monster could have! 6y
InLibrisVeritas I will be honest and just say, I didnt like this one. For me it felt entirely too long for the content given, and when the plot did begin to move forward it was underwhelming for the amount of build up. I also wish I could find a King character that I actually like, as opposed to characters that make me weary or grossed out. 6y
BookwormAHN This was my second attempt to read/listen to this book. I finished it last night. I enjoyed it but, I think it was too long. The first half about the plague was somewhat realistic and terrifying but I didn't like the crazy religious/evil God second half 🤦🏼‍♀️ 6y
Bklover This was a reread for me. I love SK and I love this book! There are certain characters that I can‘t stand and others that I love. I always find myself wondering what kind of person I would be in the same situation and that is what scares me the most. Anyone else experience this? 6y
DGRachel @Bklover I‘d like to pretend I‘d be a good person, one of Mr. Rodgers‘s “helpers”, but I fear I would not be. 😔 If I‘m honest, I‘d hope to be one of the first to die so I would not have to deal with all the chaos. 6y
BookwormAHN @Bklover I did and my conclusion was that I would find a library or Barnes and Noble and become a well read hermit 🙋🏼‍♀️ 6y
Bklover @BookwormAHN @DGRachel I think the part I don‘t get it this constant need for other people. If I had no family left I think I‘d be in Barnes and Noble with you Ashley. We could probably figure out the coffeemaker in the Starbucks section! 6y
DGRachel @Bklover @BookwormAHN See, I can understand the need for other people. I am already a bit of a hermit, but I have days where I really feel like I‘ll go mad if I can‘t talk to another human being. I will force myself to go out, even if I‘m not feeling well or have been battling migraines for days, just because the loneliness becomes overwhelming. Humans are naturally pack animals. 6y
Bklover @DGRachel @BookwormAHN You‘re probably right, but I‘d probably end up running into Harold. 😳 6y
BookwormAHN @DGRachel @Bklover True, but I'm also afraid I'd end up with a Harold or worse 🙀 6y
BookwormAHN @Bklover @DGRachel Besides if Missy and I can get the coffee maker working we'll be fine 😺 6y
Bklover @BookwormAHN @DGRachel YES!!! Books, coffee, cookies, cheesecake and someone to talk books with. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y
Slajaunie Cheesecake would spoil quickly @BookwormAHN 6y
Slajaunie I would have to be with the “good” group with electricity. How else am I going to read at night? I would also find bookstores and live near one. Think of all the free books! 6y
Slajaunie I enjoyed this book. I listened to the extended version. I enjoyed learning about the different people and where they came from. I was curious how they would get rid of Flag. I thought it was just interesting that someone who adored him was his doom. 6y
Debiw781 @Karkar that would have freaked me out more than a little bit 😳 6y
Debiw781 @Bklover @BookwormAHN can I hang out in the Barnes and Noble with you guys? And did you guys know there‘s a zombie book where the heroine gets trapped in a bookstore? It‘s not SK but I loved it just because that would be me 😂 6y
BookwormAHN @Debiw781 Sure, but we will have to eat the cheesecake first off because @Slajaunie is right it will spoil quickly. @Bklover 😸 6y
KrystleTheBookSlayer I loved the book, which is surprising since I'm not really into books with strong religious themes. It was definitely long...I got kind of bored when everything started to become about committee meetings. 6y
Erin7 @InLibrisVeritas I have to agree with you. I made it through, but there was at least 400 pages that could have been trimmed off of this one while still getting the point across. I‘m an SK fan, and I really wanted more from this one. 6y
JulAnna This was a re-read for me also, and those of you who have seen previous posts of mine know already that it is one of my favorite SK books. I did feel connected to the characters, in the way that they felt very realistic to me, like people that one could actually meet. Glad to have the chance to visit them again. 6y
JulAnna @Bklover I have wondered that often when reading apocalyptic books- what would I do in that situation? 6y
JulAnna @Karkar Your comment made me smile, I was just recommending this book to someone and stressed to her that she should read it before cold and flu season starts! 😂 6y
JulAnna I am often surprised in apocalyptic books how quickly society devolves and surviving is difficult and dangerous. A large part of me hopes that survivors would be helpful to each other and want as many people to continue to survive as possible. After all, with a radically decreased population there would be more resources for everyone. Anyone else have thoughts on this? 6y
Bklover @Debiw781 @Slajaunie @BookwormAHN The more the merrier! And definitely cheesecake first!! 6y
Dogearedcopy I wasn‘t part of the read-a-long but I can‘t resist commenting! I had to live through ‘The Stand‘ in excruciating detail and vicariously as my husband re-pre-read it and recorded it (My DH is Grover Gardner) *and* deal with his whining when he got the sniffles at one point during the process! 🙄 👇 (edited) 6y
Dogearedcopy He kept side-eyeing me when I admitted I hadn‘t listened to it yet so finally I set the time me aside last year. It was weird because I felt like I was *re-reading* it! (edited) 6y
Dogearedcopy Anyway, I would love to drop in if I can! I‘m doing my own King catalog read but at a much slower pace than you guys. I‘m current tracking down the audio for ‘The Long Walk‘ and ‘Firestarter‘ to listen to in September and October respectively (edited) 6y
Dogearedcopy @JulAnna Hmmm, based on what the country witnessed during Hurricane Katrina, an apocalypse on a small scale granted, I wouldn‘t depend on the kindness or help of others. (edited) 6y
DGRachel @Dogearedcopy That‘s so awesome!! Thanks for sharing your story. 😊 6y
Dogearedcopy I was wondering if anyone else read Robert McCammon‘s ‘Swan Song‘ and what they thought of it in relation to ‘The Stand‘. I thought SS was highly derivative but, gasp! Better written! Still King gets all the points for originality. 6y

My pile of books for #cult5 is also suitable for #litsyconfession All of them are unread...and there is nothing that I can add to my defense 😳

From the top: Heller - Catch 22; Bulgakov - Master and Margarita; Golding - Lord of the Flies; Orwell - Animal Farm; Ellison - Invisible Man

Thank you @AceOnRoam for the tag, and I‘m tagging @TheBookstorePodcast @Tove_Reads @HeatherBlue @JaclynW and @sweetpealsd

Izai.Amorim Animal Farm is a very good and short read. Go for it!! 7y
Simona @Izai.Amorim I know, I know ... eventually 😘 7y
BarbaraBB I would have thought you‘ve read them all 😘 7y

Simona @BarbaraBB Now I‘m blushing even more 😳😳😳 Does this count - that I saw Master and Margarita in three different theater productions 🤔 7y
AceOnRoam It's fabulous that you have this great collection. Enjoy them when you get around to it 📚 7y
Simona @AceOnRoam Thank you 🙏 for not judging me 😘 7y
AceOnRoam Never @Simona ❤❤ 7y
JaclynW I've read all of these books. (Well part of Catch 22.) I had mixed feelings with Invisible Man. Catch 22 was read during a busy time of life, I need to re-visit it. The other 3 books were GREAT! Enjoy them! 7y
Simona @JaclynW I feel that I have to read them, but I‘m always distracted by some others great books ... (edited) 7y
JaclynW @Simona I know what you mean! I have the same problem. 😏😄 7y

All I need for cozy Sunday ...

My third book for #ManBookerPrize2017 longlist. I have read 7% so far and I'm already in love❣️

BarbaraBB Oh really? I hear mixed reviews but I loved The God of Small Things so keep hoping I'll love this one as much. 7y
Simona @BarbaraBB This is for #litsyconfession I didn't like The God of Small Things 🤷‍♀️ and I heard, that the 'problem' in this book is in the second part, but so far everything is perfect! 7y
EvieBee Nice! Need to get reading. Lovely photo also! 7y

Zelma Looks very cozy and inviting. Great photo! 7y
Simona @EvieBee @Zelma Thanks 😊 7y
batsy To be honest the problems in this book are what made me sit up and take notice. I think I like problematic novels ? I find, the older I get, the "perfectly written" novels leave me feeling...not so satisfied. Hope you enjoy it! 7y
Simona @batsy It was love at first page! I think that I'm at the first 'problematic' part - heavy with politics, but even this part make sense to me ... I'm so glad that I listened her interview before I started with reading https://www.kcrw.com/news-culture/shows/bookworm/arundhati-roy-the-ministry-of-u... 7y
batsy @Simona 👍 I read some interviews with her & found it illuminating too. Haven't listened to this interview, will check it out! Thanks. 7y

#litsyconfession

Not including the six books I just got from BOTM or the four I just ordered from book outlet, this is my TBR pile. Yes that top picture is three stacks deep. Clearly I need more bookshelves.

(Ignore the chewed up box. If I take it away my cat will mourn it for a month)

Swallows & Amazons | Arthur Ransome
post image

Only one possible choice for #sail - Swallows & Amazons. John, Susan, Titty and Roger sailing round the Lake District, camping, islands, copper-smelting, exploring, and having run-ins with 'pirates' Nancy & Peggy. Or exploring the Norfolk Broads with Dick and Dot. A different time, a different world, and I loved it!

#litsyconfession - I don't really collect books. I keep odd favourites. This is the only series I own.

#lyricalapril @Cinfhen

Cinfhen This collection is amazing 😍 8y
Centique Oh my! I loved these so much as a kid. I have about 6 but not the whole lot so I'm definitely jealous! 😍😍 8y
rockpools @Centique 😊 I haven't met many Arthur Ransome fans - they turned me into a terrible armchair sailor! These are very well-loved (as in falling to bits & losing their pages!). 8y

Beartown: A Novel | Fredrik Backman
post image

I am LOVING this ARC from Fredrick Backman, it's a complete departure from his previous novels. Since any sport involving skates and ice is pretty much a family religion, I am relating very well to this story about a small community town, where ice hockey is EVERYTHING. In between my lunch and ARC, I'm catching up on my People magazines....plenty of important stuff I need to know, like will Abby Lee Miller get jail time?!? #BookNLunch

LeahBergen And that Menendez jail interview! 👍🏼 8y
minkyb Delicious looking lunch! I always catch up on People mag when I get my hair cut! 8y

Cinfhen 😂😂I realized after I posted I was using my husband's beloved Rangers glass @LauraBeth 🏒 I used to be terribly addicted to People Mag &'US, but moving overseas has been good for my recovery @minkyb but sometimes you just gotta know stuff @LeahBergen and the jail interview was riveting ⚖️😊 8y
LauraBeth #litsyconfession: I go to B&N, get a latte, and read every gossipy magazine there is like it's Tolstoy I'm reading 😀 8y
Cinfhen If only I had that option @LauraBeth 😍 8y

TheNextBook
The Winds of Winter | George R. R. Martin
post image

Waiting for George R.R. Martin to finally finish this series like "Shame (it took you this long). Shame (you started a show that passed your novels in it's time frame). Shame (Winter has come and about to leave without another book). Shame"

TheNextBook "Confess, you like making your fans wait. Confess, you dont have a clue how to end the story. Confess, you want Game of Thrones to have a two hour movie finale. Confess, this wont end for another five years." I should have just watched the show and not read the books because this is too much. #litsyconfession I've never thought that before. Especially because these books are so damn good. (edited) 8y
Bookzombie I watched the first season and then read the first book. I decided after that I wanted to read the books first and I will wait for him to finish. I'm not as invested as some fans but I do wish he would get the hell on with it. 🙂 8y
WhatDeeReads LMAO! I gave up after the first book. My mentor and I both thought it was less painful to just watch the show. 8y
See All 17 Comments
TheNextBook @bookzombie so I didnt start reading the books until after the first season. I stayed on track reading a book after each season until season 4 when they split the fourth book. After season 5 I never read book 4 because I knew they diverged from the book. So I've been waiting for him to finish the damn series so I can finish the damn book series. I really enjoy the books and the show but now I'm just mad with the lack of progress (edited) 8y
TheNextBook @Lucky_LaDee I really enjoyed the books I've read because they are so rich in detail. Reading it while enjoying the show has helped with world building but damn George really! This is just insane. 8y
TrishB I've read them - as 2 different things and an assumption that he'll finish the books differently! 8y
BookishFeminist AMEN. I don't ever like to shame authors for taking their time to write but jfc don't start a show based on your books then if you can't keep up the pace with the plot! Take your time to write OR have a show and make some sacrifices. I love the show and love the books. I'm with you that I'd normally not care but the books are so good! 8y
TheNextBook @TrishB he has to end them differently or have his plot points in the book were a mess. The one that stands out the most to me are Lady Stonheart and the fact that all the Stark Kids, including John, are Worgs not just Bran. 8y
TheNextBook @BookishFeminist my irritation level is on high with this. What is really screwed is that he might actually be influenced by the story on HBO since he still isnt sure how he is going to end it. He just has a general idea. 8y
Books88 For real!!! 8y
Reese_Pearly.Pages 🤣🤣😂😂 8y
Laalaleighh Don't read the name of the wind then. 8y
TheNextBook @AJBowers I was watching this episode last night and this is exactly how I felt. 8y
TheNextBook @Reese_Pearly.Pages and not a lie was said! 8y
TheNextBook @Laalaleighh I shouldn't keep my out for any dreams either... 😉 8y
Laalaleighh Hahaha no. 8y
bitterbear @TheNextBook I had a strict policy of not reading a series (books) unless I was sure the last book was coming out (already written publishing date imminent)... I broke my rule with Martin.. F👊cker burned me. 😐😐😐😐😐 8y

Found this one elsewhere today, and decided this is a trend we could ALL get behind!

asiriusreader Ok, #Litsyconfession time: I actually had someone hit on me in B&N once and ask to buy me a coffee. It was pretty disconcerting because I thought he worked there (Him upon approach: "Are you finding something you like?"), and then when he asked me to get a coffee with him, I pretty much ran away after a hasty but polite no. And all I was thinking was, "No!!! Don't destroy my happy place!" ? 8y
AmandaL @asiriusreader This also happened to me in a B&N! It was awful and embarrassing. 8y
asiriusreader @AmandaL oh no!!! I am sorry to hear this has happened to more than one of us! Yes, wasn't it the worst?! Ugh. Still gives me the heebie jeebies to thinking about it! 8y
See All 12 Comments
BarbaraTheBibliophage @asiriusreader @AmandaL Oh gosh. I guess I was focused on free books without remembering there's so many creepers out there. 😱 8y
Vexingcircumstance I've gotten hit on in libraries a few times. I figured out eventually that first year college students were using my favorite branch of the library to pick up girls. (FYI I am way to old for first year college students and was then too) I've never been on in a bookstore that I can recall. I don't imagine I'd react well unless I actually was interested in the guy (if I were single). But that's very rare. (edited) 8y
asiriusreader @BarbaraTheBibliophage that's okay...it would have been hard to turn down a book shopping spree had it been offered. 😂😂 8y
asiriusreader @Vexingcircumstance yes, I did not react well. And ewww, in libraries too? Is no place sacred?? 😉 8y
Vexingcircumstance @asiriusreader it seemed to be mostly that branch only. It's the closest branch to the university. I mostly go to the downtown one now and it hasn't happened since I moved back here. But I also usually have my two year old with me now. So that also helps ward off college students from hitting on me lol. 8y
asiriusreader @Vexingcircumstance 😂😂 having a two-year-old is wonderful in more ways than one then! 8y
Vexingcircumstance @asiriusreader I'm just happy to see that other people don't like being hit on. I've gotten a lot of rude comments from people for complaining about being hit on. Even other women who I expected to understand why it's annoying have been like "but isn't it kind of nice?" And I'm like "no...99% of the time it's really annoying". Not once have I dated a guy that hit on me randomly as a stranger. 8y
asiriusreader @Vexingcircumstance 👏🏻 totally agree! I've never taken it as a compliment to have my space invaded by a random stranger. 8y
MyNamesParadise It'd be nice to be hit on by someone that wasn't creepy but knowing me if I saw someone I liked I'd prob hit on them ? and then be like "hey buy me this new release hardcover. I know you're intrigued by my boldness" 8y
