I finished my reread of this series earlier this week. Apparently, I did not remember how it ended. I thought something completely different happened. I actually didn‘t remember this one at all. I know I read it, so not sure why I don‘t remember, when I remembered bits from the other books. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Now I‘m trying to find some other romance/paranormal romances similar to this for February!

EclecticBookLover I did this recently too. I jumped to the Mercy Thompson books on audio and it that paranormal/romance/humor vibe. 2y
robinb Do you read Ilona Andrews or Patricia Briggs? They‘re two of my favorites. 2y
Laughterhp @robinb I‘ve read Ilona Andrew‘s! I do like them! I‘ve only read 1 series I think. I‘ll have to see if I‘ve read Patricia Briggs, I‘m not sure. 2y
robinb @Laughterhp I loved the Kate Daniels series and have read most of the Hidden Legacy books (Andrews). The Mercy Thompson series is wonderful and have been meaning to start another series with Briggs. 2y

1. The longest series I have finished is The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris. I am in the middle of many longer series that aren‘t finished. In Death, Prey, Agent Pendergast, Darkhunter, Anita Blake, Merry Gentry and Harry Dresden Series just to name a few.

2. No.
3. No preference. I don‘t mind different points of view if it is done well.

5feet.of.fury I have been meaning to read Merry Gentry, but never seem to get to it. How do you find it to compare to Anita Blake? 3y
BookmarkTavern Ah, Harry Dresden. I didn‘t really get into those until I heard the audiobooks! I‘ve been really enjoying them since. Thanks for sharing! 3y
DarkMina @5feet.of.fury I enjoy both series. I am generally not a huge fan of fairy stories (love vampires) but the Merry series is really good. Both series have a lot of great characters. I really enjoyed Anita hunting monsters and I think sometimes all the sex and other stuff detracts from that. I do think I like Merry the character a little more than Anita. But that is probably just me relating to her personality a little more. Do you like the Anita series? 3y
5feet.of.fury @DarkMina I liked earlier Anita more, I feel like the number of people in the Harem now are.. too many. I agree that the plot takes a backseat. Pages and pages are spent on sex or lovers quarrels/working through minor issues and then you‘re nearing the end of the book thinking “we haven‘t even found this person, we still have to kill this monster” & it‘s wrapped up without the time and detail that‘s spent on so and so‘s hair and eye color. Lol 3y

The book was disappointing, so here‘s a sleeping cat instead.

This felt very much like Harris just wanted to tie everything up and didn‘t care how. The style is different, with sections told from an omniscient narrator‘s POV instead of Sookie‘s. Characters show up for no real reason (Quinn and Barry), the plot is convoluted...but at least I‘m done with the series now.

TheSpineView What a bummer! 😏 3y
5feet.of.fury It‘s been a while since I read it... but it was not good haha 3y
ravenlee @TheSpineView thanks for giving me the push to finish the series - obviously I could feel what was coming and that‘s why I was dragging my feet! But I do feel a great sense of relief having finally finished it. 3y

I just started this one and am already not liking it. The prologue is a new thing, there‘s a (the?) devil...I have a feeling this is gonna be a slog. But I‘ve invested for a dozen books now, all but the last a reread, so I just need to bite the bullet. This feeling is why it‘s taken me so long to finish the damn series.

I went to a thrift store today looking for vintage books and I found the four books I was missing from the Southern Vampire Mysteries Series! What's even better is they were having a special on all books, 4 for 99¢. I got all four for 99¢! 🤯 The hearts are the 4 I got today. I previously had From Dead to Worse but I lent it to someone at work. Then they quit and took my book with them. 🤬

Lady_Tigana_20 When you get an amazing deal, it makes it all the more satisfying. As for the co-worker, that is why I rarely loan my books. I loaned a few before; when I asked if he had read book yet, he hadn‘t. Then he said he had to look for it. Didn‘t know where it was. I did get it back, but I don‘t loan to him anymore. 5y

This was not the end I had really hoped for. Don‘t get me wrong it‘s a good ending for Sookie, but I had really hoped it would have been a different ending!

I just finished the whole series and I have no idea what just happened in the last book!!! I still feel like I missed 3-4 books but I read every one of them back to back! There was so much build up then it fell so very flat and there were so MANY plot holes..... I expected to be let down but this was just... bad... and now I‘m sad! #sookiedone

LoveToReadLiveToRead It was a shame the way they went downhill towards the end. I had always enjoyed the series at the start. 🙄 6y
RaimeyGallant How awful! 6y
Rabidgummibear I didn‘t read the last book because I was so over it. I kept getting so annoyed by the end of the series. (edited) 6y

vkois88 I remember feeling this way when I read them as they came out... they just kept getting more and more far-fetched and totally bizarre that I just didn't enjoy it anymore. It's like bc the show strayed from her writing, she had to compete. It wasn't pretty 6y
rubyslippersreads I was really disappointed by the way the book series ended. Actually, I wasn‘t all that thrilled with the way the TV series ended either. 6y
julesG That last book was so out of tune. I try to warn everyone not to read it. 6y
Eyelit That‘s basically how I felt when I read this series! 6y
CoverToCoverGirl I will now be avoiding this entire series! 😳 6y
JacqMac I felt this way about the last book, too. So disappointing. 6y
Paula3 Oh that last book broke my heart 💔 I got sucked in years ago only to be disappointed in the end. 6y
Decalino The first 4+ books in the series were so much fun to read, but the last couple felt like a long slog that the author had to finish but had lost interest in. I am still glad I read those first books though--they were a blast! 6y
sprainedbrain Definitely the most disappointing end to a series I can think of. It‘s like she just phoned it in for the money. 😫 6y

Well it‘s been a heck of a few weeks around here. Family drama, work drama, health drama... it‘s just tiring and these past 4 days off have been amazing, I‘ve gotten some reading done and played some Let‘s Go Pikachu! But tomorrow my husband flys to Pittsburg for 6 days and I am not ready to be without him and I‘m totally freaking out 😖 so any loves and positive vibes anyone wants to send my way would be very much appreciated!!

Probably not the strongest installment, but it wrapped up the series nicely without many unanswered questions. A bit disappointed on Sookie‘s happy ever after, but it did make the most sense. 🌟🌟🌟1/2 out of 5.

I loved every book.. Some more than others.. This wasn't my favourite but it still kept me wanting more.. Much better than its tv counterpart.. I wish they'd followed the books through to the end on the tv show.. It had the ending I was hoping for and the characters were great! I loved Sookie.. Which is rare for me to favour a female lead.. She nailed it!

After about book ten of this series it started to go downhill a bit for me but I needed to finish it all. I loved Sookie as always but the style and plot of the last book wasn't for me! Anybody that is a True Blood fan should definitely read them though, very entertaining despite the differences from book to screen!

TheNextBook I read the first two because I wanted more after True Blood... and I just couldnt connect! I wanted to so bad! 7y

Day 4 of #marchintoreading #didntlikeitstillfinished

I very rarely dnf a book - it's a bad habit, because I know there are so many other books I could be reading, but I usually feel like I need to finish to make sure I'm not missing something. As a result, I have a lot of one- and two-star books on my read shelf in Goodreads. 😜

Here are but a few that I can think of that I really disliked, but finished anyway.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I skipped the last Sookie book... so I still have mostly good memories of the series! 8y
sprainedbrain @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Good thinking! I just remember the first several books fondly, and try not to dwell on the last ones. 😂 8y
CouronneDhiver Those first three have such simple, beautiful covers. It's a shame they aren't 'picks' 8y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Yeah, she should have pulled the plug a bit earlier... 8y
sprainedbrain @CouronneDhiver I picked the first one just for the cover. 😍 8y
Lauredhel Oh yes, Hush Hush was awful. No idea why I didn't DNF it, but I was hate-reading well before the end. 8y
sprainedbrain @Lauredhel I hate-read the rest of the series too. 😳🤣 8y
Lauredhel @sprainedbrain Nooooo! Life's too short. 8y
sprainedbrain @Lauredhel it's a terrible habit, and I'm trying to quit. 😂 8y
DivineDiana I understand. Although I do not feel the need to finish a series, I must finish a book that I start (although it might take some time, if it is not "grabbing me"). Nevertheless, I feel an obligation to the author who has given me a piece of themselves (well, that's my perception). It's like walking out of a play before the last act. Anyhow, that's what I think. ? 8y
Cortg You're not alone! I can't bail on a book, I always have to finish it. I know there's no reason to finish a bad book with so many books to read. I think it's a personality, character trait that I always have to finish things. I read the first Sookie Stackhouse book and that was enough for me. I never feel the need to finish a series though, just a book. 8y
KimM Ugh, the last few books of the Sookie Stackhouse series 👎. And yet I too completed them. 8y
Lmstraubie I feel the same way! I keep reading thinking something will happen, something will happen!! 8y
Anneblythe Just thinking of all the time I have invested on reading a book makes it harder to quit. 😵 8y
raelaschoenherr I couldn't finish Beautiful Disaster! 8y
Smangela @DivineDiana excellent way of looking at it; I'm going to use that to explain to people why I dont DNF either :) 8y
Smangela @sprainedbrain I have Flawed from an OwlCrate - :/ hopefully I like it lol 8y
sprainedbrain @Smangela I think that's where I got it, too! 8y

This series is awesome. I love it. However, with this being the last book, it ended in disappointment. I was not happy with the fact she ended up with Sam. It made this whole story anticlimatic. I would give this a 3/5.

I was a big Sookie Stackhouse fan but the series ended very blah for me. At book 10 It was clear Ms. Harris was over this story and eager to end it & move on. Having said that, I really enjoyed the series as a whole. Strong female lead, action, well formed secondary characters... It was a fun read!

Rebekaaah I still haven't read the final book! I loved the series to begin with, but the later books became very blah and thin on story. I don't know if can be bothered at this point to finish it lol 8y
FeastingOnFiction @Rebekaaah I know what you mean. I started to lose interest around book 10 but at that point I had invested so much time in the story I had to finish. If you're like me you'll just be glad to have a conclusion and put the story to rest, but they don't hold up to the rest of the series IMHO 8y
