Starting my first Terry Pratchett book. People said start with this one. So far people were right. Fun read so far. Will have to read all 40 now… so many books. So little time.

So far this is my 4th Discworld book. Of the 4 books I think this one could be read at any point in the series because no character that I know of is a repeat so far but a short appearance by Death.
The God Om wakes up in the body of a tortoise & wants to find out why and Brutha attempts to find truth in religion. This alone 😂

pickich habe das Buch mit Genuss begonnen. Mitten drin glich es dann doch sehr den anderen glaubenskritischen Büchern, dass ich beinahe das Interesse verlor. und dann nahm die Geschichte Fahrt auf. Ich wurde reingesogen. Es war sprudelnd,witzig,ideenreich. Den Sprecher fand ich gut.

A Valentine‘s Day shopping spree! All of the Discworld books are used and Small Gods is the only one of these I haven‘t read. Uriah Heep had come to my attention lately and Stormsong was a must have (although now it has to wait for a Witchmark reread first!). #marchmagics

pickSmall Gods is one of my favorites from Pratchett. He takes on religion and beliefs, and the difference between them. In a country dedicated to the god Om, when Om actually shows up as a tortoise, he finds only one true believer - Brutha, the naive novice who believes everything he is told - until he learns - and with knowledge and belief, he changes the world. One of the best, funniest, most insightful and most human books from Sir Terry.
pickI‘ll admit it took a bit for this one to get going for me, a lot of new characters, only brief cameos of a few we know, BUT I really loved this one once it got going. A great story that will make you think of “organized religion” verses faith in a completely different (but sadly true) way, Pratchett as always pokes at the sacred and reveals the inconsistencies of humanity.

It's 8am, I've been up since 5.30am (Yoga, was hard at that hour), and I've already managed 1.9k steps. My kids kept me busy.

pickI think I'm going to go with this book being good, not great. It has a lot to say, but (as I often do) I find myself wishing I liked the characters better. But it has some of my favorite storytelling tropes (might even be the source of my fondness for them!) and I had a good time.

Continuing my #lunchreading with the #OokBookClub book of the month. I've even got my own Great God Om to read with me (in the form of a frog). He's not talking though. At least not at the moment. 😂😂😂
So Small Gods and Witches Abroad kind of feel like opposites, plotting wise. Witches Abroad is very goal-focused, while nearly 150 pages in Small Gods is just... drifting along. Let's you really feel the difference between an active and a passive protag.

He discovers that in the nation of Omnia that worships & fears him, only one young novice actually BELIEVES. Together Om & his believer will examine faith, war, & philosophy & figure out their place in the (Disc)world.
This stands alone from the previous 12, going a bit darker & deeper.
