Then this book of four children and their dog stranded on an island in a race to find the buried pirate treasure, might spark your interest. By no means criminal masterminds themselves they work together and survive.

Klou I LOVE this book!! What an excellent choice!! 4y

Reading the ‘Famous Five for Grown Ups‘ series has made me nostalgic for the originals, so I got the full series of the 1970‘s-80‘s from eBay for (d6. I had a couple of these editions handed down to me when I was younger and they were always the ones I liked the best. My plan is to read the whole series over the Christmas holidays...I‘m looking forward to it already.

kezzlou85 I loved the famous five when I was young. I read most of the books. 5y
Connster @kezzlou85 They‘re great, aren‘t they? So much nostalgia! 5y
kezzlou85 @Connster so good. Trying to get my daughter into them now. 5y

50 BOOKS I LOVE
Book 1: The Famous Five series
I come from a small town with no reading culture,we had no book stores.Fortunately,we had a small library at school & period set up for reading.Everyone had to issue a book & read it since you had to give book review. So, grudgingly, as homework, I picked up one of the famous five books because it had the most fancy cover and fell in love with it.
#50booksIlove

CONTD. IN COMMENTS

Shamzi It had everything a kid always desires- mystery, fun, adventure, a dog, being smart and brave.

Week after week I read them(library didn't have all the books) and wanted more. Georgina or George was my favorite of the five. These books are special as they were the first ones I ever read and you never forget a first!!

Oh, I love Christmas shopping! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

AlaMich These books just made an appearance in the book I‘m reading. I know they are hugely popular in the UK but I had never heard of them until fairly recently here in the US. That‘s odd to me. 6y
Mitch @AlaMich they‘re books that have really not faired well over the years, but I‘ve still got very fond memories of reading these under the bedcovers with a torch! 6y
AlaMich @Mitch Yes, a lot of old books like that don‘t age well. 6y

1. The Famous Five. I couldn‘t believe that I was not the real George! And I will always remember those picnics! The food made me drool 🤪 2. I‘m a cake monster 3. Learning foreign languages 😆 I‘m tackling Japanese now. Latin is next but I can‘t find a good teacher. Let me know if there‘s one who can teach me over Skype or something 4. Either Tokyo or NYC, I‘m split 50:50 5. I‘m tagging @BarbaraBB #friyayintro

Dolly How interesting that you want to learn Latin. My high school demanded everyone take at least one year of Latin in order to graduate. It‘s very useful! I wish I‘d payed closer attention. 🤓 6y
BarbaraBB Thank you for tagging. So cool dat you are learning Japanese! How many languages do you speak? 6y
sisilia @BarbaraBB Fluently, two... My Japanese was better when I was learning it in Japan, and I lost it when I‘m back in Singapore and rarely use it 😿 6y
sisilia @Dolly Wow that‘s cool! The only Latin that I learned at school was the name of plants and animals in science class 😅 6y

Sunday morning, blueberry pancakes, banana milk and maple sirup.

#audiobook is one of the million Famous Five audioplays my daughter found on Spotify.

CoffeeAndABook Ha!! Love the Famous Five, spent countless hours with my brother and one of our three Fünf Freunde tapes ??? Have a great Sunday ? 6y
julesG @CoffeeAndABook I'm enjoying my tea and a book while the LO is watching Die Sendung mit der Maus - Sunday ritual. 6y
CoffeeAndABook Perfect Sunday morning 👌🏻I have to admit, don‘t know what LO stands for 🙈Lovely offspring? 6y

julesG @CoffeeAndABook Cool idea for the acronym. It's Little One. Considering she broke a smartphone yesterday, in a temper tantrum, I'm not sure I'd call her 'lovely'. She can be more than a handful. 6y
CoffeeAndABook 😂😂😂 Ok breaking a smartphone is not lovely... but possibly a super smart act of subversive sociocritical performance art 👊🏻 6y
julesG @CoffeeAndABook LOL!! 😂😂 Nope. Temper tantrum! Definitely! But she was very sorry about two hours later, when the fact that she will not be able to use the bloody device for the unforeseeable future became clear. She even offered her pocket money and piggy bank money to cover for a new one. (I'm not going to accept just now. She might get another old/discarded mobile at the end of next week, to be able to stay in touch with me.) 6y
CoffeeAndABook 😂👍🏻 smart mom!! 🌸 6y

1. I don't really have a favourite beach read but I'll read anything light on the beach. I'll probably end up reading one of Enid Blyton's Famous Five.
2. I have an obsession with dolphins and whales. I love them!
3. Any beach with blue water and white sand and not too many people.

1. I think The Boxcar Children & Sweet Valley High
2. Oh gosh! There were so many!! I really enjoyed Evelyn Hugo, though.
3. I think I'm going to have to go the au bridge on this one. Talk about making it difficult to enjoy a book!
4. I hate to say something is overrated when I couldn't even get through a chapter to see what the fuss was about, but 50 Shades.

1. Choose Your Own Adventure books
2. I can‘t pick just one, sorry....
3. Dolores Umbridge 🤢, honestly hated her more than the main villain or his sycophants.
4. 50 Shades of Grey

1. The Chronicles of Narnia
2. Um, hmmm...I‘m having a hard time picking one so I‘m thinking about it.
Update: I‘ve thought about it and it‘s hard to choose so I‘m going with Waking Gods.
3. Dolores Umbridge
4. I don‘t know. I usually only read series if I‘m reasonably certain they‘re worth the commitment. If I had to pick I‘d say the Twilight series was not up to the hype it got when it was first released.
5. @Sarah83

#TuesdayTidbits

JenlovesJT47 Umbridge!!! 😤😤😤 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @JenlovesJT47 I bet more people dislike her than Voldemort, if they really think about it. Voldemort is what you expect the villain to be - over the top, willing to tell you his grand plan, wants it his way, dirties his hands some but let‘s other do most of the dirty work. Umbridge is the villain because she‘s real - quietly goes about her business and is as willing to do the dirty work as she is to get someone else to do it. 7y
JenlovesJT47 Exactly!! Every time I read it I always think to myself how much worse she is than Voldemort. At least V knows he's bad - she is a huge hypocrite and tries to act like she's a decent person. 😒💩😡😤 7y
Andrew65 I think The Chronicles Of Narnia will be another popular one. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @Andrew65 I updated my best read of 2017. It was hard to pick a series from when I was a kid because I couldn‘t think of many! 7y

Famous #Five was my first thought for today, too. I recently discovered this audio play on CD - you know, I'm sooo old, I still had them on cassettes - so I bought it for my kids.
My son was sceptical at first but, since the CD is still in his player, seems to like them after all.

This year is the 75th anniversary of The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. I adored reading about The Famous Five adventures as a child and I read all the books numerous times.
There are 21 books in the series and I wanted to reread them for a long time. Yesterday I decided it's finally time. I went to the library and got the first five books. And I can't wait to start reading!

I found it surprising to discover non-English people hadn't heard of the famous five. When I posted about it on my Insta page it was met with blank looks from a lot of my American and Australian friends.
They are something of a national treasure here, a British institution. Like the Hardy boys only with more 'what ho ' and dash and bother it all' . As a child I wanted all their adventures, foiling smugglers and lashing of ginger beer 😁 #britlit

bookishrose The Famous Five are in Germany really popular as well. I read a few of the books in my childhood. 8y

Pickpick

Next up in #LizsLibraryLoves is Enid Blyton. My Auntie Lilla had two children much older than me, so when she saw how much I loved books she started giving me their old copies of authors like Enid Blyton. I loved the Famous Five, I think I read every book in the series at least five times. Gave me a totally unrealistic version of England but it also fueled my 7yr old imagination, I went on so many adventures in my backyard & down the local creek!

batsy Till this I still dream about their picnics, scones and cream and new potatoes and hard-boiled eggs and fruit cake and cold chicken 😋 8y
hlgreenfield I loved the Enid Blyton books! I devoured them as a child! 8y
