Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands
Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands: Book 2 of the Emily Wilde Series | Heather Fawcett
When mysterious faeries from other realms appear at her university, curmudgeonly professor Emily Wilde must uncover their secrets before its too late in this heartwarming, enchanting second installment of the Emily Wilde series. Emily Wilde is a genius scholar of faerie folkloreshe just wrote the worlds first comprehensive of encylopaedia of faeries. Shes learned many of the secrets of the Hidden Folk on her adventures . . . and also from her fellow scholar and former rival, Wendell Bambleby. Because Bambleby is more than infuriatingly charming. Hes an exiled faerie king on the run from his murderous mother, and in search of a door back to his realm. So despite Emilys feelings for Bambleby, shes not ready to accept his proposal of marriage: Loving one of the Fair Folk comes with secrets and danger. And she also has a new project to focus on: a map of the realms of faerie. While she is preparing her research, Bambleby lands her in trouble yet again, when assassins sent by Bamblebys mother invade Cambridge. Now Bambleby and Emily are on another adventure, this time to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where Emily believes they may find the door to Bambleys realm, and the key to freeing him from his familys dark plans. But with new relationships for the prickly Emily to navigate and dangerous Folk lurking in every forest and hollow, Emily must unravel the mysterious workings of faerie doors, and of her own heart.

Very few books get a five star from me and this one does. It is as good as the first book in the series and I‘m truely looking forward to the next instalment next year.

I largely enjoyed this book but not as much as the first one. Emily and Wendel's relationship remained sweet and entertaining. But I found most of the secondary characters felt anemic, including Emily's niece who I don't feel needed to be there at all, as well as the underwhelming big bad. Plot has a few ex machina moments where Wendel just does magic.

Still an easy entertaining read that has it's moments. A four star rather than a five.

This was absolutely delightful and just as much fun as the first one. Towards the end though it did seem to follow the outline of the first one a bit too close though.

I‘ve got a cat in the window next to me and a dog on my lap so it‘s time to go deeper into my book!

CatLass007 🐶😻 I‘ve got four kitties. Right now one is on my lap and one is on the back of my chair. I don‘t know exactly what the other two are doing but they‘re around. I never read, eat, sleep, or go to the bathroom alone. 1mo

Another delightful adventure with Emily as she aids Wendell in the search for the door he needs to a fairy realm. New characters with some old friends along for the ride as well, new dangers, but the same Emily who just wants to be left alone to do her work. I really enjoy this series.

A little slower to start, a little less Wendell in parts, but still satisfaction to my cozy fantasy-loving heart. New life goals: Get a Grim to adopt me 😍

An excellent sequel to the first in the series! Again, the reader was wonderful for the audiobook. I enjoyed the new characters and creatures of Austria and Wendell‘s realm. The author‘s description of the faeries enchant and scare. Emily is an enjoyable character to follow in her adventures, I find myself laughing out loud or nodding my head in agreement.

This sequel really lived up to expectations! It is everything you could want from the cozy academia fantasy romance corner. Even though it leans into the cozy genre, there are still serious stakes for Emily & Wendell. Emily is following up her encyclopedia with a a mapbook of the Otherlands, and Wendell tries to return this kingdom while avoiding his stepmother‘s assassins. The faerie world is broadened and endearing new characters introduced.

This was a delightful sequel. Emily and Wendell go on a new adventure along with her niece and a curmudgeonly coworker. Many new fae are met and much adventure and mayhem occur. This may not work for everyone, but I enjoy this series a great deal. Only losing a half a star for it being a little slow at the beginning. 4.5⭐️

I love a good story about the Fae, and this series, written in a scholarly fashion but woven with charm and whimsy, has captured my heart. Poe reminds me of Dobby, and I even came to like Snowball. Above all, Wendell and Emily are adorable, and I can‘t wait to read the conclusion of their story in book 3.

I love the Emily Wilde world filled with fantastical creatures, magical charm, and new adventures! The first book hooked me immediately and this second book did not disappoint. I always fall the hardest for the first book in the series, but this was one of the better 2nd books. I'm 100% reading the next because I'm invested in Emily and Wendell. Such a unique relationship and I'm here to see how it ends! ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

A research trip to the Alps, where there is a small village with more than enough doors to Fairie. Two scholars went missing here decades ago. Lots of fairy folk, some helpful, some out for blood.
Emily is a little worried, not only because Wendell is having a massive hangover, but also because there's a colleague who thinks her a fraud, and her niece might not be up to being her assistant.

Emily Wilde must juggle the publication of her book, a romantic proposal, an accusation of academic dishonesty, & the beginnings of her own atlas of faerie. Easy, right?

Just as charming & delightful as the 1st one! We get great character growth for Emily, more and more glimpses of the varieties of the world of faerie, a continuation of threads set up in book 1, more threads for a sequel, plus a satisfying conclusion! And a faerie cat! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

The dangerous and delightful adventures of curmudgeonly faery scholar Emily Wilde, her Grim dog Shadow, and her otherworldly colleague (and aspiring fiancé) Wendell continue in the Alps and ~elsewhere~ in this sequel to Encyclopedia of Faeries! I just have such a good time following on the Oxford clad heels of this cozy yet prickly light academia fantasy series—alongside all the friends Emily always ends up finding (if slightly against her will).

Congrats to Barbara on 6 years of Litsy and all the delightful bookish interactions that come with it!

Emily Wilde‘s encyclopaedia of Fairies was one of my favourite books of this year so I‘m excited for the second half, and really rather kind of the author to release it in January and not make us wait too long to find out.

Thanks to NetGalley for gifting me the sequel to Emily Wilde‘s Encyclopaedia of Faeries, where the adventure continues with Emily and Wendell (and some new friends) on a quest to find Wendell‘s ominous door.
