After Alice: A Novel | 
so-soWhereas I loved the writing and found it to work so perfectly for an Alice in Wonderland continuation, I thought the story was lacking. It just didn‘t have enough to it that was really different and interesting. I agree with a lot of reviews that said that it needed more of Wonderland and less of the parallel story. I wanted more from this, but also a HUGE Alice fan, so I didn‘t hate it because it did have some cool elements.

Ada brings to Wonderland her own imperfect apprehension of cause and effect as she embarks on an odyssey to find Alice and see her safely home from this surreal world below the world. If Eurydice can ever be returned to the arms of Orpheus, or Lazarus can be raised from the tomb, perhaps Alice can be returned to life.

pickTo be fair this author is quirky in his takes of different stories and Alice in Wonderland (one of my favorite stories!) Is already a trip but with this one it gets curiouser and curiouser. This is from the POV of Ada a character briefly mentioned in the original story...Alice's friend to be exact. pickThis book isn't what you think it is. It's not an Alice in Wonderland retelling. Maguire takes the other characters mentioned in the book and tells the story of what they were doing. Ada falls down the rabbit hole after Alice. Lydia does her thing. It's really clever as a concept. I also went to the book reading/signing in Concord and he brought a flute player. Magical. ☕🐰
so-soThis story is not what I thought it would be. I did feel somewhat confused with it going back and forth between stories. I felt it would‘ve been better and more easy to follow without the back and forth. Overall I say that this was an okay story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I started this one before ‘The Witchfinder‘s Sister‘ but I can‘t stand it. I liked the ‘Wicked‘ series, but the writing in this one is completely different and I can‘t. 👎🏼👎🏼

Trying to pick which books I should pack for a weekend trip #upnorth 📚💼 I can't ever narrow it down and always end up packing way more books for my trips than I could ever actually read! This is a book I've been meaning to read for so long and have yet to get to, so I'm thinking it might be a good one to bring along. I've read the Wicked books and enjoyed them, but I haven't read anything else by Gregory Maguire yet.

so-soWhile not a pan, there were things that kept me from getting lost in this book. Considering the source material, that‘s what I wanted. First, I couldn‘t understand the point of the Victorian frame story. Anyone else get it? Second, Wonderland felt flat to me. I didn‘t care about the characters or what was happening. Where‘s the fantasy and whimsy? Big potential; lackluster execution (for me).

so-soMy second Maguire, both so-so. I think they may just not work for me. I get the appeal, it‘s the perspective of what‘s going on above ground while Alice is gone and a friend that is trailing Alice to get her home.
It drags in some parts and has this feeling of just slightly missing all the crazy action that Alice is experiencing. The above ground stuff is just boring. Didn‘t hate but didn‘t love.
pick1-17-18: 2nd finished book of 2018. After Alice by Gregory Macguire. This strange little novel takes place during the time that Alice is running around Wonderland, and shows what was happening above ground. I found it interesting and a quick read and I liked seeing different aspects of the day Alice went to Wonderland since I've been reading about her since I was a little girl. 👍🏼📖#️⃣2️⃣

pan✨I can definitely see why this doesn't have very good ratings like...anywhere. Seeming how its really based around Oxford and the other people in Alice's life. I still have no idea what this book was suppose to be about, but I did enjoy the different point of view. If it wasn't for my OCD, I probably would of DNF'd this one.
