Population laws are in effect, families are not supposed to have more than two children, and the ‘illegal‘ third (and fourth) siblings become the hidden. I don‘t know if I‘ll teach this one or not, but it would make a great choice for a Lit Circle option.

I loved the concept of this book. The storyline was creative and the characters were charming. It was also a really quick read, but I thought that it might be better suited for a younger audience since the vocabulary wasn‘t especially challenging. Great idea, just wasn‘t really for me.

Third time reading this book and it never disappoints! Just a quick read to get my reading goal started! Now I‘m to book 2!

If you enjoy dystopian stories you should give this one a try. It‘s quite suspenseful. In this story we follow Luke, a third child, who is illegal and will be killed if the Population Police find out that he exists. He is illegal for the mere fact that he is a third child in a time when people are only allowed to have 2 children. He must hide in his parents‘ attic, his whole life, so that he is not found out...but will he?

I haven‘t been able to focus on a book since March. I was only able to listen to a couple of audiobooks, but that was it. This is a really good book so far. I‘m currently on page 42 (chapter 9). I checked it out from our middle school library.

This RF Sunshine State Young Reader award winning book is great for an IR or LC book. This book is about a society in which families cannot have more than 2 kids but Luke is one of the shadow children that are not supposed to be alive but is hidden. #UCFLAE3414f19 Among The Hidden (SF) by Margaret Peterson Haddix was definitely my favorite book in the 5th grade so I had to re-read this book and see if I still loved it. The answer is yes. This book takes you to a dystopian reality where parents are only allowed to have 2 children. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. I would have children read this as part of a literature circle.

This is between a pick and a so so, as Haddix explores what if children has to be hidden- yet there are books and diaries where this is a reality to families around the world for centuries. It is an interesting way to introduce the topic to children who may not yet be aware that life can be difficult. #booked2019 #politicalintrigue #mounttbr

I‘m working through two classes right now, but am determined to maintain my #bfc goal of self care with reading for pleasure every day. Not sure what would work weekly yet- so no forecast for me but I think these will fill prompts in both #booked2019 and #bbrc as well as complete my goodreads goal. #throwbackthursday Does anyone remember this book? Probably my first ever dystopian read and it has stuck with me ever since.

I loaned some books to a coworker for their kids to read for summer reading. They gave me back one after getting it signed! So neat and unexpected! I can honestly say this is the first time I‘ve loaned a book and gotten it back signed, haha.

I like the plot of this. Having 3 kids and having to hide the third sounds like it‘d be a tough choice for any parent. Not sure if I‘ll continue this series or not but if I do, it seems like they‘d be easy to fly through.

As I already mentioned before, I read this one with my 8th graders in school. I really liked it, because it‘s written in an easy form and good to understand. Still it went off a bit boring, but then gained pace. My pupils are German learners, so for them it was a bit difficult to read and the didn‘t grasp the idea of a dystopy. #schattenkinder #amongthehidden #margaretpetersonhaddix #haddix

I originally read this book to see if it was something my students would like and I quickly fell in love with it... great writing that hooks the reader and is perfect for young readers!! We have started it in my room and my students are loving it too!! #lessthan200pages #marchinbooks @maich

An excellent tween book about the effect of population control on individuals and families. It reminded me of correspondence I had with the late Professor Julian Simon when I was in high school. He had written a masterpiece on the economics of population control (book tagged in comment). Our letters started with a “fan” letter from me. I‘ve read recent studies proving Simon was ahead of his time. An important issue to understand thoroughly.

For a while I have been looking for a chapter book to do with my 6th grade boys and this is just the ticket! It hooks readers immediately, has short chapters and moves at a great pace!! I can‘t wait wait to start planning lessons around this book!!

Among the Hidden is a SF book that was a Sunshine State Young Reader Book based in the future where you can only have 2 children per household. This book is through the perspective of Luke, the shadow child in his family. He‘s not aloud to go near windows because of the fear that someone might see him. He meets a fellow shadow child named Jen. She wants to rebel at the capitol but she is killed when she gets there along with 39 other shadow

I'm 11 and I like books for older kids - like the Fault in Our Stars, or Paper Towns, or Holding Up the Universe. My brother likes Harry Potter. If I could never go outside again I would be ok because I could read all day."

I've been meaning to read this for years. It was short, but captivating. I'm excited to read the rest of the series!

I enjoyed this very much! I can't find the rest of the series on audio though which is sad because I liked the narrator!

I would give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.

This was exciting and suspenseful. I'm intrigued, and I think it's a good pick for the readers we had in mind.

I'm not sure what kind of junior high librarian has never read this book, 😁 so I intend to remedy that tomorrow because one of our SPED teachers wants to know if it would be a good one for her English class. Any input, teachers?
