Another lovely graphic novel in this series. I like how different topics are treated, where respect, acceptance and support are always present. This time is how Nick and Charlie express their love to each other, Charlie‘s eating disorder, Nick uncertain how to come out with his dad and new school goals. Lovely♥️♥️♥️Don‘t know how to rate graphic novels🤷🏽‍♀️4⭐️?

Such a positive comic series. Things get pretty intense in this volume, but under all the drama and stress there is always love and support. Very uplifting.

I am utterly blown away by the fourth instalment! Never have I had the pleasure of reading such realistic and cognizant mental health representation. Vol 4 explores in greater depth the extent of Charlie's battle with mental illness, anorexia and OCD, and while Oseman shows there is no quick fix for mental health struggles, they also show how things do get better, an internal struggle most of us have a very hard time believing. Heart warming 🍃🩷.

#20in4 #SummerEndReadathon #RushAThon #SeriesLove2023

My last book read for September, this is such a sweet series. This one deals with mental health issues & eating disorders but still remain a romance between two young men.

Thanks to @Laughterhp & her #AuldLangSpine list for getting me to read book 1. Now I really do need to watch the Netflix show.

CatLass007 Are you doing this as part of a buddy read? I‘m curious because I enjoy graphic novels and was sort of looking for a graphic novel buddy read. 1y

Listening to this song while reading the last few pages of Heartstopper #4 is what made me enjoy this volume more than I did before. This one handles heavier topics that definitely made me want to give everyone the firmest of hugs. I love, love and how the relationships created in this series continuously highlight the ups and downs of all relationship types and the work that‘s necessary to keep and evolve in and with them. Get your tissues ready.

Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover @TheIntrovertedDodoBird I had to tag you and ask if you also listened to the song while reading. It made the reading experience richer for me. 🥹 1y

Kinda book related, but I just finished Heartstopper 2, and I officially need to gush! Ooh, my goodness 🩷🍃. I loved it MORE than the first season! All the feels (a literal emotional roller coaster) bundled into something joyous, wholesome, and so meaningful, with serious themes handled with care. Words can't express how important these graphic novels/ shows are! The representation is above & beyond. How can we wait a year after that cliffhanger?

TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover heyy! You once commented on my post "one ace to another" while obsessing over Heartstopper Season 2, so I thought I'd tag you and say, OMG! SEASON 2 WAS AMAZING ???. Thank you! The ace storyline was a big fat ray of ????♠️ sunshine, and I loved seeing us in a show! ?? x 1y

Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover @TheIntrovertedDodoBird 👋🏾 🙌🏾 yess! You‘ve made it through season 2 🥹. The ace storyline was treated with care. I hope to see more ace representation in media. 😂 it‘s like a unicorn effect for me when I do see it. I‘m hopeful that we have more focus on Isaac and where they reside on the ace spectrum. The ace experience goes beyond just attraction. Fingers crossed that they communicate that in the upcoming season. 🖤🩶🤍💜🤗 1y

Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover @TheIntrovertedDodoBird 😅 I guess we‘ll@have to rewatch seasons 1 and 2 or reread the series until the new season premieres. 😮‍💨 it truly is a hangover after all the feels. Isn‘t it? 1y
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover I did! 🥹 I smiled like a fool most of the way through 😂. I really hope so! I would looooove that 🤗. Same! Delving deeper into the ace spectrum would be wonderful for season 3. I have full faith in Alice Oseman 😊. It will help with some of the misinformation surrounding asexuality and/or aromanticism, and we go beyond lack of attraction and/or romantic attraction and explore Isaac on a deeper level! 🖤🩶💜🤍 1y
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover Isaac really grew in this season instead of being a background character, and it would be really refreshing that they show that there's so much happiness in platonic relationships 🤗. I'd loooove to see more of him! Right?! That's my exact plan 😂. I'll probably be able to recite all of the lines soon 😆. And we have the 5th graphic novel in December! 🤩. You're so right! I want something equally as wholesome! 🤗 1y
Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover @TheIntrovertedDodoBird when you find something that‘s comparable to this series, please keep me in mind and let me know. 🤗 1y
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover I definitely will 🤗. Wish me luck! I'm planning on rewatching Red, White & Royal Blue for the second time for some good vibes 🩷. You too! I'd love any recommendations! 1y

This was heavier in topics than the previous ones. This is about Charlie‘s ED and Nick trying to help him. There‘s a lot to unpack. I feel so bad for them both, and therefore felt so proud when they went through their desired paths. This is all about mental health and the person who loves you struggling to help. Adore Nicks relationship with his mom. I feel him so much in figuring out the “fix my s/o” pit of worry.

So far my least favorite of the series, it was still a fun read. I think I'm just getting tired of the same old troubles being rehashed in every book. Yet I still love Nick and Charlie. I just wish this series moved a little faster.

Heavier topics are covered here, but Nick and Charlie are just as loveable. ⚠️ Look up trigger warnings ⚠️
LIKES
- Nick and Charlie
- The way Oseman handles the nuances of young love. So well done!
- The focus on all relationships (friends, siblings, therapist, teachers..)
DISLIKES
- I turn to Heartstopper as an uplifting, light, happy read. This was sad..but important. The tough topics were handled well. Relationships aren't all ☀️ & 🌈 💯.

Charlie & Nick are officially a couple now. However, Charlie is still facing his eating disorder, & Nick has to come out to his dad. Will the 2 say I love you to each other?

This one was ok. Not as great as the other ones before. I wish there was more romance. I get the eating disorder awareness, but I think that kind of took over the story. I liked that we got to know more about Nick though.

Volume 4 is the first one that extends well beyond the Netflix season 1 plot arc. With the themes she choose to explore here and the way she did it I kept expecting to find this one sickly sweet and get annoyed with it, but I never did. It was just as heartwarming as the earlier volumes. It‘s actually a pretty rare gift to read a series that‘s so purely uplifting.

Oh, I love this series. It was so refreshing to read about a character struggling with their mental health in a way that was both realistic and hopeful.

Oh yes, this is exactly what I needed. There's a more detailed look at one of the main characters dealing with ED and mental health, in a constructive, positive way, but just FYI if that's likely to trigger. I LOVE all the relationships (and identities) consistently given time on the pages, especially the deepening of Charlie and Nick's. 🥰 That dinner scene with the Dad and brother? SO cathartic. 😤 Charlie's sister is a badass.

So I have to say that this volume really got a bit heavy but it does show what some people go through and how it affects them and everything and everyone around them. But Alice really focuses on how you need a support system and how you can‘t just try to help them on your own.

There are still some cute moments between Nick, Charlie and their friends. It's not just angst though out the book.

shanaqui Yeah, I did really appreciate the message that Nick couldn't just help Charlie by himself! 2y

Are you sick of me yet?

This series is just so delightful. And it's one of those things that I don't really think can be overhyped. If you are at all interested in the premise (a slice of life graphic novel about kids finding themselves, falling in love, and growing up with a beautifully supportive friend group), you're gonna love this. Full stop.

I read volumes 3 and 4 this weekend, and they are so awesome. They‘re not fluffy and you should be prepared for hard topics, but the core relationships at the heart of this series are wonderful. And Alice Oseman does such a great job of capturing the feeling of falling in love at any age. 💗

Similairly to the last volume, this part of the series was a lot more serious and in general a lot deeper (if that makes sense) I still really enjoyed and couldn't stop reading it. Though it still had some cute and lighthearted moments, it tackled more serious issues and I think it is important for this kind of representation to be shown as well.
