Got this a Goodwill. I got an amazing (to me) find but you have to wait to see it 😁

Question: What are your thoughts on resale/thrift shops selling ARCs?

Leftcoastzen Honestly, I think they don‘t even notice . 2y

I read this Feb 8-9 and gave it 3 ⭐️. I just didn‘t enjoy it as much as I did Wishful Drinking. There is nothing wrong with Fisher‘s writing and I would even say I may be suffering a bit of a book hangover, which impacted my enjoyment of this book.

Shockaholic completes my experience with memoirs by Carrie Fisher. I like audio because she narrates, & I appreciate the short length because some celebrity memoirs are start dragging at the end. This one is hilarious in the beginning, but a lot of it is about her relationship w/ her father & his death. She also talks about caregiving for several dying friends. Of course, it made me think of her death, I hope she had a good friend w/ her.

It‘s both wonderful & sad to have Carrie‘s voice in my ears. I really love how witty & funny she is as she tells her story. Another great thing is that balance of how much she cares & at the same time how few f***s she has to give. A quick, fun listen that‘s an easy recommend to anyone.

I listened to this and despite listening to several other of her memoirs I still never tire of hearing Carrie Fisher tell stories from her incredible life. She was always very candid and does not hold anything back in many of the anecdotes from this book either whether telling of her electroshock therapy or her complicated relationship with her father.

In my Goodreads review, Wishful Drinking was the party and Shockaholic was the hangover. Interesting at times but otherwise depressing. #audiobook

I really, really love Carrie Fisher, and she is funny and blunt and honest and tender in this one. The Michael Jackson part was weird, though.

1. Read a lot of inappropriate adult books. Don't remember any series at all.
2. I got the word funger out of a Carrie Fisher book so I choose that one as my fave of 2017.
3. No hated character. At least not one I actually read.
4. All of them. 😂👍

CarolynM Inappropriate adult books, yep, me too👍 I thought about offering James Bond as my favourite childhood series, but decided to stick with the spirit of the question😀 7y

I always love listening to Carrie Fisher, she was wonderfully off-color, smart, and kind of a smart ass. I don‘t know if I‘m just more emotional, or if it was the tone of this particular book, but I cried a lot more with this one than I did while listening to her other memoirs. 💜💜💜

Finishing out Carrie Fisher's memoirs. Full of the wit and sadness you would expect. Interesting perspectives on Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, and Ted Kennedy (note MJ seems like only one you'd actually want to associate with). This is basically a combination of Fisher's thoughts on ECT and celebrity culture (/celebrities). I just wish I had more of her stories to read. I'll get to the novels eventually.

Just finished the final memoir (that I had left to read. This is the second one chronologically) by Carrie Fisher. She often references what will happen after she dies. I just about lost it. 💔 love her so much

After reading The Princess Diarist, this is the next Carrie Fisher book I got from on hold at the library. Nothing like reading backwards! Anyway, I definitely enjoyed this more than PD, and found a lot of fascinating little tidbits here. Learning about her relationships with Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, her stepfather Harry Karl and her dad Eddie Fisher gave an interesting glimpse into the life of a celebrity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recommended!

JenlovesJT47 The story about her dinner date with Ted Kennedy is worth the price of admission alone! 😂😂😂 Love her sense of humor. #carriefisher 💔 8y

This book was very engaging and funny and rambling too, just like I like biographies and memoirs to be! It's more of a snapshot of Fisher's life than all of it, but at 156 pages, I don't think it could be much else. I have The Princess Diarist to read soon, so am hoping for more fun and Star Wars/Harrison Ford stories to come!

I really enjoyed Fisher's frank approach to some difficult topics, and the humour she wove into her recollections. The second half focusing on her friendship with Michael Jackson, and relationship with her father and Elizabeth Taylor was interesting, but I really appreciated the first part of the book, where she talked openly about her mental state and decision to try shock treatments.

I liked this one more than Wishful Drinking. It had more in depth stories, but less of a theme overall. I do find it interesting that most of Carrie's stories are about her parents and not herself. I'm wondering if that will be the same with Princess Diarist as well.
