I‘ve had this plant for years. It has flowered! The flower is so dainty. I didn‘t realise it could. It gets a water every few months. It thrives on lack of love or maybe it just likes being near my feminist shelf.

This was literally one of my favorite autobiographies I‘ve ever read. She was like you think this is a book about me?? PSYCH!! I‘m using my platform to talk about all the BIPOC women who influenced me and showing you their work. Beautifully done.
absolute killer of a dedication. this book allows us to journey with Gloria as she reveals the extraordinary in ordinary life and her call to action for the freedom of all. she shares her life as a global freedom fighter, inviting readers to continue the journey - and the struggle. a revolutionary woman who helped steer the women‘s movement while acknowledging her privilege as a white woman to take on that role.
Yay! Finally got Bingo for a month, #bookspin #bookspinbingo Not sure what next month will hold since my thesis proposal is due. Looking forward to getting more time to read...especially as I continue to buy more books than I can read
“In truth, we don‘t know which of our acts in the present will shape the future. But we have to behave as if everything we do matters. Because it might.” I‘ve had this book on my shelf forever. So happy I finally took the time to read it (we‘ll re-read since I started it years ago). I really loved learning more about Steinem‘s activism & all she‘s accomplished. I was finally able to get bingo for the month #bookspinbingo
Gloria Steinem is just magic. I loved this book about her life and her activism. If you're looking for something easy and inspirational, this is a great choice.
#WindsofMarch #Roadtrip
@Eggs I missed some days of Winds of March. I had a bit of a health issue, but am now back. Behind on some book reviews too.
Hope you had a great weekend!
My #bookspin list for the month of March. I made it intentional to have all books by women or about women for Women‘s History month. Looking forward to getting to read a few of these this month. #bookspinbingo
On sale on kindle in the US today. I really liked this book when I listened to it, her stories of her travels and the people she‘s meet on the way who influenced her made for a great read.
I learned a lot from Steinem here through a wide variety of anecdotes of hers and others she listened to in her travels. It is definitely the kind of education that makes you want to scream with anger at the senselessness and selfishness of people and then go do something about it. I was set off-kilter by the lack of chronological order and the overwhelming amount of anecdotes, though. It has certainly inspired me to check out Ms. magazine.
Here‘s hoping we never have LESS people voting in any elections compared with this last one. All elections matter. It IS the least we can do in democracy.
Boom.
PS I did not highlight in this book. I got it in a free little library box. I would never highlight a book 😳 Pencil? Yes, that can be erased. Not highlighter. This person also dog-eared pages...aaaaaaaahhhhhhh
Gloria Steinem learns by talking with people from different races and backgrounds.A feminist spokewoman that understands the relationship between sexism, racism, homophobia and classism and that shows us how to distinguish the instruments of oppression by sharing stories. This book is not only about feminism,is about how we can build a better democracy, one where each person counts, where everyone speaks and listens; a democracy of talking circles.
"An older man...says that the Bible forbids abortion in its commandment "Thou shall not kill".But being in the Bible belt, people really know their Bible,an older woman cites Exodus 21:22-23, a passage that says a man who causes a woman to miscarry must pay a fine but is not charged with murder, not unless the woman herself dies. Thus the Bible is making clear that dependant life is not the same as independent life."
Wait a second... a document written by men didn't make sure to explicitly recognise the freedom of choice of women? SHOCKER!
I'm planning to start reading the books selected by Our Shared Shelf next year with the purpose of becoming a better feminist and anti racist.Went to buy the first one and found these badges♥️I'm also starting a bookclub with my nephews to read all the Roal Dahl books and want to keep advancing on my never ending TBR. Might repeat Reese's bookclub,I did it this year to move away from my all classics comfort zone.Anyone has exciting reading plans?
Really enjoying this book so far.
"When humans are ranked instead of linked, everyone loses." ~ Gloria Steinem
There are some interesting observations in this collection of memories from a life of travelling to organize, speak, and write. One of my favorites is when a rough looking couple attending a motorcycling convention approaches Steinem and her friend in a diner. They expect trouble, but then the couple tells her how much they appreciate her work. But overall, I just didn't find the storytelling very compelling.
“Not even in a movie had I ever seen a wife with a journey of her own. Marriage was always the happy end, not the beginning. It was the 1950s, and I confused growing up with settling down.” 🤱🏻👰🏻🙇🏻♀️
This is an interesting #audiobook with stories from Gloria Steinem‘s childhood, life, and career all the way through age 74. I didn‘t know much about her, so it was especially nice to hear about how her worldview developed over time. #feminism Photo: Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes, photographed by Dan Wynn, 1971.
#riotgrams day 13 best dedication. Especially relevant in these scary times
I do no #Justice by allowing books to sit unread on my shelves 🙄These two books both sound excellent. Andy Warhol‘s cross country road trip in the 1960‘s and Gloria Steinem‘s road adventures during the same decade helped influence and shape both their lives. #ShesLeavingHome #BehindTheWheel #MayMovieMagic #BeatleMaynia #StarTrekSummerMay
I'm embarrassed to say this is the first thing I have ever read by Steinem but I'm happy to say I really enjoyed it and I'm sure it won't be the last. So many great stories and lessons! I genuinely feel like I learned a few things from a new "friend." On a side note, someone went to the Flower District this weekend and picked up some flowers. Can you guess who? ?
With three days at the airport last week, you‘d think I‘d get through my reading. Nope, but I did consume the flight attendant section while in the air. Also, I didn‘t realize how much time Steinem spent in my home state of Oklahoma.
I found this memoir totally engrossing.
I have a couple more in-progress books, so I'm probably not done reading for the year, but I hit my goal! #24B42019 @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65
Great book! Gloria Steinem is an intelligent woman who had lived a fascinating life. This book could have doubled in length and would have still kept me entertained. I learned a lot and she gave me more to think about and consider.
Now featuring a timeless collection curated by thee Gloria Steinem! #authorsbookshelf
Continuing my excursion into feminist lit and loving every second of it.
I just finished my first Gloria Steinem and feel like - Yes! Breathe in the feminism, breathe out the bullshit. 🤩🏋️♀️👩⚖️
This is my first introduction to Gloria Steinem and I'm in love! Over the years I knew she was a leading feminist and I'm so glad I'm getting to her a little through her work. I want to read everything she's ever written. Hurray for Gloria!
A fabulous memoir about Steinem's life and travels across the US and the world and her experiences with the awesome power of women.
To being #independent and responsible.
Quote is chosen randomly. Although, I wish to get to the tagged book sometime. #QuotsyJuly18 @TK-421
32:52-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟-I am so glad I bought this book -$1.99 on kindle and read it! She is so inspirational. She is a talented writer with powerful and profound messages. The women‘s movement and civil right movement is fortunate to have her as an organizer and advocate. I must read more about her and watch the documentaries about her. I highly recommend this book!!!
Happy Saturday! Since I am unable to sleep, I decided to finish reading the 20 pages of this gem! The last few days have been difficult to focus due to the pain medication, but I think I can get this one completed today. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
This a great book and she references another great book, Just Mercy. Everyone in US should read Just Mercy! It should be required homework for every citizen.
