From French writer Colette on finding a letter from her long dead mother: “How strange: one can successfully “hold” oneself very well in the hardest hours. But then, someone makes a friendly gesture behind a window, one notices a blossom which was just a bud yesterday - or a letter slips from a drawer - and everything falls apart.”
For a long time I couldn‘t bring myself to check the sound because I knew it wouldn‘t why are you on my mobile device but just now, while I was downloading e-books on my e-reader I decided to see if it would run on my computer. And what shall I say❓It does. I already listened to the first letter. Queen Elizabeth II writing her omelette-recipe down for Dwight Eisenhower. 🙂 A funny little introduction.
🖌Reading this put me in mourning for the lost art of letter writing. I enjoyed this book so much. I was surprised, amused and moved by it. Every page brought something different. A really lovely book to dip in and out of.📫
This is a book I‘ve recommended over and over again to anyone who will listen. Some amazing & interesting historical letters in here. Never dry or boring. And it‘s on sale for Kindle today.
Check it out! You won‘t regret it!

Behind Dec 1 door number 1 for my #Adventrecommends are these 3 books. I love the heartfelt emotions these letters pour out on the page. Each one is a walk through history as it affects common individuals. They would make a great supplement for a history class or the perfect gift for a history buff in your life. I recommend these all the time and can‘t do so enough.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently read this through Libby and I wish I had a little bit longer than the 21 day loan period to savor this book of letters. So many fascinating letters from everyday people to famous and historical people like Elvis Presley, Queen Elizabeth, Roald Dahl, Churchill, Einstein and Da Vinci. At times there were photographed copies of the written letters. Truly an interesting read.
One of my favorite “coffee table” books I own is “Letters of Note”, a compilation of various letters of correspondence including a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to president Eisenhower including her scone recipe. But one of the letters that‘s always fascinated me is this one written by someone claiming to be Jack the Ripper

I first saw this book full of #letters from and to interesting people throughout history including Da Vinci, Roald Dahl and Emily Dickinson at the Edinburgh Book Festival (which is so good by the way) and I‘ve considered buying it a few times since ! It sounds pretty fascinating 😊 #NEWYEARREADS

Another fabulous letter from @TrishB - such a pleasure to receive your lovely thoughtful letters 😁😁 Thank you so much for the bookish goodies - too kind. I love the bag - illustrations by Axel Scheffler have been a big part of my life these past few years. Fantastic coaster, bookmarks and postcards - the 'Early Warning Signs of Fascism' one looks horribly familiar! Another great pin for my collection too. 😘😘 Enjoy tonight!! #litsypenpals
E. B. White's words are just as relevant now as they were in1973. Perhaps more so.
"Man's curiosity, his relentlessness, his inventiveness, his ingenuity have led him into deep trouble. We can only hope that the same traits will enable him to claw his way out."
LETTERS LIVE yesterday at the Edinburgh International Festival 😍 Ian McShane, Downton's Harriet Walter, Sherlock's Molly, Peep Shows's Robert Webb (whom i had just seen minutes earlier at #edbookfest, chaired by Richard Holloway, who also read letters), John Niven (whom I saw the day before that), some National Theatre actors I didn't know, two musicians I didn't know, two comedians I didn't know, uhm and Nichola Sturgeon (!!!)
Got back last night. I just finished going through ALL of the email since we left. Yes, it took most of the day. Now I am taking a hot bath, and no I'm not going outside. I'll see if I can brain enough to read afterward.
Book 2 in #24in48 #readathon was finishing this great book. Loved the variety.

Dear Sir I for one feel confident that your good judgment will carry America safely through without War. But in case of such an event I am ready to place a company of fifty lady sharpshooters at your disposal. Every one of them will be an American and as they will furnish their own Arms and Ammunition will be little if any expense to the government. Very truly Annie Oakley

It's hard to describe how lovely this book is to read, it just makes you love humanity, i can't explain why..but i recommend it to anyone who will listen 😊
Just put this on my Christmas list. My brother is getting it for me. I can't wait 😀#bookishgifts
I won this book from @bookriot and it was just delivered today! After glancing through it, Ayn Rand's letter to Cat Fancy magazine jumped out at me. (Please note that I have volume 2 which is not in the Litsy database.)
I received Letters of Note Vol. 1 from my parents for Christmas 2014 & thought it was the prettiest book I'd ever seen. So I was thrilled when I won Vol. 2 from the #LibraryThing Early Reviewers program. (My first time to EVER win an online book giveaway!) Only 40 pages in so far, but Vol. 2 seems to have the same combo of beautiful, high-quality images & a diverse array of letters as Vol. 1. Definitely recommend these to any lover of letters!
That's what I call happy mail! Got my copy of Vol. 2 of Letters of Note from LibraryThing and Chronicle Books. Really looking forward to digging in to it! 🤓🎁
Could there a book that, in some way, appeals to everyone? If it is possible, Jess would lay a solid bet that Letters of Note could be that book.
