#Top20Series #20series20days

The Nina Borg series is fabulous, provided you're not looking for a feel-good read! The first two in this series were practically perfect. I wasn't as into the third and haven't read the fourth (and last) book yet, but intend to. This also counts towards this month's #womenintranslation challenge #integrateyourshelf

Nute I didn‘t know this book was part of a series. The title is scaring me!😱 (edited) 4y

@Tove_Reads @gradcat @Andrew65 @EadieB I just borrowed this book, not read this author, have you all read? Opinion?#nordicnoir

EadieB @Crazeedi I read it in 2011. Gave it 4 stars. I have the 2nd book too but have not read it yet. Read these by the author too:
Madeleine Karno Mystery
1. Doctor Death (2015)
2. A Lady in Shadows (2017)

(edited) 5y
Tove_Reads Haven‘t read it 5y
Andrew65 Not heard of these, will have to do some research. 5y

jb72 I read the book in 2013 and I gave it 3 stars. I remember it taking a minute to get into and it jumps around a bit. But overall I did like it. 5y
Crazeedi @EadieB thanks!! 5y
Crazeedi @Tove_Reads well I'll let you know! 5y
Crazeedi @jb72 thanks for info!! 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I hadn't heard of it either, but since we've been reading #nordicnoir I thought I'd see what ibthink 5y
Crazeedi @EadieB didnt know there was another series 5y
Crazeedi @EadieB thank you Eadie!! 5y
Dogearedcopy I avoided it for a long time because I thought it was about a boy's corpse discovered in a suitcase... Turns out that this is not true! 🙄
I found the protagonist difficult to relate to and while I can recall most of the plot even after having read it years ago, I haven't felt the impulse to read the next in the series. So--- 3.5 stars
5y
Crazeedi @Dogearedcopy well that certainly tells me about the book, appreciate giving me an idea if I might like! I'll probably start, and if I'm not interested I'll bail, 5y
gradcat I read something about this book, but heaven knows I can‘t remember if it was positive or negative. Sounds like it might be good for #nordicnoir for sure. @Crazeedi 5y
Crazeedi @gradcat I'll let you know what I think 5y
gradcat @Crazeedi The title is rather frightening, isn‘t it? 😱 😂 ♥️ 5y
Crazeedi @gradcat yes it is, so we will see! 5y

This wasn't my typical genre & there were a few surprises for me. I enjoyed the audio book, but I'm not sure if I was enough of a fan to read the next book in the series when there are so many other books already on my TBR.

I have a few minutes before leaving for work, so I'm using it to knit a little on my husband's birthday socks and listen to my audiobook. Trying to finish both of these today.

Mdargusch Nice socks! 7y
Valink @Mdargusch - thank you! I accidentally made one toe up and the other cuff down, so they don't exactly match, but, 🤷‍♀️ 7y

Started a new audio book this morning. I think this fits the #nordicnoir prompt for the #PopSugar reading challenge. It would also fit for #twoauthors but I have something else planned for that one. #Pop18 #popsugar2018 #PopSugarReadingChallenge

ferskner I love this series! 7y
MissAimz_55 I just added this to my list for Nordic noir! 7y
Valink @ferskner - I didn‘t realize this was part of a series! 7y
Valink @MissAimz_55 - there are quite a few characters that get introduced early on & I found that a bit confusing, but I think I have everyone straight now. I‘m enjoying it so far! 7y
ferskner Yes! I think there are only four, so it's not too overwhelming. 7y

Plane reading fron February. I can never focus on "literature" when traveling -- to much noise distraction in the airport and on the plane. Thank goodness there are so many good international mystery series out there! The tagged book was the best, follwed by The Fallen. Limassol is a non- traditional mystery, so not what I needed. And thank goodness Outsider wasn't my introduction to the series.

2017 #62 mystery audio what the heck is up with scandiavian thrillers that have such uncomfortable subject matter. Very weird but well told. Not sure I will actively commit myself to the series but the leap from kids books to this must have been a shock to their fan base.

#FeistyFeb I have not yet read the two titles on top but both have been in my #TBR for a very long time. The bottom three, I've read and would easily recommend. Boys in the Boat is a nonfiction, a bookclub choice, which was a bit of a dry read but still very informative and interesting. #BoyInTitle

KarenUK I love 'boy snow bird'... and 'One in a million' is on my TBR... must get to it soon! 💕 8y

The problem with starting a random book when you can't sleep in the middle of the night is that it ends up being good and makes you put aside your actual current read.

Can't sleep. The book I'm actually reading is downstairs and I don't want to go down and get it, in case I get distracted by TV or editing (or the slice of cake in the fridge). I'm curled up in the guest room, so I picked this off my used book (aka read whenever) shelf instead. Although now that I'm in here, I'm a little sleepy ... 🙄 #augustofpages #augustphotochallenge

A decent story. So many players that kept the mystery moving forward. While it was easy for me to figure out where the boy came from/where he belonged, I did not see the plot twist around his story coming. This would make a great movie, if done right.

This book has an interesting premise: a woman who doesn't drink wakes up in the hospital intoxicated with memory loss & without her 3 year-old boy; another woman takes a suitcase from a locker and finds a 3 year-old boy in it. And you're off! The audio's narrator is excellent; but the plot never wow's for all of its tautness, and the characters are rather limp despite their actions. Interesting but forgettable. Pair with: Aalborg Jubileaum, sip!

HiddenGemBooks The plot seems interesting! 8y
PrezBookster Damn I've always wanted to read this! 8y
Texreader @PrezBookster I liked it a bit more than @mrbook even though I have the highest regard for his opinion. I think it was worth the read. Check my post on it. @cookiejanester It is interesting although you do sort of figure it out partway through. Would you agree @mrbook? 8y

Texreader @mrbook @PrezBookster @cookiejanester I love Danish mystery writer Jussi Adler-Olsen if you like Scandinavian mystery writers. 8y
MrBook @cookiejanester It is an interesting plot. I'm glad I read the book to see how the author ran with the plot, but I wouldn't re-read it or go out of my way to recommend it. 8y
MrBook @PrezBookster lol. Try it on audio, the narrator does an absolutely amazing job. It's well worth it just to listen to her dramatize. Yeah, she's one of those...reeaally reeaally good. 8y
MrBook @Texreader No one book can please everybody equally, right? Well, except maybe "To Kill A Mockingbird", lol. I did figure most of it out a little before the half-way point. Also, it seemed to me that some of the plot dragged out for the sake of meeting a minimum word-count. At one point I was saying, "Okay, she's got some issues. You already brought this up two or three times, move it along, this is a thriller!" ? 8y
MrBook @Texreader I'll check Jussi out, thanks for the rec 😊👍🏻. 8y
Texreader @MrBook Good points. It did feel a little like a first novel. But I have a soft spot for first novelists. 8y
VeryLazyDaisy I read a couple chapters of this and abandoned it. It didn't draw me in, though I may just need to try it in a different state of mind/ 8y
MrBook @VeryLazyDaisy I can understand that. Maybe audio would be the option for you, great narrator. 8y
Jdscott50 I liked learning about the regional history history and the issues more than the plot. The end did drag a bit (felt the Monty Python cry, "get on with it!"). I think this is the second in the series? I think only the second and fourth have been translated. 8y
Coleen Ah -- I think we agreed on this one. 😜 8y
releasekarma I read this a year ago or so and I can't remember a single thing about it aside from the boy in the suitcase. Haha 8y
MrBook @Texreader @Jdscott50 @Coleen @releasekarma I don't feel as bad now giving it a so-so rating. Glad to see we share common thoughts about it! 😊👍🏻 8y

A straightforward mystery with a nurse-detective, who has a psychologically damaged history, clearly meant to be developed in subsequent books. Not much effort to determine the motive about halfway through. But the "boy" is lovable and you will root for him and read to the end to see if he reaches his destiny. On to Book 2 in the Nina Borg series, the Invisible Murder.

Well, my first #24in48 #readathon sure didn't go as planned. My reading was interrupted by 2 family birthdays, a BBQ, 2 book club meetings, and a (seriously awesome) Guns'n'Roses concert! 🔫🌹🤘🏻I still managed to squeeze in almost 15 hours of reading thanks to audiobooks.
