The perfect life. The perfect love. The perfect lie. From the bestselling author of The Girl Before comes a gripping new psychological thriller. . . . "Dynamic, razor-sharp, and thought-provoking . . . a cutting-edge suspense novel unlike any you've read before."--Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author of The Good Girl Abbie awakens in a daze with no memory of who she is or how she landed in this unsettling condition. The man by her side claims to be her husband. He's a titan of the tech world, the founder of one of Silicon Valley's most innovative start-ups. He tells Abbie that she is a gifted artist, an avid surfer, a loving mother to their young son, and the perfect wife. He says she had a terrible accident five years ago and that, through a huge technological breakthrough, she has been brought back from the abyss. She is a miracle of science. But as Abbie pieces together memories of her marriage, she begins to question her husband's motives--and his version of events. Can she trust him when he says he wants them to be together forever? And what really happened to her, half a decade ago? Beware the man who calls you . . . THE PERFECT WIFE Advance praise for The Perfect Wife "A twisty, completely original psychological thriller that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go until the very end."--Karen Cleveland, New York Times bestselling author of Need to Know "Seriously, amazingly, awesomely brilliant . . . speculative fiction mixed up with a mind-bendingly twisty psycho thriller! I devoured it."--C. J. Tudor, author of The Chalk Man "A tour de force . . . The Perfect Wife is a chilling and uniquely disturbing twenty-first-century twist on the unreliable narrator that makes for a compulsive and deeply thought-provoking book. It asks troubling questions about selfhood and 'souls' and what makes us human, and plays them out in a compelling psychological thriller."--Cara Hunter, author of Close to Home

A widower, a big name of the tech world, brings his late wife back to life as an AI able to learn and to feel emotions.
It's a very interesting psychological thriller that offers a lot of food for thought about technology and so-called progress. The plot is intelligently built and very well written. And of course, it's quite entertaining.

A perfectly evil premise is at work here...creating a robot AI or “cobot” of one‘s wife after she has died. Thought-provoking, in a, could this be our future kind of way. Interwoven with a mysterious death and a feel for what it‘s like to live with an autistic child, and I was thoroughly hooked. Sadly though, the ending felt rushed and cluttered with too many reveals that left me feeling somewhat confused by the end.

I really liked the concept of this one. It reminded me a bit of The Stepford Wives. It was a thriller and a cautionary tale about technology and what can happen in the future if we take things too far. It was definitely an interesting book with a good plot, but the ending just fell flat for me and at points I just wasn‘t really feeling super connected with the characters. I love JP Delaney, but this one wasn‘t really my favorite.

I was worried I was not going to like this book once I realized it was about robots and AI. I was worried it was going to be sci-fi like but it exceeded my expectations!

Vicki1109 I liked it too. Have you read his other book, The Girl Before? It's really good, better than this one was. 4y

I was surprised at how much I was into this. It‘s a little bit sci-fi which threw me off at first because I‘m a strictly thriller kinda girl, so I was naughty and bias and rolled my eyes, but omg was I smashing through this because I was dying to know what happens next. The other 2 from this author were more my typical read however I probably enjoyed this the most.

WHAT did I just read??? The narrator is a Cobot (a companion robot) built in the exact likeliness of the creator‘s wife. The wife is either missing or dead. They are both named Abbie. Did I mention that the cobot is programmed with many of the original Abbie‘s memories, not all of course, AND it has been programmed to have empathy? Oh, and Tim, the husband/creator is a real peach as well. I had no clue what was going to happen next! So good!!!!

sci-fi domestic thriller. I don‘t read sci-fi so I didn't enjoy it as a sci-fi reader would. Abbie wakes in a daze - no memory. Man claims to be her husband. terrible accident 5 years ago. Her husband has a technological breakthrough and brings her back. Abbie questions his motive. Can she trust him? Abbie is dealing with Danny, her autistic son. I found the book a bit creepy. It had a chilling ending. Found it entertaining if you like sci-fi.

So disappointed with this book, compared to The Girl Before, which I rated 5*! This was hugely unbelievable, too ‘wordy‘, with a confusing narrative. I‘m not at all interested in AI/robots so maybe someone who is would enjoy this book more.

I have been a special needs educator for several years, predominantly working with children that have autism. After reading a section of this book I researched the author and found out he has a son with autism. This being said I hope that this author will become more educated on autism and stop spreading lies about autism. I.e. “A child with autism will never be able to say I love you to their parent.” Autism is a spectrum. This broke my heart.

Meghan1 That‘s such a shame that he generalized so much! My 9 year old boy has autism and he tells me he loves me all the time! 5y
AllieLovesBooks @meghan1 💙 aww what a sweetheart! Yes, take my advice and don‘t read this one he writes around 10 lies about children with autism in a row and it just made me sick to my stomach. 5y
Meghan1 That‘s terrible, especially if he has a son with autism! 5y

Meghan1 We try our best, but he is an amazing kid all on his own! 5y
jewright My six year old son has autism, and he is very loving. His main challenges were conversation, but he learned I love you early. One of the social skills we are working on now is asking permission to hug people because he wants to hug everyone. 5y
AllieLovesBooks @jewright ❤️ how sweet! That‘s another thing the author wrote about not being able to hug a child with autism! I was like what?! 5y
AmyK1 @jewright My almost 17 year old son with autism is still working on asking permission to hug people. We‘re getting there though. He also tells us all the time that he loves us. 5y

Told mostly in the POV of Abbie (2.0), the cobot Tim created in his wife Abbie‘s image, we watch as she learns and grows in her role as replacement Abby. She soon appears to become sentient, and sets upon figuring out what happened to the real Abbie.

I really enjoyed this novel. It‘s full of suspense &small twists. There were times I felt there was little too much info dump. But overall it was a book that I found hard to put down. 3.75⭐️s

Well, this seemed creepy all the way through to me! I had a feeling there was more to Tim than met the eye and I actually really liked cobot Abbie. The ending was very clever... I had a little cheer for the goodies! I would‘ve liked to know more about the secondary characters, Lisa, jenny and Charles, but I guess the point was that they were secondary to the intensity of Abbie and Tim. Definitely worth reading, much like the others from Delaney.

Thanks, #NetGalley for the chance to read Delaney‘s third thriller! This suspenseful read has two different perspectives that at first take some getting used to- from the second-person “you” in one half, to “we” in the other, from an unnamed source... the pages are easy to keep turning and I felt at the edge of my seat for most of the book! It‘s unique for the genre, and fast-paced. Highly recommended!!

I am not normally into robotic type things and thought I may struggle with this book a bit but nope I was swept up into the plot until the very last page. Abbie wakes up five years after an accident only to discover she had died and her husband brought her back in the form of a robot who looks like her original person... but is he telling her the full truth?
