Before BookTok and authors interviews on Zoom, there was the 2008 groundbreaking Web interview of Eckard Tolle by Oprah to discuss A New Earth for her Book Club. I was teaching Marketing at the time, and encouraged my students to turn on their computers that night to watch. Much to everyone‘s surprise the sheer volume of viewers who wanted to witness this new experience broke the Internet! The power of a book! And #Oprah! #spirituality #bookbinge

Eggs My choice too! Great minds… 1y

DivineDiana @vivastory It was an experience I will never forget. I think an email was sent to everyone and the interview took place the following night. No one saw the global response that this event would become. 🌎🌍🌏 1y

Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness. The key to personal happiness is to transcend our egos and awaken to a heightened sense of consciousness. I recommend!

This was a gorgeous book that I immediately warmed to because of the simple, straightforward way it stated truth over and over again. It resonated with me immediately and spoke to me in its gentle, but passionate practically. This is one I think I‘ll read every year just to remember what matters.

All religions are equally false and equally true, depending on how you use them. You can use them in the service of the ego, or you can use them in the service of the Truth. If you believe only your religion is true, you are using it in the service of the ego. Used in such a way, religion becomes ideology and creates an illusory sense of superiority as well as division and conflict between people.

bibliobliss In the service of Truth, religious teachings represent signposts or maps left behind by awakened humans to assist you in spiritual awakening, that is to say, in becoming free of identification with form. 3y

Ego implies unawareness. Awareness and ego cannot coexist.

At times you may have to take practical steps to protect yourself from deeply unconscious people. This you can do without making them into enemies. Your greatest protection, however, is being conscious. Somebody becomes an enemy if you personalize the unconsciousness that is the ego. Nonreaction is not weakness but strength.

I felt like this would have been more effective had it been half its length. Way too repetitive. But there were some good concepts.

At first I was overwhelmed but it quickly fell into sync with me. As with any spiritual or psychological book, you take away from it what speaks to your soul. In this case, there is so much to glean! I love the parallels between the birth and expansion of the universe—and the birth and growth of earthly life. I recommend this solidly ❤️ #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks So glad I finally read it

Eckhart is quickly becoming such a mentor as I start my journey of awakening. He hits in so many things that resonate within me. The things that don‘t eventually do every time I read it a different day. This is such a great book to keep coming back to.

I can still remember how excited I was to log on to the Web in 2008 to participate in the global Book Club for A New Earth. No one expected the legions of readers who would join me, and the system crashed! Technology has come a long way since that early experiment, and Oprah is returning to this book as a Podcast on the Supersoul App starting on Monday for 10 weeks- a chapter each week. This time my husband has already reread Chapter 1! My turn!😉

TheBookgeekFrau I remember that! Lol 6y
Karisa Oh, I was part of that too! Great read, very centering. 6y

Disclaimer - listened to the audiobook. For all the rave reviews his book got, I was a bit disappointed. I‘ve read a few other books on similar subject and didn‘t really garner much new from this book. The audio was hard to follow and the text repeats itself a lot, or changes subject fairly quick, seemingly without finishing the previous topic. Maybe I just need to read the text slowly to “get it”.

“In today‘s rush we all think too much, want too much, seek too much, and forget the joy of just Being”. #EckhartTolle #lettinggo #peace #forgiveness #love I was in Utah last month for a vacation, sabbatical, adventure and relaxation. I wasn‘t expecting anything since I am going through something in life and thought I was lost but then, I found myself in the mountains of Utah. Utah will hold a special place in my ❤️ as long as I live.

My #ORANGEYOUGLAD pick is A New Earth. I enjoyed reading it as well as those webcasts that Oprah did with Tolle years ago!

lynneamch Oh yes. Me too. I often recall his points about leaving behind one's ego and connecting with the other's true humanity. He said it so much better. An excellent read for this time and place when it's so hatd to umderstand those with whom we disagree. 8y

I've shared this book with more people than any other--basically if you receive a copy from me it's because I love you and want you to be happy. It's a fantastic, eye-opening (possibly life changing) tool that helps you to distance yourself from everyday anger and stress. Highly recommended.

Also, it matches my Raven Boys pencil case. 😊

I've had this one on my TBR for a while. Now I need to make it my next read! While I do believe that we have free will & the choice of weather or not to give in to temptation, the constant 24x7 consumption culture makes it difficult to resist each shiny new thing that promises to change our world.
