I‘ve walked passed this one in the stores many times and I don‘t know why... maybe it‘s the title. Sometimes chaos is exactly what is needed to truly feel alive. So, I didn‘t want another ‘self help‘ philosophy book because I‘ve read a few. But, I‘ve gotta give it a go. Have you read this one? How did you find it??

Pretty cool. It helped that I‘ve visited Norway in the winter so I could picture some of the scenes fairly well. Helps that Nesbo is quite good at describing the scenery and weather.

Very keen to read this as I love Boy Swallows Universe. Living in remote Far North Queensland in Australia also gives great appreciation for the descriptions of the weather, setting and characters. Loving it so far! I wonder if people outside of Australia that have never been here would truly love Trent‘s writing?

CarolynM I'm in Melbourne and I'm one of the few who really didn't like Boy Swallows Universe. I didn't think the writing was anything more than fine. Don't hate me 😬 Quite a few non Australians on here have enjoyed the book - @erofan just gave it a glowing review and she's in Russia (I think). 4y

What a wonderful book! I love the way that it was written. A great story of relationships that highlight the pain, joy and adventure of growing up. Much of this story would resonate with all human beings. The following is a song from the mind of Benjamin Trotter; ‘Mirthless merriment, sickly sentiments. So commonplace, it would bore you to tears. Give me non-stop laughter, dispel disaster. Or the Rotters‘ Club might well lop off your ears.‘

A mix of practical and spiritual approaches to daily life. I did like Chapter 6; Success In The Workplace. It highlighted the link and balance of being successful financially and spiritually through will and dedication to ones work.

Right beneath the flesh is a tremendous current.
By the pickaxes of self-realisation
I have found that Life Force again.
I and my Father are one.
I am not the flesh.
I am a bundle of electricity behind this body.

Enjoyed this book, very practical and easy to use. Already began some of the exercises and feeling good.

One of the best books I‘ve ever read. Made me truly think deeply about my life and all of the people I have known that are no longer alive. I will read this again at some stage.

A little mixed emotions finishing this. It was extremely well written but I couldn‘t truly attach to the characters and visualise them well which is definitely more my fault than the authors. It felt like a massive build up with an ending that I knew was coming but with less action.

About to begin this book.

MrB1 This story so far reminds me so much of where I am and what I am doing. I am teaching in remote FNQ Australia in an aboriginal mission called Hope Vale. There are so many similarities to this story and my job/life here. It‘s both sad and inspiring. 6y
