If you‘re a fan of Hamilton and not quite ready to tackle the time which inspired Lin-Manuel Miranda, this is the book for you. It details the extraordinary events of this controversial founding father and his wife.
This is somewhere between a so-so and a pan for me. It‘s best quality is that it‘s short.
The first part of this book is quite nice. It‘s very poetic. Cobbs has taken the available records and developed a plausible story within it. All of that falls apart in part two. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Seeing that this “old rhythm” wasn‘t originally this version and the original version didn‘t appear until 1830, after Alexander Hamilton was dead, the wouldn‘t have been an “old rhyme” to Hamilton. In fact, from what we know of him, he would have found it to be absolutely ridiculous. 🙄 Do you‘re homework Cobbs. Seriously. It took me three seconds on google. FFS

Any proof I needed that this was fiction (there is actually quite the debate online - it seems people genuinely don‘t know the difference between historical account and based on a true story) I have found right here in this one sentence.
I am entirely convinced that this is an entirely fictional man, as no male actually thinks this way. We‘ve really got to stop with the “Prince Charming” lie we tell little girls.
This will probably be the last stop on my Hamilton trip this year. It‘s for mixed reviews, so we shall see. Not the biggest fan of historical fiction, but I‘m going to give this a shot.

Tame or wild, all the animals she knew on the farm were far from dumb, though that‘s what ignorant, unimaginative people called them.
I am finally going to see Hamilton later this month and am reading the Ron Chernow biography too. However, in the interest of time I‘m glad that I picked this historical fiction version of Hamilton‘s story to read the highlights (and lowlights!) of his life. I just don‘t think I‘m going to finish the Chernow biography beforehand with the holidays approaching!
Solidly researched historical fiction about Eliza Schuyler Hamilton and her famous husband.
I read this at the same time as Ron Chernow‘s biography of Alexander Hamilton and there‘s quite a bit of overlap. Weirdly, Cobbs‘ novel reads more like a history book and Chernow‘s biography reads more like a novel.
I also found this one last week too! I‘m probably one of the few people who haven‘t read it yet!
Meet Alexander Meowilton! Adopted yesterday, and super duper loved by me, my husband, and our other cats. (Also, the book is really good!)
I got my #currentlyreading down to 7 books, so of course I had to start a new book! I bought this one a while back on sale, and so far I like it. Cobbs does well filling out Eliza and Alexander‘s early lives in the first few chapters. I‘ve heard very mixed reviews, so we‘ll see if I continue to like it!
Bedtime #bookandtea = bliss 😊
Maybe I‘ll give it another shot in the future. It‘s slow and simply not interesting at the moment. I love Hamilton but this book isn‘t working out right now.
Elizabeth Cobbs‘s historical romance is an episodic affair that gives a straightforward biographical account of the couple, which should appeal to fans of the Hamilton musical but there‘s little emotional insight here - particularly regarding his affair with Maria Reynolds and blackmail by her husband and his rivalry with Aaron Burr, James Monroe and Thomas Jefferson - and I don‘t think it adds anything to understanding either person.
A good deal this morning for fellow Hamilton fans! I have been excited to read this one.
Snore. Quit twice but guilt kept forcing me on since it‘s for book club. Read 2 pages, fell asleep, over and over. Possible spoiler alert but the affair isn‘t until HALF way thru the book. Maybe it‘s just not my genre, so I should be fair. Writing was fine but drier in some spots than others. Clearly not my favorite.
Shoot me now. I‘m only half way- about 200 pages and I‘m SO done. Not engaging, not interesting....but it‘s a book club book so I have to try to finish. Honestly can‘t read 2 paragraphs without getting distracted by other more interesting things. Putting it aside to power thru Z and Y for the last letters in the #litsyatozchallenge. I‘ve read 24 others to not finish before year end. Thanks for letting me rant.
I enjoyed this book, and the ebook is on sale today, if anyone is interested.
#MelodiousMusicals #Hamilton I know very little about Alexander Hamilton (George Washington and Thomas Jefferson yes but not Hamilton), however this historical fiction book looks interesting.
The moment when you pull a book from the depths of your tbr and the cover quote is from one of your college professors.
"look into your eyes .... and I'm helpless"
The story of Alexander Hamilton and his loves, more focus on relationships than politics. But impossible not to think of the Broadway musical. Amazingly the novel and musical were in the works simultaneously so any overlap points to both Cobbs and Miranda doing excellent research with the same primary sources.
I have some almost too ripe apricots so I am going to do some #audiobaking ... this book is interesting because she started writing it before the musical was a known entity. Great minds... or great ideas.....
Loving all things Hamilton!! #bookhaul #bibliophile #bookworm
I'm sure someone else can provide an eloquent review, but I'm still crying from the ending. The author doesn't rewrite history, no matter how much the reader is drawn to desiring a long HEA for the Hamiltons. Alex wasn't perfect, but he clearly loved her and she loved him, and damn Aaron Burr. 😡😭
"One Manly or another had brought roses on her birthday for the past fifty years. They're from Alexander, Ajax told her that first August in 1804, when she was a new widow."
How am I supposed to read the last half dozen pages when I can't see through the tears????
Another day, another migraine. Here's hoping this book is an easy read in which to hide from reality. Not sure if Samia is glad to have me home another day, though. For a dog, she can be such a cat. 🐶😹#dogsoflitsy
"The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written, as with a sunbeam, in the whole volume of human nature by the hand of divinity itself and can never be erased."
"We serve the king, but he serves us too. And when he doesn't prevent Parliament from treating us as inferiors, then he ceases to be our king!"
I'm a sucker for historical fiction, the American Revolution and anything Hamilton. This was a perfect book for me and I loved it! 💜👍🏻
Just downloaded this book for #silhouettesoncovers for #seasonsreadings2016 I'm pretty far behind on these and I probably won't catch up but I decided this one I could do!
#seasonsreadings2016 Day 9 I'm kind of Hamilton obsessed due the show. Both of these are on my TBR and Hamilton is my 'H' for #LitsyAtoZ. I find Cobb's title choice kind of odd based on what we know due to the Reynolds Pamphlet. #fictionnonfictionpairings
The author's note reminds us that we have no control who lives, who dies, who tells our story. #history #hamilton #historicalfiction
The pragmatic adolescence of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton. Defending her house against Redcoats before she was defending herself against The Reynolds Pamphlet. #hamilton #history #historicfiction #sheroes
This exists and is OF COURSE happening. #history #historicalfiction #hamilton #mindatwerk
Not a big fan of history but loved how the story held a lot of facts during that era...With that said I did learn a few facts. Hamilton & Elizabeth love was very strong & passionate...She was definitely a strong women that held it all together for the family...If you want to learn some history, definitely the book to read!!!
I loved this so so much... it was almost perfect historical fiction. Fans of Hamilton who are not quite ready to tackle Chernow's biography will enjoy this, I think, and will picture Lin-Manuel Miranda and Pippa Soo the entire time they are reading.
Book mail!! Whoop whoop. Thank you Arcade Publishing 😁 #happyfallyall
