so-soThis was ok. I liked the historical aspects and the relationship between Balty and Huncks. Buckley did well with their development and kept me going with the shorter chapters and the "what's next" factor within the story. I ventured away from my norm with this one. I'm just a sucker for WWI and WWII so I'm sure I'll be jumping right back into one of those soon ?

pickThis was such a great read. Funny, sad, eye opening, serious, and heart warming. You really root for Hendrik. The friendships he develops throughout are so encouraging and special. The diary entry writing style makes it a fairly quick read. Also, his best friend Evert really makes for some great comic relief. Everyone should have a friend like him. 👍👍

I couldn't stop. I started admiring the author just for the fact that I could never in a million years EVER come up with a story like this. Kudos Scott Hawkins. Heck of a ride...

pickAwesome, just awesome. Total page turner with everything you could want in an historical novel. Both world wars, extraordinary female protagonists, a little bit of giddy romance, and a flawless tying together of both timelines. Also, the obvious catch--a famous, woman operated spy ring. Great read!
I figured since the BF and I started watching Preacher on Hulu, I might as well jump right into the comics. There's just something about comics...😎.

so-soMeh. I was really intrigued by the concept, but I'm still not sure what it was about. Maybe mystery/historical fiction, maybe romance? I think I liked reading about Katsu the clockwork octopus the most. 🐙
pickAll I have to say is, why yes, Lauren, I also feel as though it seemed like a cliffhanger. I could watch Gilmore Girls until the end of time. I also think Sarah Braverman was the coolest sibling of the bunch. A great read for fans. Highly recommend!

so-soThese 2 paragraphs pretty much sum things up. Our priorities here in the U.S. are pretty skewed (no shocker there). I did get some great tips and buying advice. As much as I want to continue with non-fiction, as eye-opening as this subject is, my comfort and happy zone will forever be fiction. On to the next one!
P.S. I know I said it before, but the editing in this book was very lacking. A bit distracting when the errors kept popping up 😒

About half way through this one. Besides the editorial errors about every 10 pages, it's very eye opening. I really want to try and become more educated about how I can identify quality food and know where it should be coming from. I'll never understand why companies (people) can't just tell the truth...
