This is my second home - or my library. It's had self-checkout kiosks like the one pictured for the ten years I've lived here - but this summer they removed the circulation desk altogether and gave the librarians iPads. #litsylibrarylove

Lindy I've worked library roving with an iPad in the past and always found it awkward because one arm is holding the device. You have to keep putting it down to do stuff that requires two hands. 8y

LibrarianToujours Interesting! We don't have self check out, and there are still libraries here that aren't even automated. They are still using stamps and cards! 8y

LauraBeth @Emily92Bibliophile I'm still trying to decide what I think about it - because they're not in a fixed place like a circ desk - sometimes you never see them! 8y

LauraBeth @MrBook yes - interesting - this summer the county also piloted an automated access for one of the branches that granted after hours visits (wondering if this is a prelude to them opening later to reduce staff hours but giving patrons access?). It is the one place I go to in my life that seems almost completely self-automated 8y

LauraBeth @Lindy they've done a few things - installed iPads along the wall so patrons can use, given some librarians roaming ones and then some librarians have what seems to be a moveable kiosk. Sadly, what it's boiled down to is less interaction with their wonderful staff 8y

Emily92Bibliophile Yes that makes sense! It's an interesting idea, but there are definitely many negatives to taking away the circulation desk. 😞 8y

rustoryhuf I've always felt the circulation desk at a public library was much like a bar with the best bar keeper. You'd "belly up" to the circ desk and find a librarian who loved to talk with you. 8y

Carpool_Librarian One of our favorite libraries for puppet and magic shows in the summer! Love to hit up Rita's Italian Ice after. 😊 Im a regular at the Peachtree Corners. 8y

rustoryhuf Americus. About 3 hours or so, although my daughter was in Suwanee this weekend with her boyfriend. Small world. 8y

Bookladylinda Keeping the librarians on their feet - they did the same thing at the Lawrenceville branch! 8y

LauraBeth @Bookladylinda I feel sorry for the librarians now because it appears they can't sit at all during their shift 😔 The other branch I visit is Collins Hill - but I haven't been since the summer so I need to go see if they've done the same thing over there 8y

LisaJo I visited Stowe this year for vacation. We were there in October. Yes, we were leaf peepers. What a cute little town!! And of course, my friend, the photographer, had to get that quintessential picture of the church and the steeple with all the autumn trees. It took her an hour to set that shot up, but it turned out really nice. 8y

Suet624 @LisaJo I'm 20 minutes from there in a tiny town. The whole area is gorgeous but during foliage season it's just inspiring. So glad you could visit. We love leaf peepers. 8y

LibrarianToujours We used to go to a music camp in Johnson and drove through Stowe to get there 😀 8y

Suet624 @NHLibrarian hahaha, I live a 6 minute drive from Johnson. A tiny town, but one with a college, as well as The Studio Center where artists and writers have residencies. 8y

Transmigration of Bodies | Yuri Herrera

My library didn't have this one so I requested that they purchase it via the library's website. They did and I was the first checkout. I tried to renew it today and I couldn't because two people now have it on hold. I've never been so happy to be unable to renew a library book 😊I'm going to read it tonight so I can return it tomorrow and get it to the next person in line. #LitsyLibraryLove

[DELETED] 3517561138 I am the staff at my library. I think I'm pretty awesome. But I know at least one patron who might disagree. The only reason we don't get along is because she thinks we are a Kinko's and not a book lender. I find this annoying. 8y

angrylilasian I love my local librarians! And my librarian friends who work in schools. I want to be a librarian but it costs too much to go back to school to get a degree. 😆 8y

JanuarieTimewalker13 My local library staff is fantastic!! It's a smaller branch of a large system, but you can just request books from all over the system and they are delivered locally. Who could ask for more than that! And I never need cable bc they have an amazing collection of DVDs. The only one I've looked for and they didn't have was Red Dwarf. Libraries are so, so important to people. Gratitude⭐️ 8y

quirkyreader The system in Indianapolis is wonderful and the State Library is near by. I have worked in school libraries and I am trying to get a job at the county one. 8y

slhbooks I worked as a Library Aide (book shelver and checkout desk assistant) at the Sun Ray branch of the St Paul Public Library from high school through college. I worked with a lot of pretty nice people over the years. It would be fun to go back and see how it has changed. Now I'm a regular customer of the Dakota County Library. Lots of good people there too👍📚🙂 8y

Cinfhen Love your library, our library just did a major renovation. It was closed for 2 1/2 years. It's entirely Green ( not color but materials) which is cool but it lost its old warm feel😕it feels cold & modern☃ 8y

audiothing When I was a child the head librarian was a great influence, a lovely man. In those days patrons had to be quiet, I'm sad that's no longer true as libraries were once a haven of peace and quiet. Somehow all the kids obeyed that rule with just a quiet hush and smile from the staff 8y
