Absolutely loved the book My Lady Jane and it may be one of my top favorites. If you like audiobooks I'd recommend that format because it was a fantastic performance. My Lady Jane is a YA alternative history following Lady Jane Grey and her cousin King Edward. Oh don't forget her new part time horse husband G!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one but call me invested now. ?

I noticed this series on Amazon was based on a book so decided to read the book first. This campy, fantastical retelling of Lady Jane and King Henry VIII‘s three children was goofy and fun with the narrator getting the best lines. I‘m not sure it‘s compelled me to continue the series or watch the adaptation, but I was entertained here for a bit.

Read this one last July before watching the tv show adaptation. Too bad season 2's cancelled.

When I first read this book many years ago, I absolutely loved the story, characters, and humor. I still feel the same after reading this for the second time, however it did lose a little bit of its magic after the initial read. Regardless, I still really enjoy this book and look forward to watching the new television series based off of it!

Absolutely LOVED the My Lady Jane adaptation on Prime. Easily one of the best shows of the year, and I love a mix of genres.

I have really enjoyed these books so I am excited to see how they play out on the small screen. Plus, Gilford is played by the same actor who played Marcus in Discovery of Witches 😍. I know what I'm bingeing this weekend!!

I‘m trying to read more from books I already own this year. Not sure how that‘s working out as I keep getting more from op shops. I just feel better if I have options. However this one I had picked up about a year ago at least and oh boy! It was brilliant. It is bonkers. Really quite silly. But I really loved it. English monarchy that can also shapeshift? Yes. It makes fun of itself too which is just lovely. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

And most of all, she loved the way books could transport her from her otherwise mundane and stifling life and offer the experiences of a hundred other lives.

Went to a different library book sale and got these for 15 bucks. What‘s funny is as my boyfriend and I were walking in another couple was just ahead of us on the sidewalk and stopped to say they recognized us from the other library sale the week before lol

Going in, I thought this was going to be a realistic fiction book about Lady Jane Grey. Boy was I wrong. It was so much better than that. I had no idea it was possible to have a fantasy book with dark tone AND non twisted humor. Excellent read. 5🌟

This one deserves a mention for its great sense of humor!

This book was so much fun! I‘m a sucker for historical fiction (especially Tudor England), and I love fantasy, so when you mix the two together with a bit of romance and a healthy helping of snark, you have a book that was designed to steal my heart ❤️

Listen nobody said the staff recommendation cards had to sound professional 😅

Alternative historical whimsical book. It was just pure silly and an unexpected treasure! The banter between Jane and G was hilarious. The narration of the book was also fun cutting in to explain why they twisted something and to apologize to the British people for butchering their history.

This was a blast! Highly recommend the audio. The writing is super snarky & the narrator brings that through incredibly well. The plot is imaginative & moves super fast, with a lot of action & commentary that had me snorting from laughing so hard. I breezed right through & didn't want to put it down. A blend of historical fiction (with large liberties taken) & fantasy, there was so much to love. Two thumbs up with a very high recommendation!!

Took me a few times to get into this one. A bit long and silly for me, but an enjoyable, distraction read.

This book is so fun. It's an alternate history of Lady Jane Grey who barely makes it into the history books (she was queen for a hot second between Edward and Mary). The #audiobook is really well done. It's very funny and I liked how it was written. And because it's fantasy, all of the characters have animal forms because why not?

Oh I just loved this!! My mother actually recommended it to me a while ago but I only just now broke it out of my lengthy audio TBR! And now I wish that I had listened to it sooner! It was just a rollicking good time of a listen!! I laughed more than I expected- the performance is utterly superb! And I think it‘s at the top of my favorite all time listens!! It‘s just so much fun!! It certainly made #AudioCleaning a more fun task! #AudioColoring

I picked this up on a whim for my love of British royalty. I was surprised three authors wrote so smoothly together. It was a great story.

Enjoying a rare snow day in Texas ❄️☃️ I absolutely love My Lady Jane❤️ I was familiar with the story of the ill fated 9 day queen and as I read and fell in love with Edward, Jane G and all the rest I couldn‘t wait to see how the authors rewrote history to give them happy endings. This book really help escape some of the depressing insanity of the week 🙂

My pick for day 5 of great reads from 2020 is My Lady Jane. I‘ve had the books in this series in my TBR for a while and a copy of this one appeared in my class library. It was a super fun mix of fantasy and alternate history that I loved.

I knew that this book was funny & changed history around, but I must not have read all the synopsis because the shapeshifting was unexpected. I‘m impressed that 3 authors wrote this with a consistent style. I loved the characters & very quickly rooted for them. Definitely gave me Princess Bride vibes & loved all the subtle quotes from movies/authors. An adventure, fantasy, comedy, & love story—much better than the real history. #wintergames2020

I had read the second book in this series already, but since they aren't connected really other than having the same authors and a m.c. named Jane, it didn't matter. I liked Plain Jane, but I loved this one. I definitely enjoyed the story more, but Katherine Kellgren read this one brilliantly. I think she may be my new favorite narrator.

October 2020 Reading Wrap-Up: This was an ok reading month, but there was nothing that I think will make my list of favorites for the year. The most enjo book was definitely the fun YA My Lady Jane.

Good Morning Littens! I won‘t be able to read all day, but I am looking forward to quite a bit of #readathon reading. I‘m starting off this morning by finishing My Lady Jane. Then I plan to listen to the rest of the audio of Stamped From the Beginning for #LitsyBookClub while working around the house. I‘m really enjoying this as my light read at school. It‘s perfect for picking up and reading for short periods of time in between responsibilities when I give my classes independent reading time. I just wish I had more time to read it.

I realized as we were getting ready for silent reading time at school yesterday that I had forgotten my physical book. No worries, I‘ve been wanting to read this book that magically showed up in my classroom over the summer. I don‘t need to add more to my #currentlyreading list, but it is what it is, and this should be a fun read to keep on my desk. The real question is how long until I can‘t resist taking it home?

If you're looking for a historically accurate Lady Jane Grey retelling - get a different book.

This was....something else. Highly entertaining for sure but the whole shapeshifter magic aspect just isn't something I enjoy. I also found a lot of the book to be pretty awkward and just...strange. It's not horrible but definitely did not live up to the reviews I've read 🤷‍♀️

Can anyone guess how I'm spending the first day of #AwesomeAugust ? 😪

I am having so much fun with this audiobook! I will definitely be reading the rest of the books by these authors 😄

I wish I remembered who recommended this to me. Without that recommendation, I would have missed a heck of a romp—just what the doctor ordered. My Lady Jane is an alternate history take on Lady Jane Grey's story (including cousin King Edward VI and his sister Queen Elizabeth I), injected with shapeshifters and a bunch of humor. The silly quotient isn't terribly unlike The Princess Bride (well, maybe a little sillier). Anyway, good fun!

So I started reading this maybe six months ago and put it down because it felt silly. Then, a few weeks ago, in a desperate attempt to get out of a terrible long reading slump, I picked it up again and magic happened.

Yes, it's a bit silly, but delightfully so. It's a completely alternate Tudor history where a conflict between magical haves and have nots replaces the Protestant-Catholic religious conflicts. If you're in the right mood, it's great

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Alternate history + British royalty + shapeshifters + humor. Okaaay? This is one of those books I didn‘t know I needed. I‘d have never chosen this on my own, but after listening to Well-Read Pod‘s audiobook narrators episode, where my fellow Nashville Litten and trusted friend, gushed about Kellgren‘s PHENOMENAL performance, well, it seemed like a no-brainer. So fun!

PS. You are greatly missed, Katherine Kellgren. Such a loss.
