Do you believe in faeries? Not the soft, gentle kind, but the sinister, feral kind ~ the ones that wreak havoc on everything in their path... Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother's rock band, until an ominous attack forces them back to her childhood home. To the place where she used to see Faeries. They're still there. But Kaye's not a child anymore and this time she's dragged into the thick of their dangerous, frightening world. A realm where black horses dwell beneath the sea, desperate to drown you where the sinister Thistlewitch divines dark futures and where beautiful faerie knights are driven to perform acts of brutal depravity for the love of their uncaring queens. Once there, Kaye finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms ~ a struggle that could end in her death

For the year 2002 I chose this book. This is the second book I‘ve read by this author and although it‘s an ok read I‘m just not seeing what all the raving is about. This just may be an author that‘s not for me. And I‘m ok with that. #19822022 @Librarybelle

I'm currently in a reading slump. So here is a book I read some time ago. I had one of the most amazing experiences with this one. I was reading in a loud gym and was transported right into a scene so deep it was like literal magic. Has that ever happened to anyone else? I'd love to do a re-read of it but don't want to ruin that memory. Holly Black has yet to disappoint me.

The pace is pretty face and a bit erratic sometimes. The visuals are awesome, as expected from HB. More character driven than plot. The book is ok, but definitely a good quick read- especially in fall.

Nearly all of my all time favorite books are by women authors! But here‘s one I haven‘t read or tagged in a while.

I suppose I could have gone for an “international” woman—that could have been Howl‘s Moving Castle, as Diana Wynne Jones was Welsh. 🤔

This book gave me one of the most perfect reading moments back when I read it years ago. When people say they were transported, it was exactly like that. Which to me says the writing is nothing short of magic. Part of me wants to reread it, but part of me is afraid it won't be the same. Have any of you had a perfect reading moment? What book was it?

LazyOwl I've had this a few times. For me I think it's a case of the right book at the right time. 4y

I actually finished a book! It‘s been hard to settle this week as we‘ve got students back from Monday. So much to do but I can‘t wait to see them all again 📚 So this book was a little uneven and the author is still honing her craft, but I really like the way she depicts the fae. They are proud, cruel, and capricious but bound by strict rules which a clever protagonist can use to their advantage. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

Here is my #bookspinbingo card in the correct order! With the numbers 16 & 20, I will be reading Tithe by Holly Black and Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein. Both are books I own but probably would not have chosen to read this month, so I'm excited! What did you get for #bookspin?

aperfectmjk First up for me is Defending Jacob by William Landay, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I've been trying to read at least one classic per month, so I'm glad this one came up. 4y
pareads @aperfectmjk I had no idea Defending Jacob was a book! I watched the apple tv series and really enjoyed it (I know, usually I read before I watch 😅). I'll be curious to see what you think of it. That is also an awesome goal with the classics, I have a bunch sitting on my shelf so I should also incorporate it into my reading schedule. 1 per month seems very doable! 4y
aperfectmjk @pareads I have not seen the show, but I have seen previews, which is why I decided I wanted to read the book first. And yeah, I have a challenge of reading 100 classics, so I decided to work in one a month until I get there. 4y

This dark Holly Black Fairie tale was my first book by her years ago and I fell in love with her gritty, dark view of Faerie and our world. Like her other books it‘s a very mature YA. Lots of disturbing themes and images.

I had such high hopes for this, but it turned out not to be for me. I had trouble following the story - I thought there were too many plot holes and I couldn't understand how some things progressed. I didn't enjoy the (lack of) explanation about magic and the Faerie world. It's my first Black book and there's so much love for her. I will give her another chance - this was written so long ago that her written style may have improved since.

Sarz This was my pick for #lmpbc but now I'm going to choose something different. I don't want to subject my group to this! @thegreensofa @BecH @LapReader 6y

3⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think maybe if I‘ve read this book years ago I would have liked it better although that is a big maybe. I got this book for my daughter a few years back and I should have read it before letting her read it 😕 the MC is a 16 yo who smokes a lot and also drinking is everywhere on the story and so much more that I think it‘s not appropriate for teens. I don‘t think I recommend this book, definitely not for teens.
