A Series of Unfortunate Events #13: The End
A Series of Unfortunate Events #13: The End | Lemony Snicket
Like an off-key violin concert, the Roman Empire, or food poisoning, all things must come to an end. Thankfully, this includes A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. The thirteenth and final installment in the groundbreaking series will answer readers' most burning questions: Will Count Olaf prevail? Will the Baudelaires survive? Will the series end happily? If there's nothing out there, what was that noise? Then again, why trouble yourself with unfortunate resolutions? Avoid the thirteenth and final book of Lemony Snicket's international bestselling series and you'll never have to know what happens. Ages 10+

Finally finished my reread of this series! I've been listening to one each month over the past year.
This conclusion has always been bittersweet. So many questions are left unanswered, yet it's lovely seeing the growth of these siblings and their determination to face an unfair world.

A while back I kind of joked about figuring out a way to try my own horseradish apple. Well I finally did it and it was surprisingly good. Sorry the pic isn‘t very sexy 😆 I just squeezed a lemon over some I apples and stirred in some fresh horseradish and let it sit for a minute. If you are a bit of a wuss or don‘t like the texture of horseradish you can wipe it off and still taste it on the apples. 😋🍎 #foodspiration

Overall it is a good series packed with adventure. Both story line & writing style of author is awesome. it is about unfortunate events, sad & depressing meanwhile it is uplifting as well. 12th book is way better than the last one.Ending could‘ve been more interesting. Author explains idioms & phrases whenever it is used. So this series expanded my vocabulary as well 😂 4⭐️/5 #seriesread2022 Should pick my next series. Any recommendations?

TheSpineView Great job! Have you read Robin Hobb's books? 2y

Honestly, a little disappointing as an end because of some unresolved questions but where the Beaudelaires ended up was somewhat satisfying.

Unfortunately, Daniel Handler did not turn back into a decent human in the time it took me to reread the series.

CoffeeNBooks @TheKidUpstairs I read this series years ago when I was teaching middle school reading, and I really liked the series. There was so much that was great about it! 4y
GingerAntics I never made it to the end of the series. It started getting really dark for the headspace I was in at the time. I‘d love to know how it ends, though. 4y

No, not all questions are answered. I understand the author wanted to make a point that the end of the book is not the end of the story but I also understand why so many people felt frustrated. I personally liked the Netflix adaptation better because I felt all of the changes to the story only favored its progression.

pilardib I read some reviews that correctly pointed out some continuity errors. Why make us doubt if the Baudelaires survived or not if there are many mentions throughout the book that they would still be traumatized by Olaf many and many years later?? 4y

All in all I liked the series. Kind of dark for a kids series but I liked it. No one knows what their story is gonna be or where it takes them in life.

I didn‘t quite make my goal, but I‘m happy with the amount of reading I did this year. Considering all the changes, ups and downs, and pressures put on me this year I‘m dang proud of how I‘ve pulled through- and not just in my reading. Also, I‘m clearly not as good at keeping up with what I‘ve read on this platform.

Book 94 of the year, finished Nov 11, audio

Im glad this is over. The series concluded without answering any questions. It left me frustrated and wishing I hadn't started reading it and/or that I had followed Snicket's constant advice to read something else.

Will not read again.

LibrarianRyan I remember how much this pissed my volunteer off. I had stopped reading at book 7. 5y

Love this series (and the Netflix adaptation actually answers most of your lingering questions!) Count Olaf feels like a particularly relevant villain in his ability to manipulate those around him with obvious lies and flimsy cover ups. #middlegrade

85eliana Both! When I finished the book series, I felt frustrated with so many unanswered questions. Yet, at the same time, I like what was being said thematically by having so much be unknown. The ending of the book series wasn‘t as upbeat as show, but it had enough hope the most of the show‘s ending felt earned. I‘m glad Lemony had his moment with little Beatrice. 6y

We are home from our short visit to NYC now and happy the kitties are still alive and well after their first time home alone. The furniture has been rearranged, but the Christmas tree is miraculously still standing and there are no loose tarantulas or gold teeth or remnants of booby traps. We are both very tired and incapable of doing anything other than read! 👍

i have mixed feelings. i get what the author was going for, and i think he did an okay job of it, but there‘s a difference between “not getting every answer” and “not getting any answer”. it‘s easy to write an intriguing story if you don‘t have to tie up the loose ends - a better book would be equally intriguing, but actually answer some questions.

A kind of meh ending to an interesting series. An unfair amount of loose threads, in my humblest opinion, but there you are.

This is my "I have two more papers to grade before 3P and it's the end of the week and I'm exhausted" face. Fitting for "the end" I think. ?#teachersoflitsy #professorsoflitsy
