I love when an author can vividy describe everything and really draw you into their world. I could picture all of the Young Elites and the events so clearly. I found the idea of the malfettos with their unique markings and gifts interesting. They should have been able to be happy they survived the blood fever but instead the were being portrayed as outcasts and now monsters. Even in fictional worlds people are scared of what they don't understand.
I just wish that books with odd names for characters or places would come with a pronunciation guide. Then I wouldn't have to just be making them up 🤣
It was a nice pretty morning here today before it got too hot for me. So I read out on the porch while the dogs sunbathed. Though these ducks that have been wandering around the neighborhood kept distracting me
It's been storming here this evening so they dogs have been crowding me. Then the electricity went out and I started this book.
5th book read during #JubilantJuly @Andrew65
YA fantasy book. A strange illness affected many communities in this world were many people died. Some of the children who survived, developed some kind of powers. But the king and the Queen want to exterminate them and that is the reason the Young Elite Society was created, to regain the kingdom. I like the idea of these powers related with energy. But I can‘t stand is Adelina⬇️

1. Yes! I really do!
2. I LOVED Adelina Amouteru from The Young Elites by Marie Lu. She was the perfect anti-heroine. ❤

My latest book purchases!! So excited to start them.
Please comment any suggestions you have.
This is a surprisingly dark book, but I love the references to The Prince and the Inferno. Adelina, like others who lived through the plague, has powers, unlike the others she did not manifest her powers until she kills her father. She is recruited by a group of others with powers to try to over throw the corrupt queen and much chaos ensues. 3/5 stars. If you enjoyed Nevernight, but want something a little less intense, this is the book for you.

I managed to get halfway through this and then gave up. I didn't like anyone, aside from Raffaele who was more of a supporting character. It was a good concept and it started strong, but then the writing fell flat for me. I just wasn't invested enough to see what happened next.
Most of this book was like any other super power book with a girl main character. She can't control her powers, a man has to come help her, she gets caught between good and evil, blah blah, heard it a million times. But the ending has me a lot more interested and I think it's going to take a turn from a boring same old book, to a much more interesting one. I am going to continue onto book 2.
I just started this one, but I'm already really liking it.

Fiction: In the beginning, the main character Adelina Amouteru, struggled with her powers and letting her fears taking control. However, throughout the book she manages to take advantage of it and uses it to protect her and the people she loves. It teaches a story on life by being brave by turning your weaknesses into your strength. And showing that we shouldn't take our weaknesses take advantage of us.
This is the second Lu trilogy I‘ve started - I liked Legend a lot (esp the first book) but this blew it out of the water in terms of world building and originality. Excited to see where else this goes.
#DoubleSpin complete! #BookSpin #BookSpinBingo
I have a few books by this author on my tbr shelf so i decided to do an audio from the library. I am definitely ready to dive into her other books after listening to this one.
Finished my #doublespin book! This one was a re-read, as I first read it three years ago and wanted to revisit it before I read the second book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I enjoyed the worldbuilding in this one a whole lot but I can‘t really say the same thing about a lot of the characters. I didn‘t really care for the main character, I would‘ve rather read about some of the others. Not sure if I‘ll be picking up the second book in the series, at least not right away if at all.
What a turn of events! I lived how the story started and where it went, up to about 3/4 in. The ending seems rushed and at a loss of action. I would say it fits the story, though, but it isn‘t what I was expecting. Adelina going down this dark path is amazing, but the final push seemed so desperate in the end. This is turning into a story of the villain -which I do love- but seems so forced. Might go for the next book.
I love these little blurbs at the top of Adelinas chapters. The few from an Inquisitors point actual adds a little more about the other side. The point that she had this dark festering in her, from the years of abuse from her father, being basically the root of where her power of illusions come from is an interesting twist. Adelina likes that darkness. I love how she is learning with one eye. So I‘m very interested in where Marie Lu will take her.
“be true to yourself. but that's something everyone says and no one means. no one wants you to be yourself. they want you to be the version of yourself that they like.“
1st time reading this author & I really loved her writing style & how she developed all the characters. Her story captured me from the beginning & I liked the end. It was a realistic turn, even though I was a little heartbroken. I'll definitely read the sequel. The only concern I have is that some readers may stop reading when they reach the middle because the pace slows down quite a bit. But other than that I truly recommend it!
"Once upon a time, a prince fell madly in love with a demon from the Underworld. When she disappeared back into the sea, he ached so much for her that he walked into the ocean and never returned." -Kenettran Folk Tales, various authors
Almost done reading this one. Can't wait to comment about it! 😃

Why did you choose this book: I enjoyed the overall theme
Summary: A decade ago a deadly blood fever swept through the nation majority of the infected died but the survivors were left with strange markings and powerful gifts. And though there identities remain secret an group of survivors band together and calling themselves THE YOUNG ELITES.
Poor Adelina. First she survives -yet so scarred- from the mysterious fever that claimed her mother, gave her unknown powers and turned her father abusive to her. Now she is on death row for said dangerous (misunderstood) powers. Where will this book take her?
Oh it‘s nice to read something that grips you from the beginning until the end. I‘ve been wanting to read more of Marie Lu‘s books, and enjoyed this one. It was a bit bleak in some places and the characters motivations were very hard to pin down. I will be picking up the others. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I enjoyed this one a lot- and that ending! I just wish I knew someone at home that I could talk to about everything that happened (happily though, the internet exists). Luckily, the next book was available in the library so I didn't have to wait for "The Rose Society"! Bookworm's dream!!!
My 6th read from Marie Lu 📚
38/50 #goodreadsreadingchallenge2019
The darkness of Adelina really reels you into the story! I enjoyed this book a lot, and it met a lot of the expectations, since Marie Lu's Legend series was absolute perfection! This was quite different and so interesting because there were three POVs, and you really get to see the insides of the characters at a glimpse. The suspense and action is so breathtaking and I LOVED IT!
While not my favorite series from Marie Lu I still thoroughly enjoyed this series, especially this book. The plot kept me guessing and I found something in each character I could relate to. I don‘t think this book is for everyone but if you like revenge, magic and strong female characters I‘d highly recommend this book!
Long time no see you Litsy.
My first post after... Ages!?
I was going through a very tough time and I was not coping well with my anxiety. All good now, except work always keeping me busy. Reading is always what keeps me going on but I had to take a break from social medias. I missed Litsy. Will try to pop-up more here.

I found this book to be just okay. It's the first in the series so I'm hoping th other two are better. I loved Marie Lu's other series but just couldn't get into the characters or the plot line with this one.

I spent most this book mad at Adelina. I‘m accustomed to badass female leads these days but I think she might develop into one. My hopes are high. I liked the way her powers worked and the danger within them. Now I just gotta wait for my library to send me book 2 and 3. Here‘s a fandom quiz to see what gem you align with. https://pin.it/vxxr3yh4ci3i45
Because I have no self control... I‘ve started a new series 😂😂😂
Oh no! Nothing motivates you to get to the library like being cut off! Please oh please nooooo! Grabs first available shirt and remembers shoes, out the d
"In the good years, they wine and dine, laugh and love. In the bad years, they draw their swords and slit each other‘s throat."
"I am Adelina Amouteru, the phantoms whispered to my father, speaking my most frightening thoughts in a chorus of voices, dripping with hatred. My hatred. I belong to no one. On this night, I swear to you that I will rise above everything you‘ve ever taught me. I will become a force that this world has never known. I will come into such power that none will dare hurt me again."
