Another Christie book, this time with Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. These are short stories, but interlinked. I hadn't heard of these husband and wife detectives by Christie. I watched a few of the TV episodes I could find. I would definitely read more with Tommy and Tuppence.

I loved this Tommy & Tuppence novel! I love their funny banter, & this one saw them make references to other fictional detectives, including Sherlock & Poirot. Short stories connected by a bigger mystery—T & T are asked by Mr. Carter to run a detective agency to help catch a group of criminals. These 2 are quickly becoming my favorite Christie detectives—maybe even above Miss Marple.

Another collection of short stories, this one featuring married couple Tommy and Tuppence. They're very fun, the characters have a great dynamic, and the misteries are quite varied.

I don't read short story collections by Agatha Christie as a rule. I ended up reading this one almost unwittingly. Likemost short story collections, it was a mixed bag. Tommy and Tuppence open up a detective agency and taking inspiration from various classic fictional detectives proceed to solve miscellaneous cases. I didn't know most of the fictional characters but the playful banter between Tommy and Tuppence was fun, nonetheless.

tpixie I skipped this Tommy and Tuppence... 4y
truthinfiction @tpixie Lucky you! I haven't been able to read a Christie since. 4y

Honestly, not a great reading week for my #bookreport. Outsider was fantastic. I read about 100pgs of One Paris Summer before bailing - despite reading other Swank books before & enjoying them, this one was just FULL of spoiled, whiny, bratty teenagers & I COULD NOT deal with them. Acceptable Risk was an ARC, so I reread Collateral Damage. It had been just long enough for me to forget details but not long enough to forget what actually ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) happens, so it wasn't the most engaging read & took me a long time to get through. Acceptable Risk was really just a so-so read with uneven pacing & a weirdly convoluted plot & took me about twice as long to read as a book that size usually does. I would have bailed if it hadn't been for a review. I'm quite behind on P&P but hoping to catch up this weekend. Still really enjoying Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, which is delightfully informative & ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) engaging. Just started Partners in Crime last night. It's a reread for #agathachristieclubr2 & since it was actually July's book I thought I should probably get on it! 😂 All in all August wasn't a fabulous reading month, but I'm getting myself organized for September & hoping for the best!!!

@Cinfhen
4y
Cinfhen I‘m still laughing over your comments!!! Whiney, bratty teenagers sounds like pure torture 😜 4y

TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - Her other books I read weren't YA & I didn't realize this one was until I picked it up. Sometimes I like that genre, but this was one of those “BOOHOO I'm TRAPPED IN PARIS for the WHOLE SUMMER so MY LIFE IS OVER“ ...!!! Then there was this evil stepsister who is supposedly 18 but does stuff like trip the MC in front of her friends & steal her book... I just didn't find her believable and she has NO motivation for being evil. Not for me! 4y
Cinfhen I either HATE or LOVE the YA books I‘ve picked up....they definitely leave a strong impression, for me!!!! 4y
rabbitprincess Loved Partners in Crime! 😄 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Why couldn't I spend a summer in Paris?! Who are these teens modeled after?! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick - Right?? Her parents got divorced so she's going to stay with her dad who is (as always) the “bad“ parent... but like... I don't really get why being mad at your dad means you also spend all day pouting about being in Paris?? 4y

This was so much fun! Tommy and Tuppence are just the right amount of bubbly and clever for me to find them fun rather than irritating. Each story in this collection parodies a different detective, but you don‘t need to get the parody to enjoy the story. Hugh Fraser reads the audio and is perfect, especially because the last story parodies Hercule Poirot 😂

4. Each story in the collection alludes to a famous detective. Were you familiar with all of them? Did you enjoy any more than others?

Bonus question: can you see anything besides an iPhone when you look at that box of chocolates in the picture?

charl08 How funny, I thought it was a phone! I've just read another book referring to multiple crime stories (including a very famous Christie).I think I'll look for this one too! Thank you. 4y

Laughterhp I loved how each story mentioned a different detective. I didn‘t know most of them. My favorite was when they were being Poirot and making fun of Hastings 😂😂 4y
Linsy It made me wish I knew them all!! That cover is bugging me now though. What am I supposed to see?? (edited) 4y
TheAromaofBooks I knew basically none of the detectives except Holmes and Poirot, and while I think a lot of the little jokes & such would have been funnier if I had been more familiar, the book is still quite readable. 3. Do you enjoy Tommy and Tuppence as a married couple, vs. their first appearance as friends? What differences do you see in their relationship? #agathachristieclubR2

Laughterhp I bailed on the first book and never gave it a try again. However, I did like this collection of stories and I liked them as a married couple. 4y
Linsy I love them as a married couple! No dancing around it, they can just be clever and cute and together. â¤ï¸ 4y
TheAromaofBooks I absolutely love their banter and how unabashedly happy they are together. And I really do feel like they are partners - both of them bring different strengths to the table and they work together so well, always willing to listen to what the other is thinking. @Laughterhp @Linsy 4y

Laughterhp Yikes. At this point I don‘t remember! But I‘m sure there were some stories I liked more than others. 4y
Linsy @Laughterhp Lol, me either! But the opening was pretty great if I remember correctly. Love T + T! 4y
TheAromaofBooks I enjoyed them all, but thought that the Sunningdale mystery (where the man was killed on the golf course with the hat pin) was particularly clever. @Laughterhp @Linsy 4y

Linsy I like this collection of stories! I didn‘t reread it for July, but I remember being so charmed. 4y

I was quite impressed with this collection of short stories. While the mysteries are the main element of each story, the book as a whole is very different from AC‘s other works that I‘ve read so far. The eponymous Mr. Quin is a mystery unto himself. He and Mr. Satterthwaite are a delightful duo. Loved them both and I highly recommend this book. The audiobook narrated by Hugh Fraser does not disappoint. 5/5âï¸

#unpopularopinion , but I‘m not a big fan of Tommy and Tuppence. I much prefer Poirot or Marple. So, it‘s just an okay rating for me. A collection of cases the couple need to solve really cover a variety of circumstances. The mysteries are fun; it‘s the dialogue between the two that really got to me.

I love, love, love, love Tommy & Tuppence. I didn't realize this was basically a collection of loosely connected short stories, but even though I usually don't care for short stories, I did enjoy this. The narrator was really good, too. This is #15 for Mount TBR and is my published between 1900-1950 for the Read Harder challenge.

mabell I thought this was incredibly clever. She crafted the overall story, yet tied in the short stories with the appropriate literary detective theme. And I agree, I love Tommy and Tuppence, too! 7y

The Tommy & Tuppence books are largely new to me and Christie does seem to have a good time with them. Her jokes and wit in the Marple and Poirot books can often be stilted but here they're quite hilarious. The concept here is that T&T imitate the famous fictional detectives of their time, including "the man" himself, Hercule Poirot. Some neat intertextuality there! (and a good dose of self-confidence, well done Agatha)
