These poetry books are always so captivating to me, as a woman who has struggled and faced similar situations. I enjoy the poems. They are raw and sad, yet have a happy ending.

This was my least favorite in Lovelace's "women are some kind of magic" trilogy. The words fell flat for me and much of it felt repetitive. I did, however, think it was interesting that she brought in other poets to write about their survivor experiences.

It's says something when the best poem in this entire collection isn't even by the author. Skimming through the last bit of this to finally get it off my bedside table.

Think I had higher expectations for this final installment. Or maybe because this set goes through abuse like an escaping mermaid (I‘ve been lucky enough to not be able to relate) Amanda was able to make me feel some of her pain, though, in some of the deeper poems; especially the emotional abuse few. Again, I do love her poems, but they are on a range I don‘t quite understand. I loved a later one; show them what a mermaid/witch/queen can do.

Cute little book of poetry that tells the story of a young girl.

I liked the first book and loved the second one. This concluding one wasn‘t really for me.

I really enjoy Amanda Lovelace‘s poetry. The feelings evoked with so few words is amazing. Of her three books in this collection this wasn‘t my favorite, but it was good and I really enjoyed the inclusion of poems from other authors.

“don't mean to frighten you, but i would seriously consider drinking the atlantic whole if only you asked me to. - what wouldn't i do for you?“

I like Amanda Lovelace. I enjoyed her second book and when I finished that I grabbed her first off my shelf and read that too. I thought, I really enjoy her writing. After finishing the mermaid‘s voice returns in this one I need to amend my statement to I love Amanda Lovelace‘s writing.

As a abuse survivor I can really relate to a lot of poems in here as well as her 3rd person approach.

I do love amanda lovelace's poetry so much and this is another beautiful entry into Women are Some Kind of Magic trilogy. By framing the trauma and damage that so many of us go through in such a raw but fantastical way, it makes it that much more visceral. I am so glad that I picked up that first book and fell in love with the words. I cannot wait to see what the next book will be.

I love amanda lovelace. I didn't anticipate the theme of this one but I loved it. It's the last of the "women are some kind of magic" series and rounds it out beautifully. This is full of poetry about finding your voice again and speaking out after trauma. So good.

This was between a pick and so-so for me. I've never really "got" poetry so I didn't read it unless I had to.
I enjoyed and connected with some of these poems. Others I just skimmed. I am glad I read this book though; moving out of my comfort zone.

I'm so underwhelmed by this conclusion to the series... I absolutely ADORED the first two books, but I'm gutted that this one didn't do it for me at all. I wish I was able to love it, but it didn't really connect with me like the previous ones. I'm disappointed that I was unable to enjoy this one as much as the previous books, but it just didn't click for me.

These two really resonate with me at this time in my life.

This poem reminds of the Wayward Children's series by Seanan McGuire, which I love. I just finished In An Absent Dream. It is my favorite of the series so far, followed closely by Down Among the Sticks and Bones.

I don't quite relate to this quote, but it goes really well with the shark that @TheReadingMermaid painted for me.

Be kind to yourself and ask for help when you need it!!

Take the plunge. Have an adventure.

Truth! Amanda Lovelace has a way of putting her heart on the page. This third final book of poetry in her series is a nice ending to her feminist modern poetry. 🧜🏼‍♀️❤️🦈❤️👍🏻
