Good. Enjoyable story but if it was a cosy Christmas story you were looking for then this isn't it. Full of drama and sadness. The only thing that is Christmas in this book is the time of year and a hastily added nativity storyline.

So I think I love Jenny Colgan! I absolutely LOVED The Christmas Bookshop when I read it this time last year but thought it was a fluke after only kind of liking The Bookshop on the Corner. Now I‘m convinced I‘m going to love all of her books and need to binge them 😁! I listened to this one as an audiobook and let me tell you it is so sweet and touching and sad at various points and I loved every second! Bring on more! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Trying to finish this off before I start our 1st Book Club book of 2022!
I enjoyed getting to know some of the residents of Mure Island. This is definitely a character driven story and it was well done. Number 3 in the series and I think I will go back and read the first two. 4⭐

Ahhhh, another Jenny, and a splendid one. I think this Mure trilogy is my favorite. Great characters, storyline, and threads that grab hold—in a wonderful setting. A bit of a bittersweet Christmas read, but well calibrated.
And with that I made it through my fourth book for #DashingDecember and another book has been crossed off my #BookSpinBingo card.
The days are getting longer!
I chose this book as a cosy Christmas read, I wasn‘t expecting someone dying from terminal cancer, a war refugee story and child abuse?! What the actual...??? The rest of the book was standard fluff? The tone of this was all over the place. I only kept reading as my son gave it to me, bless him!!
Update: it snowed! 16F. ❄️🥶 I fed the birds, wished them a Merry Christmas, then came back to bed. Mark is up early with Sir Murray the sheepdog and I smell coffee. Ahhhh.
I plan to tackle another Jenny later. I need to get through my Christmas reads!
It‘s Christmas! 🎄
Starting this one tonight. Such a pretty cover...

My last listen of 2019. I will miss this cast of characters (and listening to the Scottish accent). I go to Jenny Colgan when I need lighter reads, but a surprising amount of depth was found in this trilogy starting with the second book. It ended a bit abruptly, but I will be wondering about these characters for a while to come.
I have been saving this one in my tbr folder for a while as I wanted to read it over the Christmas period. It was another delightful heartwarming, poignant, funny and overall great read from Jenny Colgan. I loved catching up with everyone on Mure and seeing what they are up to. A hug in a book.
From the outside, Jenny Colgan‘s books look like sweet fluff. From the inside, they balance good-hearted community focus with realistic darkness. CHRISTMAS ON THE ISLAND is full of Christmas traditions and characters who show up for each other, but it also deals with pregnancy complications, difficult relationships, wartime atrocities, and terminal cancer. I cried a LOT and renewed my desire to read Colgan‘s whole backlist.
I didn‘t get much reading time yesterday, so I‘m still only about halfway through CHRISTMAS ON THE ISLAND. Gonna dig down into it on this brutally cold day. The frickin windchill is -42, which is WAY too cold for dog-walking and suchlike. 😡
I‘ve been trying to start CHRISTMAS ON THE ISLAND since lunchtime, but stuff keeps coming up. I managed to hit page 17 over supper. Such an accomplishment!
I really loved this book! It reminds me a bit of Maeve Binchy novels, where even the heavier subjects have a cozy feel. I will definitely be reading the first 2 books! #WinterGames @Clwojick @StayCurious #SlayBells #HolidayRead (21pts)

I‘m missing my grandkids & feeling a bit down, so I‘m in bed, reading a Xmas story for the #WinterGames & #TeamNutcracker, watching the Kardashians & eating Cookies & Caramel icecream. How‘s your night/day? 1pt #PointsTotal-491
Bk2 in my #LibraryHaul is a holiday read I borrowed for the #WinterGames & #TeamNutcracker I first read Jenny Colgan two years ago when I was given The Bookshop On The Corner and fell in love with her quirky characters. I‘ve read all of her Beach Street Bakery series & am looking forward to reading this one & the Rosie Hawkins Sweetshop series as well. 1pt #PointsTotal-379
Presenting my December Must-Reads: the four books I HAVE to either read or ditch this month. When I started this project back in January, I resolved to choose only books that‘d been on La TBR since before December 2018, but I decided to focus on 2019 acquisitions for year‘s end. Even though I doubt I‘ll knock every 2019 purchase (or gift, or freebie) off by New Year‘s, I‘m gonna give it a solid try.
December 1st means it's time for holiday books!
Sweet, a Christmas read that isn‘t all candy canes and Santa-it is layered, complicated and quite sad in places. Kind of like real life. I loved revisiting Mure and these amazing characters again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #wintergames #elfies #holidayread @Bookwormjillk

Quiet this morning, perfect time to start a new Christmas book. #wintergames #elfies @StayCurious @Clwojick
I haven‘t read the other books in this series yet. I think it lacked a strong holiday feel for much of the story. Maybe because it‘s part of a series the emphasis seemed to be on the characters‘ life-changing events. 🤷🏻♀️ Anyway, it was an enjoyable read and the story concluded on Christmas Day. I wasn‘t expecting to need tissues either!!
We continue with festivities in PR until almost the end of January☺️Book is between hallmark mood & TNT I know drama😳Different stories about different types of relationships in a small isle called Mure in Scotland. You even will find a male-male romance👍At the beginning was confused with names & it was very slow but then came the drama & cheese cute happy ending which my current mood adored.3.4/3.5⭐️ Thank you @mabell Scotland ahh😍2📚from swaps
I know I really should have started this a couple of weeks ago but what can I say. I only just finished listening to my last audiobook because I've had a couple of weeks of no commuting #audiobook
A lovely and sweet holiday story... I guess it is the last book in a trilogy but I hadn‘t read the other two and didn‘t feel like I was missing some of the story!! You can for sure read this as a stand-alone.
*sigh* This was a lovely, happy ending (mostly) to the trilogy. Jenny Colgan‘s books always make me want to leave the rat race and settle down in some remote Scottish village. Pretty sure my husband would be on board. 😊

Honestly, I didn't love this book, but sometimes between a busy work schedule and a crazy, but fun December of holiday madness, you need a light read. This book is just what the "reading doctor" ordered. A holiday gem of fluff! Delightful! Glad that Joel came around!! ??
Such a lovely end to this series. It was quite bittersweet, but I am truly going to miss spending time with people of Mure.
Chores are done....Coffee is brewed...time to relax with a Christmas read!
I have saving these books for this week off. Starting with the tagged book. Can‘t wait to finally the third and final book in this charming series.
Jenny Colgan writes the perfect books to get you through a long week. The 3rd book about the Scottish island community of Mure picks up a few months after the last with Christmas coming, along with news for Flora that she isn't sure how Joel will react to--with good reason. All the supporting characters are back & although it ended satisfyingly, I'm hoping for more books. Paired with purchased shortbread in white chocolate & candy canes.😋Link👇🏻
Starting this festive story tonight. I've never read this author before, but Christmas on a Scottish island...I'm all in! 🎄📚🥰
A lovely tale of community, love, friendship, and loss set on a remote Scottish island at Christmas time this is a heartwarming seasonal read. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2018/12/review-christmas-on-island-by-jenny.htm...
My late lunch and blog post today, Ruth Reichl's Mushroom Soup from 'Comfort Me With Apples." Easy & really good, it's paired here with one of my current reads for a book tour review this week. The 3rd book set on the Scottish isle of Mure. Cozy soup & a cozy read for Sunday. ???
Link to soup recipe with my adaptations is in comments below. ??
LOVED, but I had a huge suspicion that I would since I‘ve loved everything I‘ve ever read by Jenny Colgan. Her characters are so great and her settings just come alive. This one actually kind of feels like there could be another sequel, which I am ALL FOR.
I was surprised to find that this is third in a series! It read fine without the first two, but I can see where starting at the beginning would add to what I love about the overall story arc.
