I'm really enjoying the Thrawn series. In the 2nd book there are two different time lines in play both around Batuu. The earlier one is Anakin meeting Thrawn on Batuu during the Clone Wars, after Padme goes missing. In the later one Thrawn is sent with Darth Vader to the planet after the Emperor has sensed a presence in the Force.

The audiobook was not great, which is odd for SW. the narrator kept forgetting who was talking and who was narrating then would talk too quiet. I also didn‘t like how Vader was portrayed-as a kind of “fool” compared to Thrawn. I like Thrawn but he doesn‘t compare to Vader or outwit him. I also didn‘t find myself caring about the Anakin/Thrawn storyline. Just a meh book so far and I finally read a synopsis and I‘m off to try the new Thrawn trilogy.

Number-one New York Times Best Seller

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling novel from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine....

I am having such a hard time focusing. My anxiety is extremely high today and my thoughts keep drifting back to Minneapolis.

Right now I am trying to surround myself by things I love to keep myself grounded. Ocarina of Time and the audio of Thrawn Alliances.

I'm almost caught up on the Disney canon Star Wars books. I didn't love the jumps back and forth in time. Like the movies, Anakin was pretty annoying in the flashbacks, and I didn't love the portrayal of Vader, but Thrawn is a very captivating character. A bit of a sophomore slump, I hope the third book is better.

My first finish for #24in48. The second book in the new Thrawn series. This is Thrawn‘s story before the events of Star Wars. This had more backstory of both Thrawn and Vader and delved into their complex relationship. The next book is supposed to be released Monday.

Couple of short books up next, I think.

So I am finally settling in for the #24in48 readathon! I got in a little over an hour of my audiobook this morning while running errands.

This is also my Hour 6 #photochallenge. I think my current read is definitely #SFF. Looking forward to finishing this. The third installment comes out Monday and I‘m 3 on the wait list 🤞🏻.

Was disappointed that I didn‘t like this Timothy Zahn as much as any of the others I have read. This time I got weary of the descriptions of combat and interiors of buildings. I liked the parallel of Thrawn working with either Darth Vader or Anakin Skywalker in two different timelines, but bleh. Had to push through and that‘s not normal for me and a book in the Star Wars cannon.

I finished my months read on time for once!

I liked this one more than the first, I loved the relationship dynamics between Thrawn and Anakin/Darth, and the glimpses we got inside Vader‘s mind and how he compartmentalizes his complex psyche. I wish they would have given Padmé even more of a role, and I felt like the narrator made her seem even more passive than I would have liked, but overall still a ?

Zahn is without a doubt one of the best Star Wars authors out there, and Thrawn is one of the best non-movie characters in Star Wars, but he missed the mark with this one. An unsatisfying follow up to “Thrawn”, “Thrawn: Alliances” lacks focus and I found the multi-time period storytelling to be jarring. I wish he had explored the unknown regions and Thrawn‘s loyalties more than linking the actions of present to the sins of the past.

Not quite as good as the previous book about Grand Admiral Thrawn but still an enjoyable read.

The MacGuffin isn‘t compelling & the past / present structure doesn‘t quite work but Thrawn is such a good character it overcomes these criticisms.

At Dragon Con, I got a chance to interview one of my favorite Star Wars authors, Timothy Zahn, for the Earth Station One podcast. I was very proud of myself for containing my fangirl squeal when Zahn said he wouldn‘t mind seeing Benedict Cumberbatch play a live action version of Thrawn. 😆 ha ha https://esopodcast.com/star-wars-legends-eso-network-chats-with-author-timothy-z...

Another fun Star Wars adventure from Timothy Zahn! This one involves a team up with Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader, with flashbacks to a time Thrawn and then-Jedi Anakin Skywalker also teamed up. I loved the banter between these two characters.

I have mixed thoughts about this novel. Thrawn is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction and I enjoy every page that he is in.
But, I feel that this novel is a mixed bag. There are parts from the larger #StarWars canon that have no place being in a Thrawn story. Much of the novel features the titular character on the side while other less interesting people tell the story.
Overall, kind of meh. 6 out of 10.

Very fun book! Loved the contrast between the characters of Thrawn and Anakin/Darth Vader in the different threads of the story. The action takes place between movie episodes 3 and 4, and before Thrawn is sucked into the vortex in the last episode of Rebels. Thrawn will surely be back - I'd love to see him make it to the big screen. Of all the Star Wars novels and stories, I think Zahn's are the best written. Highly recommended for fans.
