I absolutely loved this book! It's technically a young adults book but I didn't care. This was such a creative, steampunk, Halloween kind of love story. I just adored it! The characters are extremely likable, relatable and well developed.
I would recommend this book to anyone!
📖📚 Happy Reading! 📚📖
finally finished this book, it was really good, which is not surprising as it is by my favorite author, I definitely could have finished it in 24 hours if I wasn‘t so busy lol I often forget how much I love reading since I am so busy and stressed now a days but I am glad when I get reminded, hopefully I can make more time to read in the future 🙂📚
An interesting ya fantasy with cool world building and witches. The definitely chose this book because of the cover, which is awesome.
Peter Pan meets Halloween in this utterly charming retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Jack & Ember were adorable together, the perfect amount of sweet & spunky. I found the voice to be quaint, in an old-fashioned fairytale-telling sort of way. But, the end wraps everything up *much* too neatly for all high-stakes, bloody adventuring before. Still, if you‘re into sweet, fun, slightly creepy fairytales, this is for you. First of #2019! ★★★½
#currentlyreading | starting off #2019 with creepy ghost story vibes, apparently.
...no, wait, that actually tracks 😂 #yalitsy
Love the cover of this ... skulls are my jam! 💀 💀 💀
I loved the beginning of this book and hoped it would continue with a dark fairy tale like vibe, but I think my own expectations of where I wanted this to go got in the way of me loving it. I can tell the author is a logophile which was awesome and the story was imaginative and inventive. I felt some of the characters stories were hastily tied up and didn‘t care for the ending. The epilogue was a cute nod to all that is Halloween within the book.
Some of the romance elements weren't to my taste but there was a lot here to like....simple fun and enjoyed the world building and steam punk nods.
Halfway point for #13in3 after a late start.... Should hopefully make it if I do minimum ironing and maximum reading tonight 😁📖

Next on my TBR and just in time for Halloween is The Lantern‘s Ember by Colleen Houck. It‘s a loose retelling of the legend of Headless Horseman with steampunk elements. It sounds and looks amazing! #thelanternsember #YAfantasy #BookishHalloween
Really liking this so far..... But not one to read on an empty stomach (I'll pass on pigeon pie though thanks!) #currentlyreading
Perfect Halloween read - getting stuck in as soon as I get done with work 👻📖👍
I don't even understand what just happened. Creepy Sleepy Hollow? More like Steampunk Halloweentown. No plot, no character building, WAY too much "I love her, but so does he" drama. I will give points for world building though. As crazy as it was, the world was incredible....just not what I expected. Much more MG than YA as well. An ok read if you're looking for something you don't have to pay much attention to. ?♀️
Hello my pretty 🙋
3 days late but I did get a month Prime extension free to compensate... ❤️ #bookmail on a Sunday

Squeee! My #edbookfest membership card arrived the other day. 😍 I‘m now officially a Friend of the Festival and I love to be able to support my favourite literature event in this way. ❤️ Already looking forward to the 2019 programme (so let the waiting begin 😂).
Bought this last night completely for the cover haha turns out, it‘s exactly the type of Halloween book I‘ve been looking for lately 🖤
1. Stupid work means lots of coffee!
2. 6 I think....maybe 7?
3. Yup. Had my heat on for about a week or two already
4. I do
5. Started this one last weekend and I'm really struggling with it. Might be my mood, might be the vampire/werewolf airship pirates I was REALLY not expecting to show up in my book. Who knows? 🤔

This was between a pick and a so so. Overall, cute and original. It's not winning any points for character development, but it's a very unique spin! The love triangle (come on people-y'all knew Finney wasn't going to win) took over the entire story so that the plot became weak. I want to see and know more about this world and I'm tired of hearing about how curvy Ember is. So, read it if you want a fluffy fun Halloween story.
This is my TBR for the rest of October. Well, after I‘ve finished the two books I‘m currently reading. Any favourites of yours? 😊🎃
Does anyone think this would make a great anime? It's a little cheesy with the love square so far but cute and enjoyable. Granted, I am only half way through.
Keep an eye on your emails if you participated in #YASH this round! Winners are being posted. I didnt get a big prize but out of all the books there were two I really wanted and I GOT THEM BOTH!!! Sooo excited! The wait for the mail will kill me 😬

This little girl is happy I'm home sick today. I'm hoping this very Halloweeny book gets me out of my bad reading slump.
#Bookmail is the best mail. Don‘t these look perfect for October? 😍
Always a fan of Houck, and this one didn't fail me. I loved the Halloween elements! Every part of it was so inventive, with plenty of twists and turns to keep me interested! I was able to find a bit of myself in Ember, which made the story that much easier to fall into. Jack was an amazing character!
A love rectangle, kinda paranormal, but overall this book fell flat for me. I wish it had kept building upon the lore the author used as a backdrop instead of constantly focusing on who Ember would fall in love with.
Current #kindle read. Really liking this retelling of Spooky Hallow. I've never read Colleen Houck before but her writing is really good. #kindlesofitsy
This was a very cute story that made my Halloween-loving heart happy. I found it very different from Colleen‘s other books, although it shares excellent world building. The steampunk tie-in was super fun, as were the references to traditional Halloween symbols and monsters.
The romance was innocent and sweet. This book is definitely appropriate for younger audiences of voracious readers. I fell for Ember and Jack, and I think you will, too.
🎃 5 stars 🎃
The Lantern's Ember by Colleen Houck is a standalone YA fantasy novel that will get you in the mood for October and Halloween! A quick and easy read, The Lantern's Ember is more fantasy, fairy-tale like than scary or spooky. It also has a love quadrangle amongst Ember and the three suitors vying for her affection.
I would recommend. 🎃❤️

We had to travel to San Antonio for my medically retired Navy son to be seen for a checkup at Fort Sam Houston. We decided to make it a whole weekend and my husband and son wanted to go to Six Flags. Since I‘ve gotten older, I find I get a little bit sick on these rides so I brought a book to read all day. Nerd much? Lol
Happy release day! I preordered this book back in February. Colleen is one of my favorite authors... she paints such a vivid picture in her books. I can‘t wait to dive into this Halloween read. 🎃
Hello, lovelies! How is Sunday treating you? 😄 I cannot believe this weekend is almost over. It was just too busy but I can‘t wait to start this beauty today! It releases this Tuesday and sounds like the perfect Halloween read. 🎃 Devils and monsters and beasts oh my! 😁

Colleen Houck always runs fun contests for her book launches. She has a “Dress this book” challenge on her blog for The Lantern‘s Ember.
I created this one in a gothic elegance motif. I love the shoes and the blood drip nails the most!
Colleen Houck always runs fun contests for her book launches. Often, she has “Dress this book” challenges. This was my recent creation, player by off the firefly glow on the cover. How fun would this outfit be for a night out?
In other news, cannot wait for this release!
A bold and ghostly stand-alone from New York Times bestselling author; Colleen Houck, breathes new life into classic folklore in this wild, twisting adventure propelled by the spirit of Halloween.
This cover is gorgeous. I want it so bad. And based on her other books it will be amazing in real life.

This book will definitely put you in the mood for Halloween! It‘s very atmospheric. A little bit of steampunk with magic. Ember is a strong female character, that knows what she wants and is definitely stubborn. There was a twist at the end that I didn‘t see coming! I loved the ending of this book. While reading this, you‘ll see a lot of different nods to spooky legends and characters, like Sleepy Hollow and Frankenstein.
