so-soJoan of Arc meets Grishaverse in this debut! Premise, world-building, & characters of this book were fun. The conflict melds religion & politics, which I enjoyed, though the plot meandered. But, I‘m over romances where the girl whose “skin crawls” when someone touches her is suddenly craving it later. Friends, let‘s not confuse skin-crawling with desire. Still, it looks like things might be different in the next book. We‘ll see! ★★★☆☆. #yalitsy

I picked up The Wicked King only to realize I couldn‘t remember a single sentence of what happened in its predecessor. If only there was a quick, well-written summary I could‘ve perused!
